  • can I plug my guitar into my amp, and then my amp to the micro br, so I can essentially use all the sounds and effects on my amp and then export those from my micro br to the comp?

  • @dreamtheater858 If you have a line level output on your amp, then yes, you can. If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to record your amp sound, then move those tracks to somewhere else. That's fine. Just be sure you use a line out. An effects send can be ok if it's line out level like going to a console. But NO SPEAKER OUTPUTS!

Keep in mind though that your amp sound without the speaker involved will sound very different. Maybe just use the MBR built in mic?

  • damn hes fuckin good

  • Phil.. That's one great demo of the BOSS MICRO BR... Have to get one now....

    Two Thumbs-up !!! LM

  • I love Phil Gates.

  • thats f**** awesome

  • This guy is such a legend!

  • Hey Phil, nice playing! Just a quick question, would it be possible to hook up and electronic drum kit to the Boss? Cheers :-)

  • cool guitarist

  • Hey Phil, how called effect in the 4th part of this video? I have a Micro BR, but this effect I can´t find.

    Thanks

  • this recorder seems really awesome but i dont know that much about reocorders, i want to record for my band just for practice and stuff would this be right for that.

  • The Boss micro BR can either record straight from your Guitar or microphone or electric drumkit, Or you can have u all in one room and just do it there through the microphone, so yeah, it is great for that!

  • okay thanks man!

  • could u post reply to my profile =]

  • hey phil gates i was just wondering if ur able to switch between effects in the micro br. Also is there any safe way to use an effects pedal on the micro br.

    james

  • can you hook effects pedals up to it i know it has effects but can u use ur own pedals plz post answer to my profile

  • I would say that I wouldn't hook anything but a guitar up to the guitar input. If you did this at your own risk, you'd have to be very careful with the input level. Too hot a signal could severely damage the unit. This would probably void the warranty as it's not designed for that, and therefore not covered.

Probably a better idea would be to get the level of all things to be hooked up before the MICRO BR to line level, then use the Line level input of the MICRO BR.

    Hope this helps.

    Phil

  • do you know a place where you can find custom effects and what not for this are what are you favorite settings what not

  • hey whats the best way to tweak the micro br im trying to get a good sound for crazy train but all the presets are horrible for tryin to get that sound like the lead guitar stuff is kinda of weak what do use at 1:08 any good setup ideas to get a really good lead sound?

  • Alright. Awesome vid, man. :)

I've been using the Micro BR for nearly two years now. My major concern is that the adapter (Boss PSA Adapter) seems to get burned way too easily. As soon as I use it for about 2 hours, it just burns out and I need to get another adapter.

  • Hi again, also would the Micro BR work great with the GT-10 for additional effects and recording?

  • can u make custom drum beats to play against?

  • Hi,

On the MICRO BR there are about 300 different drum patterns of many genres at your disposal.

You can string different patterns together using the Arrange function, to create drum patterns with intros, verses, choruses, fills, and endings.

However, it is not possible to create custom drum beats. This would be the BR-600 and up.

    Hope this helps.

    Phil

  • WTF at 1:00?

Does he think that's something cool?

Tap his hand to mute the sound?

    ...NAH!

  • sounds like your jelous

  • I actually am, he's a great guitarist.

  • Hi again! How do I connect my guitar and Micro Br to my amp like you in you video? Thanks.

  • Hi mdjy. Sorry to take so long to get back to you. What I did in in the video was to use a cable with a 1/8" Stereo connector(for the MICRO BR side) on one end, to two mono 1/4" on the other end(for the guitar amp side). Then either hooked one of those to a mono amp, or in this case to both channels of a Roland JC-120.

    Hope this helps.

    Phil

  • dat nigga can jammmm!!

  • One more thing please. Can I use the Micro Boss without using an amp? Thanks!

  • ya, its made for that, its basically just a pocket recorder that you would noramlly us headphones with, except it has everything, drum loops and tons of guitar amp models, effects, and presets.. so its great on the go or in a music class, all you need is headphones, and if you dont want to use the headphones it has a line out for a amp or speaker.. hope that helps!

