AHH Yes, the JVC BI-Phonic model 838. Owned it decades ago. It sounded best on stereo, had an "expanded" sound feature that would cut out some of the bass. The Bi-Phonic feature cut out all of the bass. Switched to the JVC M71.
Your radio is in great shape. Mine is in need of an internal overhaul since it hasn't been treated nicely. Was my first major purchase as a teen, and the radio refuses to die.
why are these units all called ghetto blasters?? Im black and ive rarely seen these in the ghetto,,, I seem to find them frequently in white peoples garage sales LOL
How old are you? Those units were popular on black neighborhoods and were used for street dancing or just plain entertainment.I used too own a box like this one.how many stereos these days can hook up speakers, turntable, and another cassette?

The first ever high powered boombox I was to first encounter in Mannheim Germany back in 1978! I've been hooked every since!

thats 1978 right there. It's a must own as it is the god father of ghetto blasters since it is pre-80's.

That is the RC838jw model. I have one, and it is a great looker, with outstanding reception and tuner sensitivity.........But it has no bass.
