Being in SE Texas, I won't worry about any goose down vests, and I will quite happily stick with my .40 caliber H&K P30. The extra energy of a .357 SIG would be, IMHO, velocity, recoil, and penetration well above what I need at home. I'm confident that Gold Dot or Guard Dog will get it done in my house...
given the near endless debate of .357 sig vs .40 S&W, it would be interesting to see a test of the Speer 165 gr Gold dot. your results seem to show higher velocities provide much better results, so not using the "short barrel" ammo (which is rated at lower speeds) would yield better results. As an owner of a .40 S&W weapon, debating a swap to a .357 sig barrel, it would be very interesting to compare that 165 grain round to the 125 gr .357 magnum test already posted in your collection. Skal.
@grantjones357 Completely agree. The only possible scenario is if the agent was shooting through 2 car doors prior to the bullet lodging 2 inches into flesh. More likely that the report is all out fabrication. Any hp round, even my low charge target rounds, will penetrate well beyond that.
Thanks for posting. This is what I carry in my G23. I read a report by the FBI of an officer involved shooting near Hazelton, PA where this same ammunition only penetrated 2 inches. The suspect was shot many, many times, and most wounds were only superficial.
The suspect was wearing a goose down vest and the bullets "clogged" and started to expand prematurely causing them to lose energy before they penetrated his body cavity. Something to keep in mind tactically. Thanks!
@BassmanSW That story about only penetrating 2" is misleading (and actually it was cited as 1").
If anything, clogged hollow points over penetrate. It's impossible for a hollow point to only penetrate 2" unless some type of intervening barrier is in the way, and it would have to be way more than a down jacket.
@BassmanSW Could be a defect in the rounds. low powder charge, moister in the powder, improper seating depth etc. Could have been an intermediate barrier or just one of those weird, how did that happen, things. Don't underestimate bone of ligaments ability to stop a bullet. Don't listen to these it's impossible guy's, in a gunfight anything is possible. Under most condition Gold Dot tend to perform well.
ur video should be longer, u should wait until the gel stops moving.

compare the black talon 9mm video with this one and the impact is very similar.

There is no better ammo for FBI test protocol than the Gold Dot...none!
2" penetration? That is certainly Bovine Excrement of the first order.

@myantispambox Thanks for the reply. Did you happen to see the autopsy X-rays from that incident?
