I beleive it can mean either - In this case, it could be that she mocks the poets who encourage war, or it could be that she mocks the worms that she lies among, seeing as she is buried with them.
@AshKAnderson As a native French speaker, I can guarantee you that Boris Vian would never make fun of poets. It is an anti-war hymn and his dead mother is laughing at the world....
@FuckThePolitics That was the first ending, the original one that Vian wrote. It was then edited after a friend of his suggested a more pacifist ending to suit the rest of the song.
Great song - TIME FOR THIS SONG IN AMERICAN ENGLISH!!!! Time for the freedem of all the innocent victims in Iraq, Myanmar (Burma), Guantanamo, Israel on both sides. Time to stop torture on earth (also in psychiatries) - Time to stop torture in Myanmar especially, but also in China, where they take organs out of living people (from Tibet e. g.) putting them to an artificial coma...Time to stop all this shit. What we Germans did with the Jews....was this not horrible enough for mankind???
Merci beaucoup, mon cher prof.
Dear friends, Did you know that the original lyrics of "le déserteur" are not the ones sung here or by other rekown versions of the song (Reggiani) and kindly translated by hs242: "If you go after me warn your police that I'll be unarmed and that they can shoot." Instead, the original words were (but were never recorded): "If you go after me warn your police that I own an arm and that I can shoot." The fear of censorship (10 years after the war) motivated Vian to make the change.

it would seem 6 people should go to the front for lack of culture...

"Vers" should not be translated by "worms" by but "lines" (of poetry) I believe

Funny, I heard there are different endings for this song, especially this kinda weird one:
"Si vous me poursuivez
Prevenez vos gendarmes
Que je porte des armes
Et que je sais tirer"
"If you go after me
Warn your police
That I own weapons
And that I know how to shoot"
Anyway, Boris Vian was such a genius, RIP :')

It's also the proof of the courage of Boris Vian - because by singing such lyrics, he took risks for his own life.
