  • really wonder if primitive people used clay for water containers when on the move

  • @cekinxxx A deers stomach was used for water containers when on the move.

  • @tim3jones thanks

  • @cekinxxx seem reasonable

  • Yo like the video I might try it but just wondering is it possible to make an arrow head using the clay?or will it be like sort of too soft

  • @TheAmazingLarryKoopa Yes i made arrow heads for clay they work great, I let them dry over night then put them in a hot fire and let cool slow.

  • I've had pottery on my mind for some time now, but got confused by reading about it. Really good to see it in practice. Guess I gotta go clay huntin' once the ground thaws out...

  • @sympractic You can make a lot of stuff out of clay, Good luck on clay hunting.

  • This is amazing. Didn't see it until after your recent video on purifying water. My question is, if you already made a jug and fired it, could you also fill that full on water (assuming it was a fairly large jug) and set it back in a fire to boil the water for future use?

  • @g0tblu Yes.

  • This would be great to use in a survival situation to store food and water and to cook things in it. I bet it all takes a bit of work but it looks like it payed off well for you. Thanks for sharing!

  • This video totally amazes me...i can't wait for spring to try it!

  • @nativerobin I like going in the woods and making stuff, Glad you like this video. :)

  • great video tim. i tried to do the same but all my pots exploded in the fire after about 5-10 minutes (they had been left to dry for around a week before firing). most of the pottery firing instructions i read involve preheating the pots slowly at first, but you seem to be able to just start right away with a big fire without any cracking problem. any idea why? thanks a lot!

  • @ohvnaq Make sure no small are in your clay.

  • Great primitive skills. thank You for sharing it.

  • Emmm Emmm a nice smooth jug!

  • Great video can't wait to try it !

  • love it...great to know if I ever need to

  • Nice, will definitely remember this technique!

  • Howdy brother, I tried making something similar which seemed to work great until I decided to see if it could hold water. The water started turning it back into muddy clay. Did I do something wrong?

  • @OnslowThurston Did you fire it in a hot fire and Then you let it cool overnight.

  • Is this right?

After you form the clay pot, you let it dry overnight?

Then you fire it for 1 hour?

Then you let it cool overnight?

    Great video!

    Thanks!

  • @HighlandsCastle Yep but some times i will let it fire for 2 hours.

  • I love how you just made it up and didn't bother to seive the sand out of the clay or anything, first! Sure makes pottery look simple!

  • Doesnt the clay contaminate the water enough to make the water taste clay like? And how long did you fire it?

  • @1spiritualalchemy1 The water taste great know taste of the clay in it, I fired it about a hour and let it cool down slow .

  • hey tim thats just amazing skill. sacred simplicity.

  • How can you tell if it's clay?

  • @SJSjack1 To test if it's clay get it wet and make a ball see if it stays together like play doh if it stays together it's clay.

  • Amazing job, also looks.real fun to do aswell

  • How do you know if the ground is made up of clay?

  • @acidfriend47 To test if it's clay get it wet and make a ball see if it stays together like play doh if it stays together it's clay.

  • could you cook soup in it without it breaking?

  • @musicoutsidethebox Yes you can, The more you fire the clay the harder it get's.

  • i live in west Tennessee and there is a creek about a mile through the woods and its littered with white chunks that are soft and i would like to know if it is clay or what please reply because id love to try this .

  • @MrHoustonsk8er You can test it by making something small then let it dry over night then put it a fire and let it cool slow.

  • @tim3jones is it possible to fire it for too long ?

  • @MrHoustonsk8er I make one big fire then let it cool slow.

  • @MrHoustonsk8er if you want to learn how to fire it properly outside, look at some of the videos on youtube on Raku firing.

  • @acidfriend47 thanks

  • @MrHoustonsk8er By the way since your doing something like that, you should look at some of the Indian potters the clay wheels they make to make pieces like that faster. ( pottery wheel) not the modern ones but the old ones. maybe that will be something you would like since you are doing some pottery

  • @acidfriend47 alright ill do that thanks your very helpful =)

  • Tim my favorite video of all time...!!!!

  • @jmg1957 I'm glad you like it Jim! :)

  • I would like you to be my friend. God Bless you and your family

  • cool

  • Man, this video is awesome! These are a real work of art. Do you sell them? Really cool. Thanks for sharing.

