Hara got a nice voice, but she can't hit high notes. It's very embarrassing that she actually sang in front of Jea from BEG (she's like one of the best singer in S.Korea for me) and the guitarist almost laughed O_o
She also have a bad breath-control, and before a group is debuting they're supposed to learn these kind of stuff. No offense, but I think DSP only allowed her to be in Kara because of her looks and her decent dancing (I prefer Nicole's dancing skills better though).
You guys are talking but, after 5 years of training, after tears, efforts and training, she's still here, knowing that she can't sing, doing it knowing that thousands of people are gonna criticize and listen to her. She has faith and courage.

So for further clarification, you absolutely cannot compare an idol group like Kara to a true vocal talent singing group like Brown Eyed Soul (NOT to be confused with Brown Eyed Girls, another idol group)

Ailee basically blew every idol singer out of the water, and further increased the misunderstanding foreigners have about idol singers. But nonetheless, I think it's a good change. If idols want the credit and fame, I believe they should step up their little bit.

But well, Yoona rarely sings really live and she counldn't properly sing even very simple lines sometimes so yes, it's not like she's a great singer or anything. @Kikyo8820 yup you can check how yoona sounds live in mr removed the boys comeback stage.. :) compared to hara "kara - step" comeback mr removed.. yoona improved a lot. and i was dissapointed with hara after listen to mr removed. but i think step choreo had too much juggling choreo so hara barely able to sing the lines properly :(

In my opinion, I think that people are over-reacting at how bad Hara can sing. She managed to hit all the notes correctly and in my opinion she's an average singer at best. The only problem with her voice is that it is really weak and has very little power. Also, her song on the City Hunter OST doesn't prove that she has improved, I mean, she's never sung it live so who's to say that isn't all voice correction. I still love her though. ~
It's so very sad that out there are tons of people with talent and are working hard, hoping to have a chance to make it big when here we have people like hara who just have to rely on their looks to get into the industry.

Almost all of the visuals of the groups was chose for their looks and personally. Companies have large reserves of trainee candidates, and the only reason why they invest in training of someone who's lacks in singing and dancing talent is if they think these individuals can attract the attention of the public, doing well on variety shows, landing CF deals and stuff.and thereof increase the popularity of a group. Its is a tried and proven strategy in the idol market.

She is in an idol group, not a vocal group. Great voices tend to be few and far between in that business, "good enough" is the norm. She a mediocre singer at best, but a good dancer,having charisma, attracts public and is camera candy. Her face and personality is one of the main reasons why Kara sell well and well known (esp. in Japan). Seems to me to far more valuable for the group and company than just another "good enough" voice added in a dancing choir of average voices.
@21anis Hara had did an audition to get into Kara. The staff must of liked her passionate dancing to accept her in. In kpop groups there are usually people who are only good at one thing whether its singing or dancing. You find many groups with people like this. For your information...

DSP needs to get Hara a vocal trainer. This is ridiculous. She can't even hold a note and yet she's front and center for almost every routine. It doesn't make sense that everyone in KARA can sing except for her. She needs to hurry up and learn, because looks can only go so far.

Hara is a great entertainer and has a good personality to go with it. It's probably why she was picked to be in KARA.
She's exceptional in variety shows and a hell of a dancer, though I will admit that her singing here isn't up to scratch. It's not completely horrible, but definitely substandard for someone of her stature.
Explains why she's in a pop group and raps, not a solo artist.
Guys remember that pop music has a LOT to do with looks as well, and has been since the 70s.

This is a minor problem I have with Goo Hara. She debuted in 2008, so she's had 2-3 years to be able to work on her vocals right? I think she just needs to improve her vocals a bit more. Also, I mean just because she can rap well it doesn't excuse her to not sing well. There are many rappers in groups that can also sing well.

Training your voice could take years, whereas you could progress in dancing in a couple of months. In the entertainment industry vocals comes first. @beyondbrenda That's the trend in kpop idol groups: there will be singers, dancers and people who could do both. You will notice this fact if you pay attention to various groups. Unless they are a ballad group, vocals won't be a top priority for all members, just several of them.

PS. I wasn't making a generalization, I was pointing out facts that groups might have a member joined in as a visual. The visual makes the viewer notices them and make them more interested in the group. Hara fits as the visual role. But now she has risen her role as an ok singer

You can find one or more "Hara's" in just about every idol group out there, whether it male or female. Yes, the girl can barely sing, but then she was not put in the group because of her vocal talents in the first place. She can dance, and more importantly, her personality and looks have been highly marketable.

In my opinion, this is an old video and she got into DSP and Kara because of her talent in dancing, not so much on her singing. Also in every group, there will always be at least one person who is really lacking in singing but exceptionally at dancing, and hara is one of those who is poor at vocal but talented at dancing. So stop saying she got in Kara due to her looks, it's not. In addition to my opinion, she has improved her voice a lot, just try to listen to Kara whisper.

The pressure was enormous. Overall she did very well except for the high notes which if asked to do properly, I'm sure she can do that. You are all judges when it comes to a small error and decided on the death penalty. Even pros have endless NGs during recordings.
