@askcaptainscott Come on guy, it's funny. She's a cutie and the CFI says "Shove it in"? You HAD to know it was going to garner that kind of attention. Just nod and if YOU are the CFI, grin and say "OK boys, you got me" and laugh it off. At the end of the day, the rest of us are jealous.
"you'll start feeling, just make sure you're feet come all the way down and shove it all the way in." 0:08 seconds in.. lol I'm sure that guy didn't mean anything by it ;)
@Ghost31096 I'm using an independent audio recording system. One mike goes to each headset and one is a direct line in for ATC and intercom. It took a while to get the audio figured out.
She did a great job at maintaining that centerline for a first-time student. Nose moved slightly leftwards owing to the normal turning tendencies, but it did not seem to be a problem.
@scottt923 Hey man. I'm also 15 and I just started flight training. I already have two hours. I know it's not a lot, but like you said, it's expensive. Just take it slow. At least where I live, you have to be 17 to get your PPL anyway so there are still 2 years to rack up those hours. Good luck. :)
if you people are interested in ppl,,,google askcaptainscott and look at all the vids,,will give you a great overview of what flight training is all about,,with a good instructor

@homer30009 Ya, years ago it was a grass field. When you'd approach from the east you got a lot closer to the house up on the hill. I dont know when they paved it as I was out of general aviation for several years.
@askcaptainscott hahahaha cheap shameless plug! I love it. We have proven today we click/vote with the smaller of the brains. Hey we're pilots, they're only human.
@prowler505 Thank you for your constructive criticism. Should I have told her to push forward? Should I have said rotate? Please clarify. Please include your ratings, total flight time and 747 PIC jet time. The viewers need this information to validate your comment based on your qualifications. Again thank you for taking your time to post
@askcaptainscott Make sure prowler uses real flying time and not his FSX 747-400 time..Very nice video by the way, i'm doing my Commercial and gearing for the CFI and this video is a great aid to learn how to train new students!
@askcaptainscott Based upon prowler505's activity feed when clicking on his name, he is the epitome of a poser, a want-to-be, and someone that has probably never taken a single hour of instruction. If prowler has tried to get a pilot's license, I wonder how many CFI's the person has gone through because I'd never want a student like that (If I were a CFI) I have 120 hrs (115 in a C172 and about 10 hours towards my instrument) so I'm not arm-chair QB-ing this. I had a great CFI.
hello captainscott... I am 29 and I always wanted to be a Pilot since my teenage. But unfortunate circumstances like 9/11 never let me achieve my goal that time and I took another career option at that time. I still think about being a Pilot everyday... Do you think its too late to start?

