  • this song is still relevant 23 years after 1989.

"nothing can be changed except ourselves"

we're still frozen in that we haven't changed a thing.

  • shut up ska bois and get a real job not everyone can be opiv or gween day, become a cop and change the system. be a fire fighter, be an emt, be a cook, be a pizza boi, be Metallica's bumper biotch. get off your ass and change your stupid world instead of being some ho cho armchair anarchist lazy apathetic fuck. remember be yourself and do your best with it, young punks. Blessed the worms, yer allready dead!!! suckas!

  • @TheSEOUTLAW I somehow doubt you are making a difference to the world when you can't even spell Green, or capitalise your own sentences properly.

  • I always only knew little bits of the lyrics since Jesse is such an amazing singer, and sorta got an idea of him talking about this climate of shittiness around him. But now that I read the lyrics here (after listening to the song for eleven years) it is even better than I thought!

  • @Perdedor42o any other bands like this i should know about? ... lol

  • I like videos of songs like this I grew up loving.

you really get to see how ignorant and misinformed the kids are these days just by reading the comments.

  • "Set in our way content with our decay, We wave the flag of freedom as we conquer and invade"

  • @DoctorSess Still so relevant

  • i know what song we're gonna cover now.

  • this is scarily accurate

  • 1989 stand up and take a look around......hahahahah...beautiful....grow up bitches

  • Somebody fucked up here, its:

    "There's a pizza

    There's a pizza comming!"

    Morons....

  • In 1989 I bought 2 Op Ivy T shirts with the jazz hands dude on them, I got fat and threw them out, dam you salad, why aren't you tasty?

  • My favorite Operation Ivy song...and still dangerously true-to-life...

  • i used to think it said "theres a reason coming"

  • Possibly my favorite song of all time, more relevant today than in '89. Actually '89 is not looking so bad these days. It was basically the end of the cold war and the Soviet pullout fom Afghanistan. Nirvana was about to break and hair-metal was on its way out, Metallica still had not made a video. In retrospect better times than now. If we thought things looked grim then, we could not imagine the Tea Party or Iraq. Thanks to Tim for staying on message all these years.

  • @kenzadelphia russia pulled out and u stuck it in right after

  • @kenzadelphia 1989 was the deal. i was only in elementry school but I remember it quite well. I had a commadore amiga 500, microsoft just release windows 2.0, everybody had a NES, malls and arcades were the place to be, the economy pumping. it was americas hay day adn money was in the air!

btw nothing wrong with the tea party imo. people questioning and protesting thier gov. and holding the establishment, career, sellout polititians responsible for lining thier elite pockets with payoff's.

  • @TheJonnyutah Nothing wrong with the TEA Baggers except they're a bunch of crypto-fascist racist lunatics...

  • @praxis1966 Ok, so you've resorted to doragatory terms and calling them crypto fascists and racists. most of whom are libertarians and fiscal conservatives. nothing progresses the argument like caling someone a racist and a fascist. :) The fact is you don't have an argument. calling someone racist is easy and lazy. it means you don't have the ability or the intent of placing forth a credible argument. better luck next time ;)

  • @TheJonnyutah I'm not interested in discussing anything with a group of people that disgusting. When you show up at a rally holding a picket sign that has a caricature of Obama (not that I'm a fan of his conservative ass either but still) made to look like he's in blackface and with exaggeratedly large lips and nose and a gun on your hip, the conversation's pretty much over. By the way, the term "libertarian" in its modern context is a code word for Social Darwinist, FYI.

  • @TheJonnyutah But you're right about one thing: Calling them racist is easy because they are.

  • @TheJonnyutah Actually there is a huge problem with the Tea Party you fucking moron! They are huge hypocrites that voted for republican politicians (larger hypocrites) who voted for financial legislative bills and issues, which lead to the mortgage crisis and bank fall outs. Buy a fucking book you dumb piece of shit! Dems are as dumb and spineless! Don't trust politicians in general. Can't believe you trust a party system....I hope to uncover you as a front for some republican campaign! LOSE!

  • @stickbandit27 This is going to be fun.....little man of such simple concepts. I can tell that your communication skills are are sub standard. Call in me a moron and insulting my intelligence dosen't do much to persuade others of your simple mined, dictatorial viewpoint :) I am a individualist. As an individual, I will decide for myself what political movment is valid or not. oh and btw. I do read. but somehow I get the feeling that you don't think ayn rand is a valid author.

