  • how big engine is? 5.2 litres or bigger or smaller?

  • @kujala93 4.4L

  • Bizarre le XC 90 avec le même moteur ne fait pas un bruit aussi "évocateur" comme on dit.....

  • Awesome sound dude!

  • ---> Now I'm just waiting for the V10 version of the S80L 2013 <---

  • @VolvoEP I'd really love a V10 S80L!

  • @matthewdaniel1000 Just wait, It's coming!

  • @VolvoEP How do you know it's coming?

  • @matthewdaniel1000 Can't tell you...but it's coming 2013 or 2014.

  • @VolvoEP Well, I really hope it is true because Volvo needs to compete with other luxury car manufacturers....

  • @VolvoEP Are you employed by Volvo?

  • @matthewdaniel1000 I'll PM you!

  • @VolvoEP Okay, thanks.

  • It sounds German :)

  • I agree

  • Why does people here try to compare this thing with m3s, 3000GTs, Corvettes and so on? THIS ISN'T A PURE SPORTS CAR AND WAS NEVER MENT TO BE! If you want to compare it you need to look at other saloons with similar engines, prices and purpose. The Audi A6 4.2 FSI, the BMW 540i, the MB E500 and the Lexus GS 430 are comparable. All of them are more expensive than the volvo and produce around the same power from engines that are similar in size. You cannot compare an s80 to a fucking Corvette.

  • @JL3Wind you can compare it to volkswagen phaeton, way cheaper option than any you mentioned, and probably cheaper than the volvo too...

  • @EdwardSinclair Yes of course, forgot about that one somehow. The phaeton is an excellent car and you can find them for bargain prices!

  • @JL3Wind my Ferrari is way louder than this

  • Which system is it? :)

  • @MackQuack volvo's eau naturelle 4.4 v8, i imagine

  • Wich system is it? :)

  • i agree

  • in England, Noble cars put this engine in a car that does 220 mph.....

  • This car sounds amazing for a Volvo! thumbs up if you agree :)

  • Is this the 4.2 engine from the 06 Jaguar XK? It sound so similar to it.

  • it's just a V8 :)

  • volvo power!

  • @Lakerolmannen

    Yamaha power ;)

  • @Lakerolmannen

    Yamaha power ;)

  • @sskkiiddmmaarrkkss Yamaha ? Motorn är ett samarbete mellan Volvo och Yamaha.. Japanarna hjälpte Volvo att få motorn så kompakt som möjligt , motorn är fortfarande Volvo rakt igenom...

  • This sounds much better! htt p://ww w.youtube.com/watch?v=zJ3SkB-vOK0&feature=related

  • watch?v=Ap_XolJpm2k

If you serioysly think this is fast, you must be driving a corolla or some shit. Its STRUGGLING to even hit 200kmh..

  • @Grodinz

Grozinz I would say, if I had the money for a true powerhouse car, it'd have to be an AMG CLS.

Theres something about these monster mercs i just love.

  • love you way the exhausts erected every time its revved :)

  • what a great growl

  • @Gachiic

lol sounds nothing like a REAL v8...

lets see some vette exhaust vids...

  • @Grodinz

You want to compare a VOLVO SEDAN to a corvette? You must be as smart as a rock.

  • You must be as smart as a rock thinking that cars chassis has actually anything to do with exhaust or engine...

And FYI, same engine used in vettes have been pretty much used in all kinds of cars... suvs, trucks, sedans, wagons...

  • And what exactly does a "Real V8" sound like, douchebag. The Vette isnt that loud STOCK! You could put exhausts on this Volvo, and the Vette and make either of them loud. HELL Ive heard a MEAN sounding Hyundai Genesis. So before you go a pitch all this crap about the "real V8" and compare a SPORTS CAR like the Vette, to an amazing luxury car such as the VOLVO S80, maybe you should just use that little filter between your brain and fingers! Dumbass.

  • Oh and... VOLVO 4 Life Bitches!

  • @NewDJKStew

lol @ volvos. I guess people who think hyundais are badass drive slowass boxes like this.

