@fallendecember88 I know what you mean. It's the only stuff that seems to work on my stainless steel sinks without scratching them (Comet would turn them into scrap metal in a matter of months).
I must say that in spite of trying not to laugh at all the innocently over-looked homo-erotic lyrics this is a super fun jaunty jingle. I miss this kind of advertising.
I remember watching this as a three year old. That zooming bottle at the 0:55 mark, that brought you the close up of Mr. Clean's face, scared me and gave me nightmares.
@sarniatownreggae - There were a LOT of creepy advertising characters from the 1950s and 1960s. If I was a 3-year-old, I would have been scared out of my mind by McDonald's Speedee. My parents basically kept me isolated in the boonies until I was 9 - I had never heard of McDonald's (or pizza) until I was 10 in 1974. We went to all of two restaurants - Burger Chef and Gino's (the mid-Atlantic hamburger chain that had exclusive rights to KFC - it was sold out in 1982 and came back in 2010).
The animation looks like it was made about 1959 or 1960 because the cartoon shows the original glass Mr. Clean bottle--but when they zoom in on the "New! Better in the Bucket!" label, it's a plastic bottle from about 1963 or '64 (that's when most household cleaners switched from glass to plastic bottles)...
The date is exactly right on the nose because it's the second commercial that was ever made for Mr. Clean, right after the original 1958 "Cleans You Whole House" commercial had premiered. The only missing link was that there may of been another separate commercial for 1961-1962, before it was again revised in 1963 with the introduction of the plastic bottle, which means that the jingle was used at least through 1960, or perhaps 1961-1962.
Most commercials were filmed in black & white in 1962, 'heine'- it wasn't until about 1965 that Mr. Clean first appeared in color {am I right, 'tcaddone'?}.
This one is from about 1962-1963. My father wrote, produced, directed and wrote the jingle for this one. In 1963 he also did Mr. Clean as a police officer. In 1965 it was "Mean Mr. Clean". All good stuff. Thanks for posting. TC
They might have reuse most of the early Mr. Clean commercial. As the commercial ends, they feature the Mr. Clean bottle which in the late 1960's. Because the Mr. Clean bottle at the end of the commercial was plastic and it says "New! Better in the Bucket! You can smell the difference". When Mr. Clean was introduced in 1958, it came in glass.
Didn't expect to see a commercial from this era showing a husband divvying up the household cleaning evenly with the wife.

Use Mr. Clean...TO WASH THE CAR? I guess somehow P&G had some sort of deal with body shops during that time for new auto paint jobs.

"You're amazing, Mr. C" - Never called Mr. Clean "Mr. C" in later years.

Format Films did the animation? The singing man reminds me of David Seville from the Format Films produced Alvin Show of the 1960's.

There is a "French" version of this for the Canadian market also.

Any pics of Mr. Clean as a police officer (or a Mr. Clean police officer commercial to post on YouTube) around?

I only have these on video. I am getting them transfered to DVD. I should be able to download onto YouTube then.
