I think he's playing on an Eb tin whistle rather than a normal Bb flat like it was orginally written in because he does open a lot and all of the A's in the song are supposed to be Ab. Plus it looks too short to be a Bb one.

I agree that there are concert violinists that are technically superior to Andre Rieu, but as a showman there are few that are better. He plays to his audience and they love him. He plays the music that the people want to hear, and he does a very good job at it as evidenced by the audiences' enthusiasm. Let's just enjoy a man doing what he does and doing it well, entertaining people and having a good time.
