  • real sailing is this! hope to become skilled like u guys..for now I capsize often with my a class :)

  • @lovegt40 Keep practicing, you'll get there :)

  • 3:28 WOW

  • this video is amazing! think those guys have sailed a bit?

  • this video is amazing!

  • TOO much FUN!!!

  • Nice min 3:42

  • Dropped in and cut off the surfer @ 1:35....not cool

  • so cool

  • WOW

  • Having sailed a Hobie 16 for over 30 years all I can say is FANTASTIC, both video and song. Getting airborne at 20 knots can only happen on a catamaran (for two people).

  • The video is great and when they get air flying over the crest on one hull wow. Very skillful and if this is their job where do I sign on!

  • This was one of the first videos i ever watched on youtube. Its also one of my fave sailing videos ever! Great work!

  • any body know the name of the tune?

  • @waurma it's morcheba, i don't know the name of the song though.

  • I surf on the regular and this is one of my favorite videos on youtube i wish my hobie was in this good condition!

  • This is an excellent video and captures the joy of sailing. Watch the fun on their faces!

  • Whats this song called? amazing video by the way!

  • @pmarro i don't know the name of the song, but it's morcheba that sings it

  • Is a great way to have fun! Good!

  • one of my all time favorite youtube videos

  • Great Video Guy's " Beach Cats World Network "

  • Sailors should not touch the surface of the sea!!! That means bad luck, however wish i was 1 of those sailor. Great video... ;)

  • fantastic.....looked to me as if the surfers loved it as much as the sailors did.....wrote my hobie 16 off doing the same thing in Auckland 20 years

  • Paddle has priority over sail, as well as sail has priority over motorboats. Just to let you know, I'm surfer and skipper.

  • hay fuck you surfers that think you own the water.. get on a hobie and do what they just did then talk your shit.

  • I surf and sail, so can appreciate your skills here. BUT there is no frickin way you should be sailing through a crowded line up like that! Dangerous and stupid. If it was me on that wave I would've flicked my board through the hull or at you two idiots!!

  • AWESOME AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOUUUUUU :)

used to sail hobie in baja...have missed it :(

LOVE IT !~!!!!!!wish you happy sails :)

  • 3:18 and 3:25 awesome.

  • the best part of this vid starts at 3:50

  • Very Cool! Love it!

  • that stand up was not impressed. They just broke the number one surfing rule by cutting in on that persons wave.

  • I have been sailing on the beaches of North Carolina for 30 years now and my only close calls were from swimmers in close to the beach, where there is very little control of the boat in the shallow water. Surfers are more visible and usually outside the break in deeper water where you still have some rudder authority. As for laws against Beach Cats, there must of been thousands of violators back in the 80's. This must be the reason all the beach cats have disappeared!!!

  • Sick......

  • This looks fun...

  • Kickass! Thanks for the link Ben. The surfers are obviously enjoying the action. As a surfer, I know I would be too.

  • this definetly deserves to go into the favorites!

  • Man you all mustve had to realy watch ur boat with the jib and genoa both flying

  • Epic stuff. I ve gone surfing in a Laser before but that is fairly simple considering it is practically a surfboard :P

also try wake surfing with a sail boat the next time your out highly recomended.

  • the award for the largest wind powered surfboard goes to these guys probly a little insaner than kiteboarding

  • Ha, so easy to see who's a surfer and who's not :-)

This is epic footage, and from what i can see, the surfers in the video agree.

Its pretty rare that someone is gonna be brave/crazy/rich enough to put a 10grand boat out in surf, so enjoy it for fuck sake!

  • ok every one this is not illegal the law every one seems to be quoting only apply's to power boats ( power boats being boats that have a mechanical propulsion system fitted) this does not include sail so stop ur fucking whining and enjoy what is a good video

  • I guess the surfs not good so its not a big deal but if it was good/decent size i hope you wouldnt be doing that.

  • Kooks.

  • impressive sails

  • wow much better than my Hobie 16.

  • wish i had your skills guys (you"r ace)

  • I need this one!!!!

  • Fuck the surfers you dont own the beach!!!

  • Its not owning but the surfers have rights just like walking accross the road.

You wait untill theres no cars coming.

You dont just run out whenever in fronty of cars expecting them to stop.

The rules for the ocean should be stuck to just like on the road.

By the way you broke the law in that clip, boats like that should remain at least 60 metres away from PERSONS.