  • @Grodinz you think Volvos are actually slow? even just a S70 T5 is faster than '94-'04 Mustang GT's. it wont take it from a dead stop right away... but once it gets into the higher end.. its gone

  • @person3213

Yes. Volvos are slow as fck. Beating an old stang is nothing to be proud of, they are slowest american sportscars ever made.

  • @Grodinz i dont take it that you have actually owned/driven one.

  • @person3213

Volvo or a mustang? Sure, ive driven both, didnt buy either, i ended up with something actually quick.

  • @Grodinz what Volvo did you drive?

  • @person3213

S80 T6, S60R and 4.4 V8 S80, both S80 were obnoxiously slow due to horrible gearing on the automatic, S60R was sharpest of them but still lacked some punch.

  • @Grodinz the S80's just sound nice :P family car. S60R's have alot of punch in my opinion... i would take a new S60R over a new M3. S60's are a little faster

  • @person3213

V8 volvos take ages to accelerate from 100-200, around 17 seconds so thats about it for "once it gets into the higher end".

Fyi, most sports cars even from the 90s do it in less than 13 seconds. M3, M5, vettes, camaros, firebirds, 3000GT etc etc etc.

  • @Grodinz look at the price difference, and it is 0-100 that counts tard

  • @Grodinz

Volvo's slow as fuck? lol....... literally every model has a "T" or "R" version that goes to 155mph.

Slow comared to porchse maybe... but not compared to audi or bmw.

  • @fentonjd

Eh, both audi and BMW make cars that have DOUBLE the amount of horsepower... so, compared to them, volvos are not slow, they are standing still...

Sure, slowass T6 etc might feel quick if you are used to driving corollas...

.. But if you are used to driving sports cars, or powerful saloons, no.

  • The S60R was just as fast as the M3 from the same year????

    0-60 5.5's 155mph limited top speed.

Fastest BMW money can buy only hits 60 in 4.5's... hardly 'standing still' is it?

  • @fentonjd

Uh, every decent sports car does 0-100 in under 5 seconds, you cant base anything on it, and M3 is not even nearly the most powerful one.

Go race some GTIs or type-R hondas with you S60, its a freaking econobox with oversized engine, nothing more.

As for the power, i wouldnt really jack off to 300 horses, top model BMWs, audis and MBs have 600...

  • @fentonjd

And yes, pretty much standing still, S60R does quarter in loysy 14.2s, this is what all the other GTI slowboats do also, even cheap pushrod sportcars from 90s do low 13s ... .. and 0-200 takes well over 20 seconds..

Just because it does 0-100 in the same time as any other decent car and is limited to 155 like any other decent car, doesnt mean its fast on any scale.

Sure its a nice car, very comfy, but please, for the love of god, stop pretending its a freaking race car.

  • @Grodinz

Its a fucking V8 volvo S80! People don't expect that shit thats the whole point.

If I want a fast car I'll buy a Veyron.

This car is cool, it's an elegant looking car with a nice V8, different from the usual 5 pot volvo turbo engines used for the last 15 years.

If you call a 315bhp V8 & 2.5 Turbo 300bhp volvo's "econoboxes" then fuck knows what your fuel bill must be each month.

  • @fentonjd hmm... just 315bhp from a 4.4 v8 is a shame... plus poor fuel economy

  • @leodevil240mph

How is that a shame??? It produces MORE horsepower than it's gross amount of cubic inches you damned fool! That engine is at least reaching some of its full potential. Most American V8s produce WAY under their gross amount of cubic inches, and they get shitty mileage!

  • @Sarcasticscum americans already suck at making cars and engines... with whom are u comparing them with?.. the swedish manufactureres?. anyways let me tell you that thsi is the most powerful engine volvo has for its cars... take a look at germans.. mercdes, bmw, audi..... their V8 engines produce power in a range of 420 hp to 600 hp... :-)

  • @Sarcasticscum

Lol yeah, american V8s are a bit crap. 8ltr V8 engine with like 250bhp and 5mpg combined.

  • @fentonjd

Yeah..... I still like classic American muscle cars though.. My dad has several restored examples.. But I still like my '82 242... ..And my '68 Beetle w/ Auto-Stick...

