My favorite PJ song except for Black. This is some extremely emotional stuff that I don't want to decipher, just to enjoy. It's mellow and great! Listen to the music and the lyrics. Enjoy!
@javierbds For some reason I always felt this song is about Neil Young, but they say Eddie sings about himself. If you watch the video when Eddie made a speech for Neil at the rock and roll halls of fame, this is the song under that, and Neil speaks about Kurt Cobain after Eddie's speech you'll feel as I feel always when I listen to this awesome song
Know a man His face seemed pulled and tense Like he's ridin' on a motorbike In the strongest winds So i approach with tact Suggest that he should relax But he's always movin' much too fast Said he'll see me on the flip side On this trip he's taken for a ride He's been takin' too much on There he goes with his perfectly unkept hope There he goes
I agree Dethmag Real lyrics something all music lacks these days.what the hell has happened to music.the media has no sense of music knowledge these days.
Of all the songs in the world i like (and there are alot) this is without a doubt my favorite. The lyrics, the guitars, his voice, everything about it.
to Scott c Robinson in Norwich, Connecticut. New dirt and no head stone when I visited you last time, but I will visit you, my friend! I will have a couple of Molson Ice with you Like we always did, my same old, same old friend...... Nothing's changed but the surroundin' bullshit. That's for sure!
OMG thats devastating, I'm truely sorry 2hear about the loss of your brother, god rest his soul. Its a shame how the environmental protection agency lied to the citizens of New York city by informing them that the air quality was indeed safe, only 2 days after 9/11.
Perception is governments number one weapon.(only way 2 control the masses)Sadly, there are 71,000 people that are listed in new york city's department of health's database for exposure to debris @ground0
I enjoy thinking of music/songs/lyrics and what they represent and relate in my life...This song reminds me of my 41 yr old brother who I lost last year to Luekemia (He cleaned up ground zero for 5 weeks)..He struggled and fought but lost...He died round 10 o'clock and I got a call from my brother that "He's off..." on his way to Heaven...My brother turned me onto Pearl Jam and this song ultimately puts a smile on my face with thoughts about him, can't wait to see him when 1 day "Off I go...."

Thanks for the comments and the stats are quite sobering..The govt likes to promote fear so as to make it easier to control the masses. The worst part is the obstacles the state and Federal govts put in front of these sick workers in order to receive proper care. Some of these people are getting devastatingly sick then fired from their jobs for "lack or performance"!!?! It's embarrassing and shameful that my sis-in-law was informed she and her kids no longer had insurance minutes after his death.
a very close friend, who introduced this song to me, passed away last month...... i don't know how many times i listen to this song and keep thinking of him. i feel i totally know what you are talking about......
Chilling isn't it..how outside events can change a song and it's lyrics for you...Bono is the all time king of those types of songs and lyrics...beauty in ambiguity...
Wow,..I'm glad pearl jam is there to make ya feel a little better,.and i'm sure u have good memories when you hear pearl jam..Kinda a personal question,.but was lukemia linked to 911?..Like tool97 said,.the goverment is full of shit,..Of course the air quality was disasterous,.Guliani had a mask on?.Well rock on,sorry for your loss,.but atleast oyu find comfort in ed's lyric's...
Thanks for the comments and support...and yes, luekemia and a host of other illnesses are devastating the 9/11 workers and cleanup crews. My brother was a NYC Carpenter and was ordered along with thousands of other "city" employess includin iron workers, electricians, sanitation workers and the like to go down and clean it up. They did so, and now they are dropping like flies and our govt didn't want to do shit for my brother, nor do they wanna do anything now for his widowed wife or 3 kids.Sux
This song always seems to remind me of the blind melon song, mouth full of cavaties. The music itself is quite different although the lyrics are pretty similar, on how both Hoon and Vedder wrote a song expressing their feelings about their friend(or they truely singing about themselves??). Just my opinion (obviously) but I think that both of them were definitely 2 of the best front men in the 90's. Unfortunately, only Vedder continues to run with the torch.
knew a man. off he went with his perfectly unkept hope. wish i had replied: "i love you, too." last thing he said to me was: "i love you, brother." rub my eyes. hope he will return. and we are laughing. like we did. my old, old friend......
not to be pedantic, but jesus is the Son of the Father, who together with the Holy Spirit make one God. i am not a Christian, but just thought i'd clear upp Jesus' position for you.
Yes, but still a friend. We all have them or are them at one point or another...and PJ captures it like a mother effer in this song. These fellas craft some amazing shit. Love them.
