  • the 838 biphonic stereo expand...wow amazing

  • The first ever high powered boombox I was to first encounter in Mannheim Germany back in 1978! I've been hooked every since!

  • AHH Yes, the JVC BI-Phonic model 838. Owned it decades ago. It sounded best on stereo, had an "expanded" sound feature that would cut out some of the bass. The Bi-Phonic feature cut out all of the bass. Switched to the JVC M71.

  • Your radio is in great shape. Mine is in need of an internal overhaul since it hasn't been treated nicely. Was my first major purchase as a teen, and the radio refuses to die.

  • thats 1978 right there. It's a must own as it is the god father of ghetto blasters since it is pre-80's.

  • lmao i remember these

  • That is the RC838jw model. I have one, and it is a great looker, with outstanding reception and tuner sensitivity.........But it has no bass.

  • What model is it ?

  • i love it but get some 80s songs that

  • I have that exact same one! I got mine at a thrift store. needs a little repair though

  • why are these units all called ghetto blasters?? Im black and ive rarely seen these in the ghetto,,, I seem to find them frequently in white peoples garage sales LOL

  • How old are you? Those units were popular on black neighborhoods and were used for street dancing or just plain entertainment.I used too own a box like this one.how many stereos these days can hook up speakers, turntable, and another cassette?

  • @Dreambro1 it's the definition of a BoomBox = ghetto blaster.