  • @TheJonnyutah That's because Ayn Rand isn't. The only reason her book sales stay up is because her foundation, heavily financed by wealthy industrialists, buys her books en masse and then gives them away... artificially driving up sales numbers. Basically, her entire philosophy relies on a rationalization of unchecked greed because of some inherent supremacy of the up classes. It's complete bullshit, but now that I know that you're a Randroid I can proceed to ignore you. :D

  • static indivsion is increasing like a storm...oi

  • This is SUCH a good song

  • always loved the raw sound of this song

  • I wonder;

What if Jesse Michaels went on with Matt Freeman, And Tim was the one doing the common rider stuff.

    How kickass(-er) would Rancid be?

I think Jesse is far under-noticed,

Just look at these lyrics, He's a very intelligent man.

I wanna see Op. Ivy get back together,

Or maybe Rancid doesn't mind a third guitarist...

    No disrespect to Tim,

After all this is coming from a fourteen year old boy who has wet dreams about him...

Nah, I'm kidding, But Tim is my hero.

  • @imabadexample1 They wont...Lint is dead.

  • @demonfang41 no

  • what dzizka1 said :)

  • I started listening to these guys 14 years ago and still dig them just like the first time I ever heard them.

  • kick ass

  • it's 2011 stand up & take a look around...

  • @peachgyalmomo goddammit i just used that as the caption when i posted it to facebook. fuckit, i guess i'll hit the thumbs up button.

  • @peachgyalmomo It's 2012 stand up and take a look around...

  • 0 dislikes

  • op. ivy lyrical genius even in a two year run and relevant more then twenty years down the line, one a billion kinda band

  • Comment removed

  • i feel like they have a lot of fun with their music.

  • Operation ive should of never stopped making music

  • Comment removed

  • @ddcink Operation ive never heard of.

Op Ivy should have been in the game for 10-15 more year at least though.

  • @SKAuthenticDank I meant to say ivy sorry

  • bosko/joey??? x)

  • Absolutely.

  • 1:29

  • This is the greatest song ofall time. No matter what anyone says. I mean just read the lyrics, that says it all

  • 22 years later and still going strong

  • this is the only operation ivy song that i would personally change the lyrics, line 4 of the 2nd verse in my opinion should be, We wave the flag of freedom as we conquer and obey, instead of conquer and invade

  • @nymetsrock I like it the way it is now. Many people are blindly waving the flag while we're fighting an illegal, and not to mention pointless war.

  • @fd95117 i just think conquer and invade have the same basic meaning, but people are following them without question, and giving support

  • FRIEZA'S COMIN!

  • I was listening to this song when my computer crashed. IRONY???????????????

  • @jawallace1991 No, that's not what irony is...

  • @eatthefriggenpie Actually, in the song the term "freeze up" is used in reference to the temperature (ie "Every hour shows the winter getting harder - There's a freeze up coming.."), and that is reasonable as that is the literal meaning of the word "freeze". However, jawallace1991 used this term in reference to his computer ceasing to work. Irony is defined as "the use of words expressing something other than their literal intention", and so he has in fact demonstrated true irony. IMO

  • we wave the flag of freedom as we conquer and invade. and this was written in 1989

  • Great song the Energy album blew me away the first time I heard it.

  • yummy yummy in my ear tummy! hahaha

  • 0:22 - 0:32

  • @longhairedpunk1 lol you fuck yeah dude. we should drink together, based off this statement.

  • @longhairedpunk1 I see what you mean, but RHCP were formed in 83 so...

  • dude i fucking love your posts op ivy always makes me in a good mood and gives me energy!

  • I hate to think it, but possibly someday subway might use this song for their comercials.

  • @gett1n30smart86 It would be a smart marketing scheme lol

  • Operation Ivy is amazing. And It's "Freeze Up" not "Free Sub"

  • @KrissHellcat LOL, OH WELL AS LONG AS THEY'RE ENJOYING IT, THATS ALL THAT MATTERS HAHAHA

  • THERE'S A FREE SUB

    THERE'S A FREE SUB COMING

  • @zakkyummms No problem, douchebag!

  • @scottkube lmao

  • @scottkube hey come on! dont ruin this song for me! lol

  • nothing can be changed except ourselves! :D

  • It's amazing how relevant this song is, twenty years later.

  • @JoseR0821 you're damn right man. in 1989, jesse words were prophetic and actual at the very same time.

  • @JoseR0821 Yeah, the freeze up was coming, now we're frozen.

  • @JoseR0821 Right? unbelievable!

  • Thank you! I've been wanting to learn the lyrics for some time.
