  • raag bhairav

  • kamal hain ustad zakir hussain this is a very difficult peshkar

  • God of tabla!!

  • pure genius.

  • What's a lehera?

  • Best left hand in the biz, no doubt about it. Do not think I'm trying to take away from his dayan playing. No way. He's great on that, as well, but his left is truly amazing. None of the other pros even come close.

  • @srguy Do you know how the bayan is played. The bayan which he played in this recording is very ordinary(not saying his bayan is not good). The real test comes when one playes a bayan in a kaida or peshkar where correct balance is required. These tricks are very easy and you can see many people in youtube who imitate this.

  • @TheMrTabla I hope I know how the bayan is played, since I play tablas. If you believe the bayan technique of Zakir, as heard here, is "ordinary," then you are either quite foolish, have an overblown opinion of your own playing, or both. If you have a video of yourself playing, online, please post it, here. I have seen and heard many, many online videos of tabla players, heard others in person, and Zakir is in a class by himself.

  • @srguy You must read carefully that i have written that bayan in "this recording only"(while playing drut teental variation this i didn't mention for which i apologize) is ordinary. But your comment that no one can come close to him is wrong and u can ask any knowledgeable person who doesn't fear of what he is saying in public may it be truth. He will say that the drut teental pat is ordinary which is good for listening and can enhance the artist's mood.

  • @TheMrTabla Oh, OK, so please list other tabla players, like Zakir, who have played with as many musicians, of all styles, and have been as honored, with awards and recognition from many, many musical societies and foundations, throughout their lives. Sorry, but as I see/hear it, he still is in a class by himself, and deservedly so.

  • @srguy My friend i am not questioning the genius of Zakirji. But from your comment it seems that one who has got the glamour surrounding him is the greatest( you have judged Zakirji more in this way than commenting about his playing) which is not true everytime. There are many musicains who didn't gain that much fame as some people but they may be playing better than the famed musicians. It can be a case even with Zakirji!!! Sorry if i said anything wrong but i felt the need to correct you.

  • Zakir Ji must have really really hard hands by now.

  • @shoho0809 Oh no...his hands are soft and delicate...i thought the same thing and was surprized when i shook his hand. He dances on the drums head.

  • i play many instruments ( hundred maybe ?) but my tablas are the hardest.I have had them 8-9 years and still can't do anything that sounds good to me lol

  • @moondog50002000 Ha ha, I thought it was too much for me, I been at it for five years! (Okay, it's been a year since I practiced everyday at home, b4 it was just go to the class and that's it). However, I can play with Kirtan/ Bhajan on stage, but nothing like a master yet. It takes many hours of practice and many years too.

  • Zakir is such an inspiration!! I am in love with how relaxed he appears

  • reallly!! the person whom i only admire

  • amazing to let me ears hear the beutifyl playing by the ustad. I've played tabla since i was 5..

  • can someone tell me the notes that the harmonium player is playing?

  • @cobrakai3275

I have played this lehra and found the notes to be SA, komal RE, komal GA, Shuddha MA, PA, komal DHA. komal NI. I am not sure which Raag it is.

  • That's not Teen Taal. That's AWESOME.

  • lol, what a noob intro...anyways thats not raag bhairav. maybe 12 note bhairavi, but sounds more exactly as bilaskhani todi, which is nevertheless thhat bhairavi. lol@behenkabhai

  • you know he gets bitches.

  • wow the Hendrix of TABLA right here!

  • Keya batt, wah, wah, wah .....!!! :D

  • hello chaps...

sorry to spoil the party...ur right, itz definitely not Bhairav, but it's not Bhairavi either u great apes...I believe it's actually Raag Bilaskhani Todi, which is a related raag.

Zakir saab is a phenomenon, he has created in the tabla a melodic musical instrument.

I am the greatest of all u apes.

    D x

  • world best tabla player..

  • unbelievable, even the bass drum (baya, i think) is in tune with the harmony notes. Unbelievable music, those are extremely fast hands...

  • beautiful play

  • she said it backwards...haha

  • It's Bhairavi, not Bhairav

  • the "I" is silent so they took it away

  • there's no silents in Indian languages you idiot we don't use the Roman Alphabet.

  • It is not Bhairavi listen to it properly.

  • the lady said bhairav not bhairavi.... smart one, and u tell us to listen

  • I was saying to all those people who said it was Bhairavi...

  • oooo ok.. sry

  • im in love wit this video and amazed by his skills .. WOW

  • Unnatti Manikeri kya baat hai! Abs novice intro: "...Zakir Hussain on the raag bhairav on the tabla, teental and the lehera". Jeez! Didn't know Zakir could play raag bhairav on the tabla, teentaal and the lehera all at once. LOL!!! :-)

  • if anyone can do it, it's him :)

  • Yep! Listen to the baya (bass drum) of the tabla in the first part where Zakir-ji mimics the notes of the lehra. BTW. The lehra is not in Bhairav, but BhairavI. There is a big difference between both ragas. Still, the intro I found very funny. :-) "Zakir on the raga bhairav on the tabla, tintal, and the lehra" lol lol

  • omg!!!! thats exactly wut i thought as soon as i saw it!!! i was telling my brther and he showed me ur comment!!!! lol!!!!

  • @behenkabhai LOOOL!

  • Zakir bhai, great

  • you must be blind and deaf m8t

  • Well, then you must know nothing about indian classical music

  • it looks like u don't because clearly that is not Ustad Aashish Khan on the harmonium.

  • what does she say, is the name of the raag???

this is so OMG - can´t find the right words for what Zakir´s playing!!!

  • She says that the Lehra (Nagma) is in Raag Bhairav

  • @IMNxJRSP5G This is not raag Bhairav this is Raag Kausi Kanara

  • @Balraj50 Is this the same Raag as Kaushi Kannada? I found this Raag to have Shuddha RE.

  • @klacsanzky77 Actaully it is Raag Bilakshani Todi. This raag is simar to Mishra Bhairavi.

  • excellent! thanx for putting it up.

  • what grooving feeling! fantastic!
