Morrowind has to be one of the greatest RPGs of that time and even till today.I know what the next gen(13-year-old),gamers might say."Bad graphics=bad game".If they do,they suck and they are all really gay.That games a masterpiece...Pity not many people remember it... :(

@Warmaker01 It was an amazing game, definately. It was actually the first game I ever played, I got to try it out as a kid when we were visiting some relatives xD. I bought Oblivion and thought it was amazing, with the blocking and stuff in combat and NPCs talking to eachother randomly. The story problems could easily be fixed by mods. Now Skyrim has improved what I love about Oblivion.
I remember Morrowind on the Xbox. My older cousin got it for me but I didn't like it at first, it bored me until like a month later I got into it. Then I got it for the PC and my soul will always be thankful for that.

@andylinkproductions It is only inspiring to see a small group of developers think of a neat idea and build upon what they have. They had to ask other companies for the resources and keep up with modern engines and hardware and have innovative designers. Bethesda has proven that they are an innovative company. Hopefully they can fix those Skyrim bugs. My game still crashes. It is such a genius game though.

I myself am learning game programming right now, and the motivation for that is indie games... Just look at titles like flower, limbo, to the moon, minecraft, ect...
And even if you won't be successful at that, its still cool to know programming and how computers work, Now its like my little hobby, I read books, watch videos online and teach myself. One day I hope to become game programmer, or at least just programmer.
I would love the next Elder Scrolls game to be either Morrowind 2 or Elsweyr. While i played Oblivion i always wanted to go to explore the frozen tundras of Skyrim, because it reminded me of my own country, Norway. @egan108 he didn't it was the company's bad business decisions that sank them. Todd Howard changed the focus and made morrowind which got them back on there feet. If anything he saved the company

It wasn't bad, it just had bad controls and was on DOS (every body was on vista by then) and it wasn't his decision to lead production. then he completely controlled morrowind (by his choice) and what the game sold VERY well and obtained high critical praise. It was also his decision to space out his games. until there finished. he is still lead director on Bethesda's game up to this day. and again the obtain high critical praise and sell well

@UrbanroguePictures Yeah great game Morrowind... 1)tons of NPC's (that have no backround story, no personality, wander around aimlesly day and night, giving the same answers to questions like "my trade" or "latest rumors" . 2) tons of dungeons. Dweomer and Daedric ruins, caves and Ancestral Tombs. 4 presets of dungeons, diferent names. 3) Huge world. Huge but repetitive and hastily made.
@rzaracheta You make valid points, and I can't say I disagree, but Morrowind was the first Elder Scrolls game I had ever played and definitely the first "open world" game I had been introduced to. It will always hold a special place in my heart. :)
I admit though, the first week I played Morrowind I was like " This is the best game EVAH!" wanted to explore the whole map and know everything about it. After a while I saw it for what it is ... a mediocre game. Maybe thats just me, im the kind of person that likes a game to be immersive and wih interesting characters in it. Compered to Gothic where i can name (Diego, Lee, Lester, Lares, Gorn, Milten, Gomez etc.)... In Morrowind nobody remained in my head except Vivec and Dagoth Ur.

@WildBuck007 Do you know why Redguard and Battlespire actually sucked? They removed the open world freedom of the previous games in favour of a more linear title.
The reason this was stupid was because it wasn't what consumers wanted... But consumers do want Skyrim, making COD isn't stupid, it's incredibly smart. Whether the game sucks or not is subjective, it makes money. That's all that matters.
I don't mind innovation. But what really pisses me off about these games lately is the game has this epic huge group of features that can easily be used over and over again. Then they drop it altogether.
Like...ok Morrowind saves their company. So what do they do for the next game? Make it everything BUT the very thing that made their savior popular in the first place.

Oblivion was better because it was more accessible, just because you like old school RPGs doesn't mean all "real" gamers do. In the end it all comes down to your personal taste in games, in my opinion Oblivion was the far superior game. I don't care if you think I'm "casual", Bethesda made the best decision by making the game more open as it appealed to a larger audience and got them way more money.

What can be argued is the overall complexity of them both, and nothing about Oblivion works for me in that respect. Fair enough?

When classics like Psychonauts, Planescape:Torment, and the Shenmue series fail to find an audience, but like CoD who do nothing but pool from the same formula year after year sell more than all other big games combined, there is an issue with sales figures to quality.

I played arena got fat then lost weight played daggerfall got fat lost weight saw morrowind played less because the girls dorm didnt have any cameras. then later in my life i get hit by two things on the same day Christmas my bestfreind rememberd how much i played bethesda game. Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion.

@UrbanroguePictures Yeah great game Morrowind... 1)tons of NPC's (that have no backround story, no personality, wander around aimlesly day and night, giving the same answers to questions like "my trade" or "latest rumors" . 2) tons of dungeons. Dweomer and Daedric ruins, caves and Ancestral Tombs. 4 presets of dungeons, diferent names. 3) Huge world. Huge but repetitive and hastily made.

@rzaracheta You make valid points, and I can't say I disagree, but Morrowind was the first Elder Scrolls game I had ever played and definitely the first "open world" game I had been introduced to. It will always hold a special place in my heart. :)

I admit though, the first week I played Morrowind I was like " This is the best game EVAH!" wanted to explore the whole map and know everything about it. After a while I saw it for what it is ... a mediocre game. Maybe thats just me, im the kind of person that likes a game to be immersive and wih interesting characters in it. Compered to Gothic where i can name (Diego, Lee, Lester, Lares, Gorn, Milten, Gomez etc.)... In Morrowind nobody remained in my head except Vivec and Dagoth Ur.

No matter the argument. Morrowind was a character rpg fps you could live in that world.
Oblivion and skyrim is garbage. They are dropping down into a casm of infinite stupidity by making the same mistakes as redguard and battlespire.

@WildBuck007 Do you know why Redguard and Battlespire actually sucked? They removed the open world freedom of the previous games in favour of a more linear title.
The reason this was stupid was because it wasn't what consumers wanted... But consumers do want Skyrim, making COD isn't stupid, it's incredibly smart. Whether the game sucks or not is subjective, it makes money. That's all that matters.

I don't mind innovation. But what really pisses me off about these games lately is the game has this epic huge group of features that can easily be used over and over again. Then they drop it altogether.
Like...ok Morrowind saves their company. So what do they do for the next game? Make it everything BUT the very thing that made their savior popular in the first place.
Whats so hard about taking the exact system and just making it look better without the bugs? Go figure.

@WildBuck007 By 2011 Morrowind had sold 1.8 million. Within the first year Oblivion broke 1.7 million.
They obviously chose the best option.

Game sales drop significantly over time. I would be surprised if Oblivion sales hit 10k per year, two years after release. All you have to do is look at the modding community. Much stronger than Oblivion's. Oblivion's basically exists to fix it's issues. True facts. You're wrong, mate.

Oblivion was better because it was more accessible, just because you like old school RPGs doesn't mean all "real" gamers do. In the end it all comes down to your personal taste in games, in my opinion Oblivion was the far superior game. I don't care if you think I'm "casual", Bethesda made the best decision by making the game more open as it appealed to a larger audience and got them way more money.

@Axeldeath0 If you want to look at it that way. My issue was with your saying it was no less an rpg than Morrowind, and that it was just as deep. The better game is subjective ( I don't see it). What can be argued is the overall complexity of them both, and nothing about Oblivion works for me in that respect. Fair enough?

When classics like Psychonauts, Planescape:Torment, and the Shenmue series fail to find an audience, but like CoD who do nothing but pool from the same formula year after year sell more than all other big games combined, there is an issue with sales figures to quality.
