  • this is DEFINITELY 1983

  • who is that @ 6:35 w/ Cliff?

  • @comeonewtf The guy with the "Kill 'em All" Shirt? Yes he is.

  • @Clasico2350

No, who is it WITH cliff

  • @FadeToPuppets Geddy Lee?

  • @cubby3o5

    Cliff > life

  • @FadeToPuppets I mean the guy next to him looks kinda like Geddy Lee.

  • Is this the December 31st 1983 gig?

  • this song is so aggressive since the first second. i love it

  • haha kirk looks like such a noob at 2:00

  • This is definatly pre 86'

84' probably because in 83' he still didn't have his realy RtL voice yet.

  • this was recorded in 1983, im sure

  • those motherfuckers know how to chomp a guitar

  • This is 1983. Listen to the third verse. It's not the same as the album!

  • @ContraBoi No this is like 85 listen to james's voice. Alot deeper than 83. Either way early metallica is the best ever.

  • are you fucking dumb as fuck?

  • @bobjackson7 i did'nt post that comment, it was my friend; "Megalichking". he thought it was several years ago...

  • 1:57 lol u gotta laugh at that

  • actually this is late 83 early 84 this is a thrash metal show they put on anthrax and a few other thrash bands appeared. it was at the san francisco civic december 31st

  • it's propobly jersey. back in the old bride days. slayer, venom, anthrax, mercyful fate. they recorded the ride the lightning demo here. in jersey (new). fucking awsome!!! yea 83 I do believe.

  • If this is the 1983 San Fran live recording... that means this is the recording of the debut.

  • i can tell its 83, because the drums in the chorus sound like the album version, after RTL lars played the chorus differently

  • But it must be from 83, cause he called it a new song in the beginning. Probably really rare.

  • ok which is it 1983 or 1986. the info is dif from the title. ok if its 1983, who can they do it before the album. if its 1986, well good job lol

  • The song, along with The Call of Ktulu was actually on one of their early demos, 'cause Mustaine wrote parts of those two songs. They couldn't have just taken some of his riffs in '84 and used them for their own songs.

    I still bet it's from 86, though.

  • 5:53 up left cliff? down left kirk?

  • how did you get this

  • hmm what was happenin at the second verse

  • There is no official notes out there on the drumkit used in 1983! The Ludwig 1984 kit replaced it. Bazz Ward rebuild it for Lars and got a credit on Lightning thank you list. I know as I asked him.

The title track of Lightning were writen in 1983 and hell frezes over demo contains 4 tracks. The solo's were 90% close to what ended up on the album recorded 6 months later in 1984.

As for the 1983 kit being Imperialstar no close up shows any Zola coating!

  • Dude, this is not 1986. It's obviously 1983 or 84.

  • lol i think he missed some lyrics at the beginning of the second verse

  • Actually,I Hate To Make You Look Like A Jackass,

But I Was At This Show.So I Think I Would Know.

  • actually, i hate to make you look like a jackass, but you were not at this show, not in 86, because this show did not take place in 86. it was late 83 to early 84. in your info you say it was 86 but the title say 83. which one is it?

  • Actually I am Metallica so I think I would know.

  • @ScarU4life HAHA you owned him

  • @ScarU4life dang you been a Metallica fan all your life.... lucky

  • See..

    You Know Im Right.

Thats why you haven't said anything.

    Fuck Face.

  • This is from the early days. Dave's solos sounded like random notes to and he sucks at rhythms (like kirk late 90's). The only thing dave did with lightning is the rtl demo solo...

Btw, if you listen to lars' high hat, that isn't puppets drumsound. In the early days he didn't use zildjan high hats. The drumkit during kill 'em all for one tour, he used the tama imperialstar. During puppets he used tama superstar (sounds way deeper). That's the difference!! And you can hear that..

    Peace out!

  • Kirk wrote the RTL solo

Dave wrote some of the riffs in the song

  • My mistake, sorry, you're right!

  • that's all right!!

They're both awesome anyway - Kirk and Dave, Metallica and Megadeth

  • If the year is 1983 the drumkit brand is unknown officialy! and it is the one that was stolen in Boston january 1984. The Ludwig on Lightning is the replacement kit and bought in UK second hand. The Tama deal came with Qprime in the falll of 1984.

  • the year IS 83, they are borrowing anthrax's equipment and lars is using charlie benante's drum kit caus metallica's stuff got stolen back in boston, and that was december 83, not january 84.

  • and yeah lars is using Tama's HP35 Camco chain-drive pedals (which belongs to charlie benante) he's actually still using them to this very day.

  • @Docteur666 Actually, it says its from 1986.
