i have seen spk live in munich...so long ago... puhhh takes my breath away when i think how long ago...
greetings to all who are from this time... =)
was a nice concert...lustmord and test department was also there... like to get in a timemachine to get it back...this new kind of art in music...god bless the tubes..=)
ya I don't recall SPK saying anything about manifestos... I remember Skinny Puppy and TG and Cabaret talking about mission statements and so on... especially SP and TG hehe... but if SPK did too I missed it hehe
so if they changed their focus to different styles that doesn't surprise me at all
... and looking back on it now, even the early SPK was more a painful cry for attention than serious attempt at eutanasing the society. Sooner or later things change from the abrasive to something more comfortable. Revell did use the SPK name to his own extremes, resulting in this unexplainably Stock-Aitken-Waterman-esque, but I have to agree there is a subversive edge even to this drift away from their earlier, much beloved avantgarde phase.
I understand people being more aligned to "earlier phase" by any group... Early SPK is musically more primitive but more stimulating. This version is appealing in its own right but still there's the feeling of 'betrayal' - despite the fact people grow up and cannot play sheer metal their entire lives. It's tastier to see Revell and eventually 'SPK' progressing into decent growing old entity than one dimensional 'industrial' guerilla old prats banging that same early manifesto of theirs...
Too bad this is just a fragment of the promo video and quality (audio) is so poor. Other than that it's an awesome track!
All those narrow-minded poseurs who like industrial noise shit and think SPK has "mutated", don't seem to realize that to most people who like dance music, this track would be too alternative. Just because it's very danceable, doesn't mean there is something wrong with it, or with the vocals for that matter!
well, complaining about the change of SpK is like complaining about ministry's change to industrial metal (they 1st used to be synthpop, then..industrial)..
and i don't understand people who don't like this, if they like the older stuff... these two together... Is like uh....
I saw SPK with this line up over and over again in Sydney at the Hordern Pavillion. Karina and Sinan were amazing. The shows were not the old metal SPK but there was still a lot of hard core stuff going on. The shows were so diverse and those girls held theyre own. I think SPK just evolved into the times they were in
Karina Hayes sang on clip for movie Spirits of the Air Gremlins of the Clouds by Meaningful Eye Contact ... for Alex Proyas, The Crow, I Robot. Her voice is beautiful haunting and ethereal
Yes ... this could be considered blasphamy to die- hard hard -core ' cool ' folk ... but this was pretty good ' gay - bar ' house music for its time , and i mean that ... not a joke . And the flip-side of this album is killer .
I saw these guys live before Karina moved to france, At padington RSL in Sydney Australia, Copped a face full of grinding dust, and loved it. I remember the heat and smell of the place. Too cool.
Fuckin 'A' and 1981's 'Infomation overload unit' was a complete industrial headfuck! I think 'IOU' and 'Leichenschrei' are the only albums worth having from these.---Then they 'Sold out' and flopped.

Yes, they sadly "mutated" into this nonsense. Hard to imagine this is the SPK that gave us Slogun. Still we'll always have Leichenscrei and Information Overload Unit to remember how great they were...
Many bands mutated. TG was the smartest because they disbanded and than started as 2 (later 3 projects). PTV two first albums were experimental and noisy and than they went hyperdelic and acid. I still like what they were doing but for many ppl it was treason.
re;ash23neuro. ....And 'Caberet Voltaire' went all dancey.(crackdown, just fascination. etc.)But they were good at it. Not like this shit! As for TG,they were great, but why did they reform?
conoci spk por su gran aporte a la mùsica, no esperaba ver esto en su ultima etapa pero me agrada, aunque fue un cambio muy brusco de los spk que conocia.Pocos sabemos la importancia y valor de esta extraña banda SPK.
Actually the live version on SPK's Ocean live album/ CD from 1987 features Graeme Revell's deep brooding vocals singing lead, which transforms this catchy pop song into something darker!
thankyou for posting, haven't found many spk videos. Love SPK,and karina hayes' voice)

Ah a golden era. SPK ventured in a disco direction but they are forgiven.

How could you miss the SpK ''Dokuments''.
They had ideas. Most well known was the information overload and post-industrial strategy.

"Breathless" is hardly what I would call mainsteem dance music. This still has edge and an alternative twist to it. Some people are so narrow minded!

I think it's hilarious and cool that the most extreme and disturbing "band" mutated into this.
As far as clanging 80s E.B.M. pop goes it's OK - though some of the vocals are pretty iffy! very flat and off key.
To my ears "Auto Da Fe" (album) is the pinnacle collection of SPK.
EYEmusique 4 years ago 2
My personal favorite is "Leichenschrei"...awesome from the beginning to the end.
And yes it is very amusing how SPK mutated...

It sound like Bill Leebs Delerium sounds nowdays.
fedbymum 4 years ago
DELERIUM?! I got the Karma album, original. I think that was still with Kirsty Hawkshaw?
Please don't compare Hawkshaw's angelic "enlightening" [hint, hint] voice with that off-key yawling of that female "singer".
That would not be fair.
I hope only the sound quality is mediocre with this clip - maybe it's better on mp3.