  • Do you know if these products have a good heavy metal distortion in it?

  • yup they sure do! and tons of other stuff!

  • Hey jimmypage1stfan, Right on for your input! You're absolutely right. the MICRO BR has tons of great uses. Lately, I've been just putting it anywhere near my amp to capture song ideas as I rehearse, or I'll use it in MP3 mode- connect a line out from my mixer to the 1/8" stereo in, and select "LINE" as an input to record song ideas, with other source music, just to capture the idea. Then connect it USB to my computer to email them to band members. It's pretty cool!

    Hope this helps,

    Phil

  • Hi Phil! Are you using some kind of pedal or amp when yuo are playing or the sound belong to Micro BS with nothing else? Thanks!

  • Hey mjdy,

All the sounds are from the MICRO BR going into a Roland JC-120 amp. The amp is set clean, no chorus or distortion, all tone knobs at 12 o'clock.

    All the best,

    Phil

  • hey phil

this vid is amazing and it looks really good

i was just wondering what would be the effect is i have a wah pedal between my guitar and the micro br...

would it affect the br's activities and usefull ness?

  • Hey makeanamefoundation,

The in-line wah, would be essentially the same as one in front of a pedalboard. I would watch the input levels of the MICRO BR for overload as the pedal sweeps. It may help or hinder sonically though, but it'd be worth a try!

    All the best,

    Phil

  • Hey Phill,

    I've got a Question...

Q: could you tweak the drumguide just the way you like? like say you want the drums to stop after 6 bars and than begin with a fill in through 7th bar. And could you load in a home made drum pattern(An Mp3, like made in FL studio or something) and Record over it with the MicroBR

  • Ludasz,

On the MICRO BR, you absolutely can program the patterns to play just about anyway you like. Check out the chapter on the Rhythm guide, it explains the whole process.

And yes you can load .mp3 drum files into the audio side, then transfer them to the recording side of the MICRO BR to record with if you like. You can also import.wav files.

Keep in mind we have an amazing Product Support team at Roland and BOSS. 323.890.3700 7:30am-6:00pm (pacific)

    All the best,

    Phil

  • Hey Dude!

Thanks for the information! I have just ordered a micro br it should come in today!

    Grt.

    Luuk

  • Hey Oscar,

Sure you can! Although the MICRO BR has no

digital inputs, you can use the analog

outputs of your digital piano, and connnect them to the Line/Mic in jack. Use cables that

go from 1/8th inch stereo to whatever analog connectors are on your digital piano, and Rock on! when you choose teh input, select "Line" on the screen on the MICRO BR.

    All the best,

    Phil

  • phil, how's this different from korg pandora px5d. can i use it for bass and does it have a tuner? thanx

  • Hey luvmuziq,

Without wanting to get into a product debate here, one of the biggest differences, is that the MICRO BR has four track recording built in. The MICRO BR also has a built in MP3 recorder/player. Yes it has a tuner. The MICRO BR has a built in condenser mic to record, as well as guitar and line inputs.

I like the MICRO BR because by itself, I can have great guitar processing, effects, and can record songs anywhere, anytime, right in the unit.

    All the Best,

    Phil

  • yes you can use it for bass as well as guitar, keys, and vocals.

  • Hey Phil, you're a fantastic representative for such an incredible piece of technology! I have a question: is there any way to run the Micro BR and all of its sound effects through my main amplifier? The headphones thing is really getting to me in a negative way. Otherwise, I LOVE this thing. Thank you! -Rob

  • Hey Rob,

Thanks for the kind words. You can absolutely run the headphone out to an amplifier. Two things though:

The headphone out is a line level output, so make sure to not crank it too loud or it'll overdrive the input section of your amplifier.

The headphone out is stereo, so use an 1/8" stereo to dual 1/4" cable. Then you can use one cable for your amp input. Or run two amps in stereo for a truly big sound!!