  • you are right, 5 people died in the making of this video. And the surfers in this video (specially at 1:30) are all complaining with the sailors.

Cmon twat face, grow a pair of balls and unstick ur malibu from ur ass...

  • erm LOOL! your pathetic... made me laugh though...

  • you just think you surfers are so importnant, the surfers are obviously having fun even though a catamaran is there

  • i did over react however it is ILLEGAL.

  • maybe not in france

  • @jogamatudo five people did not die that's total bs.

  • Comment removed

  • @jogamatudo

    irony

    noun

the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.

    • a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result : [with clause ] the irony is that I thought he could help me.

  • @jogamatudo your fucking retarded.

  • Although I'm impressed, and sail myself... Dude, have some respect. Sail where you aren't going to ruin a bunch of other peoples fun.

  • that's called dropping in, and being an arse, they deserve a solid kicking.

  • YOU deserve a solid kicking.

  • Thanks, please come sailing around my local surf spot

  • no, YOU come to MY local SAILING spot..

  • Dudes that s whicked.

  • Idiots. Honestly why dont you find a beach with MORE surfers. Its not like its not dangerous or anything

  • your right it isnt that dangeorous.

  • i remeber when i was a kid i thought this was the most awsome thing ever, i still want one so bad,

  • They are crazy coool

  • now that looks like alot of fun

  • love the wave jump at 3:25

  • Merci Beaucoup.

  • its wonders never cease -- morcheeba

  • who sings this song cheers

  • Its called "shit song" by the band called " crap music"

  • I'm a mono sailor and THIS is still one of my favorite vids!!

The music suits the attitude of the whole situation. There's always a better way to do anything... but this eximplifiies what cat sailing is all about !

  • OMG! Really cool! Can't wait to buy my hobie..

  • Not really the best wave surfing. The really best way to surf a cat is off shore with some large rolling swells. I have surfed cats in the lineup on some big days. Trapezze insnt the way. can't make bottom turns with someone on the wire and if you really get tubed you have to be able to tack fast so as not to get caught in the shore break. On a fairly big day getting caught in the shore break can get costly. Clearly these guys don't own the boat. Spent alot of time doing this in Fl , Ca and Mex

  • not that they don't own the boat, it's theirs, but those guys are racers, that boats been sponsored, but i see what you're saying

  • listen guys when you can sail like that you are the boss and the surfers were diggin it anyway couldn't you see. I would be stoked to witness sailing like that. besides those waves were for kayakers you should have been surfing the shore break in durban today.

  • Sailing & surfing are two awsome sports, so why not combine them?

  • Comment removed

  • I will make a bet that Hobies have been riding waves for more years than the ages of the surfer dudes that have been commenting on this video.

  • We surfed Hobie 16's at Topanga Point (California) in 1976, up to 10' face waves too!

  • ive read your surfie negativity posts regarding this video enough to prompt me to create an account just so i can reply to them:

1- isnt it a rule in surfing that whoever is on the wave first 'owns' the wave?

if thats the case then i can assure you that the sailors had rights to the wave as they would have caught it way before you surfers could even contemplate it.

2- hobie the brand was actually designed to sail in the surf so this is a video of the modern cat sailing where the brand was born

  • 3- those guys were pros who would have had no issues in avoiding a few surfers here and there

4- like surfing, sailing is about harnessing natural elements and using them to create forward motion and have fun. admittedly, its several echelons higher than surfing in terms of sohistication, but how about trying to see the similarities instead of the differences?

  • Please keep your echelons of sophistication in your YC. Sailors like you may actually give us non elitist sailors a bad name. In any case cats don't really work well on waves. A Megabyte would have been far better a catching those waves. I am sure that if you sail in to the line up with that attitude you will get nice things write on your car in surf wax.

  • The surfers seemed to not mind the sailors but the rules about who has rights to the wave apply to surfers. Sailboats do not really belong with in 150 feet of surfers. I mostly sail but also surf. There are plenty of places that sailboats can catch waves away from the surfers.

  • a bo ty sie k.rwa znasz.

  • What a pair of reckless pricks, is they ocean not big enough for them and their entourage?

  • you obviously don't sail. (or your an old mono kermudgen)

  • WoW great

  • Any skipper who sails where surfers or swimmers might in the water is failing to exercise prudent caution. Prudent caution is fundamental to being captain.

There's enough water for anyone, take it where your are not reckless.