  • @answers365 I keep them around my house i don't sell them.

  • @tim3jones I live up in northern Michigan. Would there be any clay here in the north that would work for this? I mean does this require a special clay? Thanks

  • @answers365 I don't know if all have clay up there, If it look's like clay had some water to it and work with it and see if it acts play Dough it should stay together.

  • very cool

  • After another plastic planter pot just broke I think I am starting to get the crazy idea of making these from clay. You don't see people making something from something so often anymore. So how is that for you? He just made something from absolutely nothing.

  • @gwynedd1 We make a lot of stuff out of clay for the earth here in Oklahoma some broke but most turn out great.

  • Once again LOTS of great info flat out .............and with NO head banger music !!!!! Now I know what the wife is gettin for Christmas ! Just kidding. Thanks Tim

  • Great lesson Tim, thank you. now we can all add this to our tools to survive. only one question. How long did you have to fire it for?

  • Truly practical for survival situation.

Having a place to boil and store water can be the difference between life and death.

Clay is almost everywhere if you dig for it. And like you said it ma take a little time and effort to clean the debris out but well worth it.

    Nice job.

  • @ParadisePromises Thank you, yes it is.

  • Wow it works Thanks, I dug down about 2 feet, (not by river) but in my yard. then i sifted out the bigger rocks with a screen. added water. and let it set.

about a day later i slowly heated it next to the fire and steam came out.

by this time it was hard, then i fired it. and now i have a cool ashtray, thanks

  • @yourroaddog Your welcome, That is good you got it made now you can make any think you want from clay.

  • @tim3jones Next i will make a peace pipe..lol no serious thanks great video

  • I tried this with red clay. made a jug, let it sit 24 hrs then tried to fire it. When in the fire it cracked pretty bad. any suggestions?

  • @ericlovv Make shore all little rock are out of your clay.

  • well done...

  • @jmg1957 Thank you.

  • how long do you have to let it fire? thanks for the videos.

  • @clewi1091 I let it fire for two hour's. Then let it cool down before you move it.

  • @richard2mitchell I made a lot of stuff with clay from the creek.

  • @tim3jones where do u live?

  • @tim3jones and can u heat water in this?

  • bro, another awesome wilderness skill enhancement video.

keep up the generous and good work. if someday, in the wilderness somewhere, a life is saved, with or without your knowledge, because someone watched and learned the survival skills from your videos, your mission on Earth is accomplished. be proud of yourself bro.

    thank you.

  • @nipzilla Thank you bro. :)

    5 stars

  • Thank you Joe.

  • You should really think about teaching weekend survival classes. You're a wealth of knowledge and I would love to soak up all the information over a week or two ;)

  • I agree! Of all the stuff on Youtube, this is most entertaining! Wish there was more stuff like this on youtube thought...

  • what did you add to the clay when you mixed it?

  • clay and water.

  • no sand? hmmm nice

  • no sand only clay and water 24hours of drying, put in a hot fire let cool slow...

  • You are a hero... Gotta try that next summer. Did the bottom harden as well, the side that was towards the ground? It seems to work

  • Thank you, Yes it did harden up all over.

  • way 2 cool....great job...

  • i need to find a creek with a bit of clay and my life will be complete.

  • This was a lot of fun . Thanks for the clip .. Yours Guy

  • once its fired dose it dissolve if its used to hold water for a long time?

  • Yes it hold water for a long time.

  • I really enjoyed the video. Here in SC, there's certainly no shortage of materials, so I'll be making these left and right now that I know how!

  • I can't wait to do this with some of my students. Another 5 Star video.

  • That's cool, remove all small rock that's in the clay, small rock's will make a crack in clay when firing it , good luck.

  • Thanks for the heads up on the rocks. I'll have one student be the rock remover.

  • Your welcome friend .

  • i got to try that its cool

  • Thank you, Good luck bro!

What kind of clay works well for that? Will Georgia red clay work?

  • Try making a clay marble with your Georgia red clay let it dry over night then put it in a hot fire, let it cool over night in the fire has the fire go's out If it stay's together it will work, Take all small rock's out.

  • Thank you much. I'll give it a wing.
