This is a great performance by the Man. However, vocally, I believe Jim Reeves may have the number one place in my heart---and Im a devoted, faithful GOD fan.. and a Reeves fan.
If you want to hear a country version of Danny Boy that will give you goose bumps check out Johnny Cash with Jimmie Rodgers on you tube. It was either from The Johnny cash show or the Jimmie Rodgers show. Wish one of them had put it o a cd.
The Music is called the Londonderry Air and is much older than the lyrics only when sung is it called Danny Boy. The music was discovered by a Limavady lady who heard it at a fair
Correct me if I am wrong but the music is older than the lyrics so this should be called "The Derry Air" it was the lyrics when married to the tune became Danny Boy
No offense to the great Clapton, but if you want a brilliant guitar version of Danny Boy, go search Ted Greene's interpretation of it. It's here on Youtube.
@Sulfarose , it's a matter of taste...I searched Greene and I find it too....twisted. For this song, more simple is better. And that big drum, like a beating heart...just the accent it needed.
@Sulfarose Took your advice but, nay lad. To appreciate the beauty of this air it needs to be heard in its most basic form without any improvisation of any kind or its magic, its essence is lost amid a cacophony of wasted, muddled notes that detracts from its true sentiment. Thanks for the recommendation tho, nvr heard of Ted Greene til u suggested it.Thanx. Live long n prosper.
@KoRbO66 Yep, I totally understand what you mean about keeping it simplistic. I just comepletely fell in love with Greene's interpretation, and you notice something new about it every time you listen to it. As the top guy here also responded though (of course, which I left out in my previous comment) like all music, it's a matter of taste. Anyway, I'm glad you took some time to look into Ted. One of the most underrated (in my opinion :) ) and surprisingly "unknown" guitarists ever.
@KoRbO66 Oh, and by the way, there are absolutely no wasted notes in Greene's music, that's a fact :) And don't get me wrong, there's a reason I looked into this video in the first place. Clapton is indeed brilliant.
@Sulfarose 0-52, 2.00-2.37 n 3.37-finish totally unrecognizable as anything remotely like Danny Boy. if I listened to these segments alone I would never in a million years have guessed the name of the song being played was the classic Danny Boy n would have fought tooth n nail to prove it. No denying ole Teds brilliance on the guitar tho but as you have rightly pointed out my friend it's all a matter of taste and, alas, this is not to mine. We'll agree to differ on ths one. Live long n prosper
@MamaHonky Oh Girl, i did not mean that it's not good. This music it's so beautifull. I've just want to share with you another thing or version. Thank you and excuse my poor english.

@arlannoble
Danny Boy was done by Jim Reeves decades ago. To this day it is one of, if not my favorite vocal rendition.

@Miscipssa Oh boy, who doesn't love Elvis' voice. What's so special about this piece for me maybe, is that all I'm hearing is the music....no voice.