  • @Grodinz Comparing volvo sedan to a corvette? lol man.

  • For some reason i want to put my penis in it.

  • @kimps07 jajjajjajajajajajaj

  • When i read your comment ... My chair has slipped out from under my ass .

  • ja faen!!!

  • @kimps07 You wanna do that because its hot hot hot! :P

  • @kimps07 It would very very hot ;))

  • @kimps07 DO IT

  • @kimps07 ...hahahaha! thats also what I thought. Shit looks tight as fuck

  • HAHAH

  • jij lijkt wel een mongool

  • hou je bek

  • supèrbe bruit ! magnifique voiture aussi

  • fiskar3n fails :P

  • Yamaha V8 with Volvo name on it, actually.

  • much better :D

  • @theburade not true, it is only built by Yamaha, nothing more

  • Volvo developed their eight cylinder motor with Yamaha, so insult them properly! Thats an outboard under the hood! lol

  • no its a yamaha engine , theres no american engines made on european cars from ford group .

  • I know, the Taurus SHO used the Yamaha engine.

  • No, really I know that every one is rating your comments as bad but the original engine was taken from the 1998 Ford Tarus SHO but Volvo made it bigger and much more refined and way way better sounding. Look it up guys.

  • @AdrianC12345

They're just idiots that think VTEC is like a turbo.

  • LOL!!

  • Haha, great analogy

  • @VillejeanRyder35 Yes, the last Ford Taurus SHO used that engine, Volvo just made the engine bigger and more refined. Yamaha designed it yes but it was a Ford engine.

  • Need this V8 in my XC70!!

  • The 4.4 V8 sounds awesome. It makes your kids cry, your dog bark, your wife scream, and best of all it makes your neighbors shit their pants when you pull out of the driveway.

  • that muffler sounds wierd

  • I like how the exhaust pokes out when it is revved up.

  • This Yamaha engine sounds very very good. I like it!

  • This sound really good for a V8

  • Comment removed

  • @MTTMCC Agree!

  • @MTTMCC i agree

  • of course not

  • Don't get carried away

  • omg saddo!!

  • the Volvo 4.4 V8 is derived from the 3.4 V8 Taurus SHO, it is developed with Yamaha, and is affectionately, called the yamahammer.

and also Ford gave Volvo the C1 chassis

(Euro Ford Focus MKII)used in Volvo's bestseller the S40

  • Is this a flatplane V8 or cross plane?

  • sweet

  • look like its a cock....going in and out from pussy :D

  • thats nasty..but i can't deny it it does!

  • you're a douchebag

with no clue as to what the fuck you're talking about

    it is a Yamaha v8

ford also used a yamaha v8 in v8 model

    Taurus sho

  • Pretty cool, Yamaha built this V8 motor and the auto reviewers love it...

  • lol.. i got one of those.. black ofc...

i didn't get it to more than 250 km/h before i had to stop before i reached a speed trap..(thats what we call it where i live) lol

  • LOL! we pulled up next to one at a stop light and we tried to stop light race and got whooped!...Those things are QUICK!

    btw that car counds great.

  • Damn Americans destroyed Volvo

  • ??

The V8 engine is a Volvo/Yamaha collaboration, and it was first seen in the XC90 as far as i'm aware (someone correct me on this if i'm wrong).

    nothing to do with america..

  • The engine in the XC90 is actually a Ford/Yamaha V8 engine, and I don't think V8 suits Volvo. This would have never happened if Volvo Cars stayed Swedish. Goddamn America

  • I still don't see why it's America's "fault" that Volvo have started using V8s. All they're doing is keeping up with the competition. major german marques have been using V8 engines in their flagship models for ages. quite frankly i'm surprised that it took them this long to introduce a V8. it's also a good engine; it has plenty of power and torque to move the car along with very little effort, like a proper luxury car. Move with the times. Volvo have finally realised this, and you should too.

  • You don't need a V8 in an goddamn S80, it suit's good with a straight 6 or a straight 5. The XC90 maybe could do with a V8 yeah, but it doesn't need it, but still if it's gonna have a V8 don't put a Ford V8 in it, we all know their crappy engine's. Personally I am against Volvo's V8 SUV's because it's high level of CO2 that is effecting our climate. People don't buy those SUV's what they are really meant for, they buy them to show off.

