A lot of Norwegians from the Southern part of Norway moved to the US and Canada a long time ago, first because they could own bigger farms there and also because the US govt was interested in white europeans moving to many unpopulated lands. So the banned or reduced the immigration of italians and spaniards and had the US embassy in Norway promote the immigration to the US. What you see in this episode, is more of the core and older Norwegian way of life. I think they capture that very well up, but it does not so well represent Norwegians today. We are after all talking about emigrants here. What it captures well, is the good old Norwegian kindness. The problem is of course that it is too naive, just like in real life. That is why our country is filled with people living on the welfare state. And not just foreigners! The oil is the reason for Norway's wealth!
