Drifting is not about horsepower at all. you could use a stock 240 with a 2way diff,coilovers, and other various suspension parts and you can drift. Horsepower does help but its not needed

Hp needs to be above normal, but the suspension, tires, drivetrain, and the weight make the vehicle driftable

the more hp you have the more you will have controll of your vehicle (to a point i suppose)

drifting is more often driving skill than it is horsepower. Of course there are instances where you will need a certain amount of horsepower based on your driving technique and skill. a 1 ton Race 240SX vs a 2.3 ton Mustang GT will need different amounts of power for different drivers. Since the 240SX is lighter, it will need less power than the hevier Mustang GT to maintain wide slip angles. J.R. Gitten's Mustang GT has upwards 700-800HP where Daijiro's old Rockstar S13 had 350-400.

not really? it depends on driving style, there isent that much smoke because the majority of courses for drifting in japan are very narrow and have alot of sharp corners. as where as you see, the americans make it easy for themselves wtih huge banks, much easier to go full throttle on.