  • If Volvo want to continue competing in the marketplace then they do need a V8 in it's luxury flagship. If you love Volvo so much, I'm guessing you want to see them continue to sell cars - it's just the way the market is going. Live with it.

I stopped paying attention as soon as i saw "high level of CO2"...

  • Well it is. My english may be not perfect but Volvo confirm this themself and I hope they scrap their SUV car's because there is totally no point to them

  • I thought this V8 is the cleanest gasoline V8 on the planet.....that has also been confirmed by Volvo. So their V8 SUV's are actually very clean.

  • Sorry you are wrong. The XC90 didn't pass the EU standards because of too much pollution, but Volvo decided to go ahed anyways

  • It has the cleanest V8 on the planet....so unless there's a separate tank of pollution in the SUV with a little guy spraying gases into the air, it does not harm the atmosphere...and more importantly, who cares if it has high emissions? Would you rather have power when you need it, or get stranded on the highway because you didn't plug your electric car in long enough?

  • Why would I need the power of an XC90 when im driving on the freeway? I would choose mine Volvo S70 very clean 5 cyliner engine. Better than that V8

  • If you are from Gothenburg you are not suppose to say that, lol. A lot of jobs are depending on these models. Mine as well.

  • And why shouldn't I? Screw the V8, it isn't needed

  • if you want those sounds coming out of you volvo's exhaust you have to get a V8

  • Ofcourse I would have to, so what? The 5 cyliner Volvo engine still sounds cooler in my opinion though

  • I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but it is most definitely not a Ford design.

If it were, it would be in a Ford. Not just a Volvo.

Ford is spending all of their time on the 3.5 and 3.7 liter V6.

  • Yeah but this is a Ford developed engine for Volvo it wasn't suppose to be in their Ford cars, Volvo didn't make this engine themself

  • Where are you getting your information from?

Have you ever looked in one of these engines? Nothing about it is Ford.

The 3.2, however, is a Ford.

  • this certainly isn't a ford developed engine, totally developed betweem Volvo and Yamaha!

  • Ford developed this engine for volvo? u realy know what ur talking about. this engine is a yamaha boat engine from japan lol. only thing that ford does for volvo is pulling them down and under...

  • Sounds great

  • For your information, it is reallt fun to drive.

The DSTC is acctually nessecery... Especially when you are allowed to just take a ride after making the 1-year-service yourself. (I'm doing my practice on a Volvo-workshop) xD

  • my dad got a brand new Volvo s80 v8 4x4 and its a damn sick car i thers not many that hass one.

  • There was a company at Canary Wharf showing off their version. They took the lump and bolted two superchargers to it, an ECU remap, new exhaust and no limiter. Yours for £65,000. Wish I had taken down the company's name now.

  • it is a v8

  • haha have on just like that

  • Wow i like VOLVO sounds like BMW M5 V10 =O NICE sounds!!!

  • that 315 hp 4.4L Yamaha engine is awesome =) I work at the factory and they're really something! :) The exhaust is Volvo (Ford) stock btw

  • are you working in uddevalla?

  • No, worked in Torslanda where S80 is made, they only make C70 in Uddevalla :)

  • Jag vet;) är grymt intereserad av volvo fast jag bor i Trollhättan:P

  • jag jobbade på Volvo men vi kör saab haha! Nu har jag dock en 940, komp. lite iaf! ;)

  • test driving this in 3 weeks....hmm :)

  • my father got that car . it got 315horse power: )

  • Nice fucking good sound

  • yamaha engines rule, that 4.4L definitely sounds a lot meaner than my 3.4L v8 yamaha :)

  • very very impressive sound. is exhaust system or another parts tuned ?. i cant believing to this is a stock volvo :) nice...

  • you know, you could supercharge that fucker.

or chop the top. be the only kid on the block with an S80 V8 convertible, WITH supercharger.

    Damn.

  • Makes me shiver! Wicked sound!