If you aren't mature enough to figure this out, I hope you don't kill anyone. When you do, I hope you rot in jail.

  • here is the song you idiots ;)

    Morcheeba - Wonders Never Cease

  • WHO SANG THIS SONG????????????

  • capsizing in the surf is one of the most stupid things you can do. me and a mate took a laser 2 in to a break and it was all good untill we hit a wave side on and got made piss, we snapped the mast, punctured the jib and lost several fittings, now i owe the club a new mast and jib (they stole my old cherub one, and i work at a sailmakers so the jib wont cost too much) but i still have nightmares about it. and i actualy do im not just saying it

  • all boats esp sailing dinghys should be insured before taking them out on the water - definately your club boat would have been. Just get them to claim it. Serious breakages happen and are covered. Drawing diagrams on the insurance claim form is good fun.

  • Bonsoir,

C'est marie claude de Treffort Voile qui m'a dit de voir cette magnifique vidéo. Mio qui est commencé cet été, je vois que le chemin va être long.

    C'est un vrai régal visuel

    Bravo, vous êtes vraiment fort!!!

  • For ALL the surfers who have a problem with this sailboat get a life, there are plenty of waves to go around, I never have heard of anyone complaining, except for a few wave jockeys who have to say something negative when they see some sailors having fun too. Last time I checked the surfers did not own the ocean. Besides I have gone to aid of others while on the water, you may just need one of those boats some day.

  • french coast, very wild. i live there

  • Anyone know who the song is by ?

  • What a bunch of d-bags.

  • How many accidents/fatalities have occurred between surfers and Hobie's/windsurfers? Why are surfer so worried about the Hobie and windsurfers which are making every effort to avoid them and not the sharks? My money is that there have been move surfer shark fatalities than all others combined.

  • Whats the deal with the surfer dudes? They recently tried to get a law passed in the state of Hawaii that would have banned windsurfing within a certain distance from any surfer. The way the law was written, it would have effectively stopped all windsurfing in the state.

  • Great video. Been sailing Hobie's for the last 26 years, started at age 14. Even though I windsurf and kitesurf now, I will take a 10 to 12 foot day on Lake Michigan with my Hobie 18 any day if I can find a crew. I can't get my windsufing/kitebuddies to return. I guess it was to much for them.

Would love to see another video!

  • Du pur bonheur, la simplicité a l'état pur !

Si quelqu'un peut m'indiquer quelle est la bande son, si bien choisie !

    Bises ventrées.

  • C'sst Morcheeba - Wonders Never Cease.

  • wow, thats great

  • I've sailed hobies my whole life... been surfing but never combined the two!!!! awesome!

  • super video!

  • wonderfull video ;)

  • Morcheeba - Wonders Never Cease

  • forse un giorno sarò temerario come loro!

  • mad video best sailing one on here.

  • can somebody tell me the name of the song/music?

    thanks

  • Did anyone tell the name of the song/artist, i have the same question

  • i just found it in the earlier comments:

    morcheeba-wonders never cease

that was posted a year ago...

  • That was awesome!!!

I'm just learning to sail. I bought a Hobie 16 and having the time of my life!

What an Inspiration. Some Day, I'll do that too.

  • ça à du bastonner sur la plage après....

    bravo!!!belle mentalité ça gâche tout

  • can someone plz interpret the conversation at the end?

  • I have no ideaa ! but the videoo it's fantasticcc !!!

  • one of the guys in the beginning with their boat beached was my sailing coach a couple years back here in the US

he always talked about his catamarans

  • stfu. u think you are hard. frikin poser. how would you stop them in your lineup?

  • every1s a tuff guy behind a computer screen eh. what? u wana pick a fight wit me? have a type off. doe play like u no me boy.

U could go ahead an let other people run ur line up. not me. Have u ever seen someone get run over by a boat? Ive seen it more than once an al do anythin i can to stop somthin like that from happenin again.

  • you probably don't even surf. you're a knee boarder of a spounger. or maybe you are one who wears an "old guys rule" shirt, and stand on the cliff watching the waves for 2 hours drinking coffee before going out for 10 minutes one Sunday each month.

  • Man i live on an island. The sand from the beach touches my front step. Ive been surfn since i was 12. U dont no shit about me kid. I not gona pretend to no u, an come up with some weak attemp to try an dis u like uve atempted to do me. All i can say is go an find some more stuff to fill out ur day.

    one love, bless!

  • dont be hatin' spongers.

