  • It really sinks into me. Great, great guitar!

  • @WPRR1 Thanks a lot for your comment. I really appreciate it!

    Paul

  • wonderful

  • Great. Very lyrical. Enjoyable. More lyrical than a lot of guitar players. Your primary goal is to make emotional music. Sometimes people forget.

Just a comment on technique: it looks like your left hand is working harder than it has to.

  • brilliant.

  • you deserve a nicer background:)

    wonderfull!

  • @369587369587 Thanks! :-)

  • @369587369587 were you talking about the room or the backingtrack? xD

  • @daniellique Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

    Paul

  • woah, pretty cool man!

  • you should give some lessons on your improvisation, its great!

  • @prjctcivilian Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it.

  • this, sir is excellent. i have to do a transcription for my high school jazz band and i was thinking about doing this song. your ability to follow the chord changes is amazing as well as your technique and i think that this is an excellent example of jazz guitar technique.

  • @shwarmph Thanks a lot. Nice to hear you're in your school jazz band. Good luck & have fun!

    Paul

  • PAUL YOU'RE MY FREAKING HERO

  • Thank you. Glad you liked it.

    Paul

  • This is so bad ass, I can't believe jazz guitar could sound this sweet...I'm going to try and play this now, haha

  • Thanks!

  • what scale do you mainly use in this?

  • I guess I'm mainly hovering around GMaj, CMaj and Em

    Paul

  • i mean the first part of the song up until it hits the chorus

  • sir, that by far is the best jazz solo i have ever heard. is there any way you could send me that music

  • are u a professional musician.

and a very nice solo, i copied it note for note.

im a big fan of ur playing.

u helped me learn a lot about the art of jazz guitar

  • Thanks a lot. No, I don't play professionally at the moment. I'm really flattered that you learned this note for note.

    Paul

  • well u should try to be, u would be a great contributor to any band ur in.

  • Hey Paul, hows things these days? I gotta tell ya that was brilliant! I loved the way you pop in little pieces of other tunes! Those little things make your playin so interesting. I really enjoy hearing you, and your creativity. I just got the Ibanez AGS95DBS. WOW for the $ a great guitar. Which gauge are you using, and flat or round? .........KEEPON STRUMMIN...........DALLAS....ps where are you from?

  • Thanks a lot Dallas! I hope you enjoy that new guitar! I'm using D'Addario 12 flatwounds.

    Paul

  • i don't know why but this arrangement kept on my mind since the first time i saw... I LOVE ur version ur melody !!......GREAT EVER...soothing and deep ! thanks for posting this video....i've seen it lots of times....ten thumbs up !

    Paul

  • As sweet as ever Paul. Great movement and nice lines on this one.

    All the best and thanks

    John

  • Hey John, nice to hear from you! Hope all is well.

    Paul

  • im 14 years old. and a beginner jazz guitarist. how do get that good with your octaves and scales. because i can play this song pretty well but play with a blues kinda soloing

  • Thanks for watching! If you want to get a jazzier sound, besides lots of practice make sure you listen to lots of jazz players and emulate what they do in terms of phrasing. For octaves, Wes Montgomery was the master. Look up some of his videos. Good luck!

    Paul

  • i know how to play west coast blues and willow weep for me.

    and some of the tequila

so i just got to get used to octaves

  • Sounds like you're well on the way then! The octaves can be a little tricky at first. I practiced switching between string sets a lot when I was working on them.

    Paul

  • yay!wes m. style'love it!

  • Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!

    Paul

  • this is the best improvitation on this song..i've seen others but yours is GOOD !

  • Thank you very much!

    Paul

  • Well Done Paul! Your feel and sensitivity for the song is really nice. I think I hear some Joe Diorio influence here.

  • Thank you! That's a great compliment and really appreciated. Joe is truly one of my favorite players and a huge influence!

    Paul

  • Beautiful playing!

I really like your phrasing. You don't sound like every other blue note player who just unleash their licks, but your improvisation goes to many interesting places. You are in the groove perfectly. Do you play gigs?

  • Thank you for the very nice comments! No, I don't gig at the moment.

    Paul

  • Great phrasing. Like your style.

  • Thanks a lot.

  • Hate easy, gushing, praise... but I loved it: such an easy style, love the change in dynamics at 1.11 and your Coreyell'ish vibrato

(terrible english)Looking forward to future offerings Thanks!!

  • Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it and I really appreciate your kind remarks!

    Paul

  • This is beautiful.

    Thank you.

  • Thanks for your comment.

    Paul

  • Hi Pauldil-

This is wonderful! Can you tell me what version of 'Things' you're playing to? Interesting chord progression in certain areas.

  • Thanks! I used the changes from the Real Book.

    Paul

  • Jazz guitar at its best!!!

Makes me want to play again...

    Superb!!!

  • Thanks! Never too late to start up again :-)

    Paul

  • awesome. i love it!!!

  • Thank you!

    Paul

  • hi

just lovely and sweet.. too many jazzers forget

it is not about themselves, or how many notes can be crammed into a bar-- but it really about the song. original thoughts and just sweetness from every measure. great woody sound out of that guitar, as well

    thanks fo rsharing

    shally

  • I'm very glad you enjoyed it shally. Thanks a lot for your nice comments!

    Paul

  • ЗачОт! Сыграно с пониманием

  • Thank you afeok.

  • Wow! That was really great playing. Not a note out of place, sounded perfect.

By the way, did you improvise that in the Key or Eminor? It was really good.

  • Thanks, I appreciate it! I guess from a key center perspective, you can look of this as being (mostly) in Em, G Major and C Major.

  • Hey great playing.. Do you think you could send me that tab? Just the part with the main rift and the main chorus rift... It would be really appreciated.. Once again awesome job on this song...

  • Came back for a second listening and enjoyed again, nice octave playing Paul, strong single note lines with a solid timing. great playing here, greets Victor.

  • Thanks Victor!!

  • Paul, really enjoyed the octaves. Can't remember if Wes did a version of this...

  • Thanks Jack! I'm not really sure if Wes did this or not. I know Grant Green did a really nice version.

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • Glad I hear you play this Tune, once I made an arrangement and I just gotta brush it off and record, it's such an emotional Tune, used to listen to Coltrane's long improvisations and never got enough of it,such a great progression and melody.long live Jazz man, let's keep it alive man for generations to come, Victor.

  • What can I say Paul absolutely fantastic-best version Iv'e ever heard played.
