Interesting how all cores can maintain that speed (and stay stable.) This is one of the many reasons that I choose AMD for those "hardcore" tasks and tests.
i always wonder why they dont go further then 6.3 Ghz .. if your running your CPU at that speed and your still in minus F and even minus celceus .. why not push it more ? why do you need to have a 6.3 at -200C ?
@PAC0TAC0 no thats not the reason. You would get sponsorship from Intel and get free cpus. Its cause Intel is not targeting enthusiasts market they are targeting corporations market. And being able to overclock doesn't mean anything for corporations.
how about the cold bug problem with the i7's? AMD's Phenom II 940 can run -200C temperatures while the i7 cannot, also AMD has acheived a world record 3dMarks score of 45,000 with the Phenom II 940 OC'd to 6.5GHz. Intel is losing the race
Every core in this video is running at 6.3ghz, but things like the L3 cache or the bottlenecking by RAM or the videocard will never change or dissappear. So you won't be getting the performance of a "24ghz" CPU.
a core isn't the same thing as a full CPU. Cores within a CPU share things like cache and FSB. This limits their performance. Even if you had 4 true CPUs in a machine, all running at 6ghz or whatever, the performance doesn't "stack" and add up to 24ghz worth of performance. it might be only 2x-2.5x faster than a single CPU. It is a little misleading but make sense if you understand the difference between a "core" and a "CPU".
Oh. So the speed of the L3 cache, the lag in the memory controller and the delay of the hypertransport ALL create bottlenecks. Therefore, even though we may have cores that run at 6 GHz, we wont have the actual 24GHz performance cos of the bottlenecks created by the existing buses. Am i right?
yeah, thats the idea. Performance would be brought down further by real world obstacles. Such as lack of multi-threaded support or even a motherboard and other components.
It's not just a general rule that the colder you make the CPU, the faster it can be clocked, is it? Cos there's the physical limits on the silicon and stuff aswell, so I believe.
Its just marketing to try and convince people there above the competition. Even ethusiasts who do like to overclock, will generally do it on air, so there obviously more interested in how it does in those circumstances. Its still cool to see how far they can push their tech though, even if its not gonna make you go out and buy one.
the disadvantages of processors with TDP's higher than 45 watts is:
increased risk of radiowave sickness
and cognitive stresses.
cant run your pc system without a loud
whinning fan that sounds like a hair dryer.
dramaticaly shortened life span of motherboard components, memory dimms, and peripheral cards from microwave frenquency induced currents. (heat and electronics dont mix)
Great CPU, "bank for the buck" Got mine yesterday, 8th of jan AMD phenom II 940 am2+ overclocked CPU-cooler: V8 CoolerMaster (0.8 KG) multiplier:19 volt :1.45 volts clock :200 mhz Stable at 3.82 GHZ (runs anything) Upgraded from a Intel E6750 (stock 2.66, mine oced:3,6) It gave me a big performance boost. Benchmarks test confirm the Intel-i7 is faster, but I always check: Price/performance = AMD phenom II 940
Hector Ruiz gone = AMD leading the market again. It seems a good year awaits ahead for AMD's future has been restored. After many years of battering by Hector Ruiz, who only progress was to bash Intel with words instead of performance.

theres a reason why u see amd cpus getting overclocking records and other records more than the new i7s cuz ther expensive and shit

It's an engineering sample as viewed in CPU-Z Don't use A different chip to post records. Use a retail when it comes out. That's how it's done.

that doesn't mean it adds up to 24ghz if thats what you're thinking...

it doesnt? Whoah. I thought that a quad core CPU has 4 cores running at the same frequencies

Someone overclocked a Pentium 4 to nearly 8.2GHz. So, no, AMD is not the only one who can do this. But still, this is quite impressive.

Considering he is doing it in windows, not so much. Many LN2 comps do this and they are using I7's now. I want to see stability.