  • why fighting??? just enjoy the vid :)

  • fuck off, you can't sail nor surf

  • no i dont sail. but yes i do surf. the reason why i was upset over this vid is because my brother was the person who i was talking about that got run over by the boat. he is only 18 yrs old and its been 2 years since he has walked.

  • superb

    great fun

  • MetropoleWannsee - i know something. may i stay here? ;-D

  • wooww !! so good !!! lol!

  • The song is:

    morcheeba - wonders never cease

  • Sailing with power highest.

    This music is also wonderful.

Could you teach the name of a song?

  • They look pretty experienced to me (12 foot surfcat sailor, 9 times out on the water!)

  • hes right they know what theyre diong its really not dangerous at all....\

    fun as hell tho :-D

  • Not dangerous at all. They no what they are doing.

  • They KNOW what they are doing :)

  • Fuck off, wisenheimer! And by the way, I guess most of you don´t know shit about sailing, so you can fuck off either.

  • i agree its fair dangerous to be doing this around all the surfers (not to mention anoying for the surfers)but fuck it would be fun...hel if i had the money (cause its almost definate something would break)i would fing love to do this, even try it on a cherub or something, though you would probably neew large outriggers(backards mostly) cause they have enough trouble not nose diving as it is

    more challanging, but bigger reward.....

.......BUT FARK IT WOULD BE FUN!!

  • One of the best sailing clips ive ever seen! awsome guys.

  • 1:05 look at him pump!!! :)

  • I will have to admit that the close quarters make it a bit difficult to operate a small craft and, looks somewhat gay however, I would not want to sail anything larger that close to shore in the same situation. I have actually had a hobie 18 SX come crashing down on me during a righting procedure and, they are pretty light weight, nothing really.

  • Are you a surfer?

  • a watermen first! I am atlantic fishermen decent, and can sail, surf, paddel I don't care what your deal is I you don't put another vessel in danger. No matter how small.

  • you little girl those dudes obviously are skilled sailors

  • around. Besides the sailors are not interested in sailing on breaking water or operate in an area with those features. Even though the boat appears to be jumping the wave when heading out they are most likely making as little as ten miles per hour over the ground. One more point, the sailors also have rules they abide by and, are not jackasses or they would never be able to handle the boat in conditions as shown.

  • god i love hobie

  • I had the best sail of my life on a Hobie cat, but there just wasn't enough wind here to really make it exciting.

I had no idea there was an official Nissan Hobie Cat display team.

  • видео супер!!

  • cool

  • awesome jump at 3:32

  • N'importe quoi, faire ça au milieu des surfeurs c'est vraiment pitoyable, surtout que la plage est grande à la torche et qu'ils auraient pu faire ça plus loin.

  • It takes guts, skill and lots of balls to open up a tiger like these guys do, as for the surf board all's fair in love and war.

You got to go for it

  • Someone know the tittle song being played in this song? Really like it!.

  • The song is from 'Morcheeba', called 'Wonders Never Cease' from the album 'Antidote'.

I also like it very much and I am going to buy that album soon!

  • Shud have taken out some of those seals... a surfer pierced by each bow, cool figureheads.

  • nice sound track....

  • ooo... I think I'm jealous :)

  • great video !!!

    thanks for sharing !

  • mate ure just jealous that u couldnt do it! also the surfers would have been told prior to them coming that they were gona do it so it would have been the surfers own falt if they got hit, for taking a risk at going out

  • what? ok.......jealous, not really. surfers would have been told that a boat was coming? what did they announce in to everyone on PA? The surfers own fault for taking a risk of going out? hate to say it, but.....your entire response is just plain silly. oh, and *gona = gonna ; *falt = fault :)

  • How was the sailboat dropping in on anyone?? The boat definitely caught the wave first, which means the surfers were dropping in on the boat.

  • Seems to me I was on the cutting edge of HOBIE CAT racing as I traveled around from Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico sarting in 1974 with Hobie 14 #11914. Too bad there was no sponsorship then.... Damn, just look at how far it has come. I now sail with 8 tons of boat under me but it is still just as exhilerating....This is what life is all about....

  • it s in Britany, in France

    Britany rules!

  • quality. where is that?

  • its in heaven

  • Dickheads, thats really dangerous, and look what happenes if they capsize in the shallow water? SNAP! they break the boat.

  • if they have money to get jetskis and helicopters they probably have the money to buy a new boat so it doesnt matter.
