yep... just i suspected, didnt work. FUCK this OS, every single thing ive tried to do on it doesnt work. is it just me or is this os completely fucking useless? i cant even install compiz, what a fucking load of shit. no wonder its free. tried this on 11.04, having to many problems with it, will give it another try after i downgrade to 10.04, thanks for the vid, ill give it a go on my other laptop running 9.10 see if that works any better, so far having nothing but trouble with ubuntu.
@kuzeth Dude calm down linux is amazing if you know what your doing. 11.04 is brand new i admit i hate 11.04 but i love 10.04 so just calm down lol tell me if you got it to work if not ill post a very detailed video.
@xXGhostChuyXx Check if you're getting an error on your themes screen. Something with GTK? Not sure... but there is another version that it is out already. I'm running 10.10 now and I installed Macbuntu which cuts down on editing a Mac logo and adding a dock, it installs everything for you. Do the same, extract it and run the terminal script, just google Macbuntu and download it from sourceforge, net
@PC4LinuxFreak : there new step in 10.10..before selecting *******.sh file.we need to right click on this .sh file and in permission tab give access.than all is smooth..
@TheUbuntuUser101 Google "Apple Logo png" and make sure it is a png with a white background. Make sure your downloads go your Download Folder or you have it to where it downloads to your desktop. Hope that helps.
@CravedTutorials you can uninstall the Cairo Dock the same way you installed it. Go to Ubuntu Software Center and type Cairo selected uninstall. Then head to your desktop and on the top menu bar right click and select add panel. Right click on the new panel and select properties, head over to position it to the bottom. Right click the panel again and select add to panel. Scroll till you see an option to add switching windows, this will add the option to select windows once they are minimized
@vanilkachill Thanks for the sub bud! And yeah! Mint is a derivative of Ubuntu so ALL Ubuntu software works with it too. I tried it, but just felt like I was cheating on Ubuntu haha.
definitely best tutorial i've found for mac4lin. I don't understand why others upload videos stating you gotta go to terminal type this and that rather than doing what you just did with the sh file you explained. Very thorough and resourceful. Thank you for your help. I was struggling all week and looking all over the net trying to find how to make my beast look like a mac :D. Quick question though, how do I change my boot up and login to the one of a mac?
@SpartanCarlimus There is a way to install a login splash screen that looks similar to Mac's. Just google it and you should find links on it. You might want to install "Art Manager" in order to control your theme. From there you can active your splash screens with a single click.
copying the mac GUI only makes ubuntu look inferior, which it isnt. i could understand this pre-9.10 but now its kind of silly, ubuntu looks really good on its own..go to gnome-look, theres plenty of themes that dont go for that "ghetto mac" look. have some pride in using linux : P
Mac4Lin was created to run on 9.04 (jaunty), even in karmic theres a lot of crap to tweak to make it look right...imo, its just too much work for an incomplete mac look.
@gofudgeyourselfx I appreciate your opinion, the video was intended for those who actually want to do this. What's fun about linux is that you can do whatever you want with it. It's free in every way and people should enjoy it that way.
@PC4LinuxFreak I went through the whole tutorial, but i have a question regarding the cursor. even after the restart, the black mac4lin cursor only works once i move it onto say a firefox window and not on the desktop or other system folders. was wondering if you have any idea of how to remedy this?
@Mobius1ac yeah experienced the same, for some reason it keeps going back to the default. I still need to look into that. Maybe is the way the cursor was packaged. Finding an alternative version online might work a little better.
@xellink the mouse is the only problem, it works with some windows/programs and at times it goes back to the original Ubuntu one. I'm not sure exactly why that is.
by any chance are you using emerald? See, Linux is good even without emerald. Compiz is good enough. Having compiz without emerald will solve your problem. =)
another workaround is to edit "/etc/sysconfig/windowmanager", and replace the X_MOUSE_CURSOR= value to your preferred mouse theme (The theme should be in your /usr/share/icons folder).
@Mobius1ac Pretty sure it has something to do with compiz fusion if you have it installed. This might help: ubuntuforums . org/showthread.php?t=284915&highlight=mouse+cursor+theme+gdm
Yeah, I know it says 'Howto customize your GDM mouse cursor', but basically what it does is change your default cursor to the Human cursor. Change the index.theme file to reflect the location of your Mac4lin cursor and it should work fine for this though.
@ GlobalGameNL GIMP is a Photoshop alternative and yeah, you can resize the icon. But the largest you can go will be 96 x 96 pixels. What do you mean you can't find one? An Apple logo?
