Vegetarianism and Veganism also has been linked to people becoming malnourished. Natural selection of the food chain works and can be done in a humane way. I'm half pinoy and all my relatives eat dog meat. Though sometimes when I argue with overzealous Pacquiao fanatic kabayans I call them dog eater. But in truth I understand the difference in culture. I join dad when I was 9 and couldn't remember if I eat dog meat. If I grew up there I would eat dog meat too. No shame in that. It's a cultural identity that we have to be proud of.

After my mom died in the philippines, I made best friends with 2 stray cats. They were my only friends. My grandparents didn't give a rats about me and my sister and always spended the money that my dad sends instead and we didn't have friends in school in the philippines. I'm now back in the US and theres never ever a day I can't think of my furry friends.

Most Filipinos feel the same way. That's why this practice has been illegal in the Philippines for some years. It is only recently that the laws have been strengthened to give realistic penalties to the minority that insist on inflicting these abuses to dogs.
We genuinely hope that the Philippines Govt will use these new penalties to bring about the end of dog eating in this country permanently.

This British Aristocrat has no business punishing dog eaters outside of Britain. 80% of Filipinos are poor 40% are extremely poor, hungry and malnourished. There are a quarter million stray dogs in the cities and God know how many in the provinces. I have many poor hungry cousins and relatives. Is she going to feed them? I'm half pinoy and all my relatives eat dog meat. Though sometimes when I argue with overzealous Pacquiao fanatic kabayans I call them dog eater. But in truth I understand the difference in culture. I join dad when I was 9 and couldn't remember if I eat dog meat. If I grew up there I would eat dog meat too. No shame in that. It's a cultural identity that we have to be proud of.

Some kids just pass out during flag ceremony due to hunger and I'm not making this up. I saw this with my eyes. I know because I have so many poor cousins. Besides dogs are eaten since the Spanish time. Yeah it's disgusting but I think we should rather leave them alone. If we can't help them at least we don't hurt them.

The first is that rabies is not necessarily transmitted only through dogs.

After my mom died in the philippines, I made best friends with 2 stray cats. They were my only friends. My grandparents didn't give a rats about me and my sister and always spended the money that my dad sends instead and we didn't have friends in school in the philippines. Then one day my grandparents got rid of our cats and its still hard for me to accept it. It happened 10 years ago. I'm now back in the US and theres never ever a day I can't think of my furry friends.

You are right about Africa, there's this one particular tribe that slaughters a dog and eats them once every year. I've seen it on a documentary once or twice. However, it has nothing to do with the subject here.
I find this news relieving, it gives me a sense that consumption of dog meat is being enforced in the Philippines. However, bad news about it is that there are people doing it under secrecy.
I'm an American-Filipino. My family loves dogs. We've owned many and have never abused them.

Most Filipinos feel the same way. That's why this practice has been illegal in the Philippines for some years. It is only recently that the laws have been strengthened to give realistic penalties to the minority that insist on inflicting these abuses to dogs.
We genuinely hope that the Philippines Govt will use these new penalties to bring about the end of dog eating in this country permanently.

Section 6 Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 provides that it is unlawful to trade dogs for human consumption.
Section 11 of RA 9482 (Anti-Rabies Act of 2007) also states that any person found guilty of trading dog meat faces one to four years imprisonment and a penalty of P5,000 per dog.