@msvisio Unfortunately instructor pay I think is around $15 dollars per hour. It takes about three years instructing to get the flight time needed to work for the regionals. It took me twenty years to get into the 747. The rich wife idea works best.
@msvisio why don't you keep your day job and start part time weekends and evenings to see if you like it or can build a client base ..most cfi's are building hrs to ward the ratings to further their careers..few get rich doing flight training
@ted850760 - i actually am just starting. I have not reached instructor phase yet... I am only a student myself.. but part time idea is great if the school permits it... I will explore it! thx for the tip
@msvisio No! It's not too late to fly as a career. I'm a career A&P who's had a commercial/instrument for many years, though I rarely fly. However, due to large recent raises I have gone back to instruction, am getting current, and then plan on attaining my twin and CFII. I love working on planes, but want to fly. At 44 I have many opportunities with becoming an instructor. There's always a high demnd for CFIs who aren't just stepping toward the airlines or corporations.
@ProChoiceJesus - thanks for your advice! really appreciated! My ultimate aim would be to work for an airline one day and would prefer to work in growth market e.g. China, India etc. My only concern is if i some how arrange my fees for CPL and instructor license then I just need a decent job until one day I get into some airline (now this sounds easy but I will have to leave my full time white collar job for CPL!)
Must be nice to have someone like Scott.... Trust me I have gone through ATP with several different instructors each have their own style the one I hate most is the... do what I say or I will punch you in the throat instructor yes I did have that experience at ATP.... but the calm cool collected instructors who understand you havent been flying for years and can relate to the queezies when going through thermals and clouds for the first time... and Scott sounds like an awesome instructor!
@Herculese182 Man, break one of his fingers. I bet he'll stop messing with you pretty quick. Thats the wrong way to teach anything...pm me his name. Aviation is a small world. What comes around goes around.....
@askcaptainscott the landing in this vid was smooth as a babies bottom lol chirp chirp chirp.... wait til she gets to fly a low wing aircraft thats when the fun begins so far its the only plane I have had a hard landing in...
@askcaptainscott My CFI told me yesterday that at his flight school in Texas there was an old guy that carried a ruler and was liable to pop your hands if you forget to throttle back or gripped the yoke to hard. As stressed as I already was with trying to fly in the choppy weather we had yesterday, I don't think I could've dealt with anybody popping me on top of that :)
@askcaptainscott "a museum piece"? I doubt that..I guess it is my Montreal mentality us older guys ( I am 46) here in the city have an advantage over the younger guys, french women prefer us 'older-ish' dudes ;-) ..one benefit of being older lol.at least here anyway
@rhymeandreasoning Ok I'm moving to Montreal. I hear what your saying about french women. There is a story about a french girl that, well, she was talented, I'll leave it that that.
You're a great instructor Scott. Your voice is reassuring. I had my first flight lesson yesterday and I got an Instructor that kinda teaches the way you do. I lucked out. Can't wait to get back up!
@askcaptainscott: Is there any difference in cost or difficulty between low wing (Beech, Piper, Mooney, etc.) vs. high wing aircraft (Cessna)? I know that attention is either forward or on instruments, but do they fly differently? Are low wing planes more difficult to land?
@bartofilms The Mooneys are a fast airplane, the big thing with these is to make sure you slow down before getting in the traffic pattern. As for cost, the faster it is the more expensive, and as for landing a high wing vs low wing, there are minor differences but nothing that you wouldn't figure out in a short period of time.
Video brings back good memories...Interested in aircraft? download my "Aircraft Guide" to light civil aircraft APP for Iphones and smartphones. Ful colour photos, specifications on huge number of types. I have even researched unit costs. Check out Itunes or Android. Author: DalyArcade / Dermot Daly.
Looks like a great lesson! Student responds to the calm, clear directions of the instructor. Well made video with the 3 cameras...Going to bring this to the next lesson. Thanks
@askcaptainscott I have always wanted to learn to fly, but I am an insulin dependent diabetic. Is there any way I can make this happen or am I permanently grounded?
@abzversion3 You win the originality award. Ok you're the 280th guy to say the same thing. I'm leaving it up so I dont get another 280 guys saying the same thing.
@aky19832001 The video's are on there way. Seattle weather's to crappy and windy for her to fly. She's getting ready to start the cross country stuff. So stby. There will be more.
@shaindaman13 Don't waste your time with the light sport stuff (unless you might have a problem getting the medical) All the sport license does is give you a taste of aviation and then limit everything you are allowed to do. Get your private license, it can be done easily in 6 months and a lot faster with a little work.

Are low wing planes more difficult to land?
bartofilms 1 month ago

@askcaptainscott I have always wanted to learn to fly, but I am an insulin dependent diabetic. Is there any way I can make this happen or am I permanently grounded?

I'm 39 years old. I want to earn my Pilot's license for my 40th birthday. How long does it take to become a certified Light aircraft Pilot in the US?
shaindaman13 1 month ago
@shaindaman13 Don't waste your time with the light sport stuff (unless you might have a problem getting the medical) All the sport license does is give you a taste of aviation and then limit everything you are allowed to do. Get your private license, it can be done easily in 6 months and a lot faster with a little work.