    All the best,

    Phil

  • Also, you can always just use a 1/8" to dual RCA cable, and hook it up to a stereo or mixer as well as a stereo line input.

    Phil

  • Perfect! Thank you very much, I'm 100% satisfied with it now. -Rob

  • I have one of these, but i could barley hear the sound of my guitar and effects. the drums sound loud and normal. its been doing it for awhile now and i still havent figured it out. What is wrong with it? how do i fix it?

  • Hey freakguitargod,

There's a level on the right hand side of the MICRO BR for input level. I would double check that first,(make sure it's rolled up high enough) then if you have the guitar plugged straight into the 1/4" jack, make sure you have GTR selected for the input.

Verify those, and let me know what happens.

    All the best,

    Phil

  • awesome! thank you soo much! i dident even know that was there. everything is working fine now.

    you rock!

    thanks again. =D

  • great gear demo and performance phill!!

  • k thanks a lot for the help

  • ok but can you record through the sound of your own amp or do you have to use the guitar procesor on that? Like can you plug the guitar into it then plug into an amp.

  • You can use your amp. You can use the built in mic, which sounds really good, or use an external 2.5v electret mic (like for a mini disc recorder). In either of these two cases, you would just turn the effects off, and record using the mic to get your amp sound.

    All the best,

    Phil

  • how many full songs can you get on this. I know you get 4 tracks but is that 4 tracks per song or is each track like one song? And can you record through it with your own amp or do you have to use the settings on it?

  • Hey how are ya?

The full song question is about how long the song is, how many tracks, all of that stuff.

The way I look at it, is, I go for making the song, however many tracks, then use the USB port to back it up to my computer. This way I can choose to keep the song on the MICRO BR, or erase it if I need to with no worries.

You should always be backing up anyway. Cause in digital, if it's not in two places, it doesn't exist.

    All the best,

    Phil

  • OH MY GOD. You're a freaking good guitar player, congratulations!

You could also check out my video, where I also do some jamming with the micro br.

  • Phil you're the best !

  • Can you use the micro Br without using any effects? not even the clean effect.

Because when i use my pedals with the cube 60 clean channel it sounds great; but when i use the micro Br clean channel with my pedals, it sounds weird. Anyway what i wanted is to use the micro Br as a noise gate and compressor only, no clean effect from the microBr.

    Thanks in advance Phill :)

  • Hey Mario,

Sure, you can use the MICRO BR with no effects. If you press the effects button, you can then press TR1 to toggle the effects on or off. This bypasses all effects.

Try it that way and see what happens.

    All the best,

    Phil

  • Does the micro Br have noise gate and compressor?

I know that the Br-600 has got noise supressor and sustainer.

I'm not sure if i should buy the Br-600 or the micro Br.

  • Hi,

Yes the MICRO BR has both the Compressor and Noise Suppressor.

Either way it's going to rock. Heavily.

    Phil

  • we bought that boss micro br

sublime to record, a lot of rythms samples and click, very good to overwrite tracks, and the inner microphone is amazing.

but the LCD monitor is very little, and it does not help with the software, that is very complex.

    8.5 on 10

  • Thanks for picking up the MICRO BR! Let me know if you have any questions. You can drop me a line here, or call our Product Support. They're great. 323.890.3741

    Phil

  • phil, thanx for replying. one more question, can i use this for bass, not just for recording, but to jam.

  • Absolutely!

It'll rock the bass! You can use the effects for bass as well while you jam if you like.

    All the best.

    Phil

  • nice player.

  • phil is cool i saw him on that boss drum machine demo it was nice

  • the micro br is a wicked piece of kit, just got one for xmas, still getting to grips with it but the possibilitys are endless.

very well played in the vid.

  • such a clean player :-) that br will be perfect for me when it arrives

  • Love that lick you play between 20-26 seconds in. Sounds awesome! :)

  • love my BOSS gear, and Phil, you're a great player.
