I had a job getting hold of a hock of ham in the UK...my butcher told me it's become "trendy" and as such the prices have gone through the roof and he won't stock them.
I did manage to find one in Waitrose for approx £3.00 and sort of followed your recipe except for different spices and I blitzed my veg with a blender to make a creamy broth before adding the ham back.
Then I found a pre-roast hock in Asda for £2 and that also worked well.
Glad you like the soup! The good thing about it is that you don't need a gigantic ham hock such as the one I used, a little goes a long way. I much prefer the UK ham than the 'smoked' ham in the US but I have got used to it. Thanks for your comments.
I think I shall have a go at making this.....it looks nice and warming on a winters day and I would say more than a soup....that could easily be a meal!
@stampingchaylina Thanks for your comments, btw I lost all sense of time making this video so I will have to work on making them a little shorter in the future :)
Looks delicious. Cant wait to try it.

Hello,
Just wanted to let you know that Morrison's supermarket fresh meat/ Butcher counter sells "Ham Hock = also known as Gammon Shank here in the UK.
I bought one today (March/ 4/2011) they are sold at £1:59 each, I weighed it, it was 2lb 7oz's.
Hope that may help you lessen your seach.
