  • 5 people couldn't realise that gods live on this planet not in the heaven

  • That part at 2:03, Play that on your bass along with the video. The feeling is indescribable!

  • This is so awesome. I love his sound and punch. I'm taking his #3 lesson on his technique.

  • Just some info a bass player provided on talkbass.com: I've seen Louis when he played with Billy Preston. He was 17 years old at the time. He was a good bassplayer then and was NOT thumpin and poppin at the time. He had taken the place of...Keni Burke who WAS thumpin and poppin at that time! Keni had moved from Chicago to L.A. to be around his friend Larry Graham.

  • This is a very good bass player but it isn't louis johnson you can lots of influence of mark king and louis but it isn't louis. Louis ha a diffrent kinda groove

  • @SUBARUDOO Dude, there is a training video up on here, and Louis plays the same licks in this that he does in the training video.

  • @SUBARUDOO This is 100% Louis Johnson, believe me... I follow this guy since the 70's. Seen him play this solo back in 1981 in Holland.

  • @Edalrela

I glad you saw it I was on this hit, playing sax in the horn section, it was off the Hook...!

  • that drummer is kicking ass

  • that's a bad mother.....shut yo mouth

  • Louis johnson is one crazy motherfucker

  • lord God almighty, louis johnson is the funk master. awesome influence.

  • Alex Webster etc. have no feelings when they play. They just have to play it fast cuz,

it´s deathmetal. Look Cliff up on Orion. He can play both fast and with feelings. And by the way. Alex Webster is inspired by Cliff Burton.

  • LORD TONIGHT :)

  • 2:05 is the most funky shit i have EVER heard:| talk about epic!!

  • its amazing how much this solo is like on of primus his solos.. i guess primus really digged mr johnson:P

  • Brother Louis Johnson is the baddest of his era. Props to all bassists too.

  • Love you Louis!

  • Louis OWNS Flea!

  • Seeing kids, this is how you solo... not sloppy over-distorted Cliff Burton shit...

  • @Steve128967 Man, with all the respect...

    GO FUCK YOURSELF!

Cliff Burton is the king, you can't get much better than that. And there are different styles. You can't compare both. Respect his style, because he was really good at it, as metalheads respect Louis, because his good in what he does.

  • @FriedChickenofDeath6 Tell me in what ways Cliff is good.

  • @Steve128967 Man, different styles. He shaped the pick-style of playing bass. He was the first to make solos at Heavy Metal. He was also a great composer and lyricist. He was good at what he did, but if you compare him with Louis considering the slapping techniche, obviously he will lose. As if you compare Louis with Cliff considering the distorted style, Louis will lose.

  • @FriedChickenofDeath6 Cliff didn't play with a pick, he didn't write lyrics and he wasn't really anything special as a composer, the only thing that he came up with most of was Orion and To Live is To Die (excluding Anesthesia, which is a mess)

I didn't mean to compare Cliff to Louis but obviously Louis is better considering he can actually play on time and without mistakes, whereas even in the recordings Cliff was REALLY sloppy-- and his "solos" were just shit pentatonic guitar solos, at best.

  • @Steve128967 Well, opinion is opinion...

  • @Steve128967 You can´t compare these two in any way.! They are both the best at what they do.

  • @1StTubeYou Burton is nowhere the best, at anything.

  • @Steve128967 best metal basist?

  • @1StTubeYou No, not even close... Roger Patterson, Doug Keyser, Pete Perez, Sean Malone, Steve DiGiorgio, Alex Webster, Lars Norberg, Erik Tiwaz, Jeroen Thesseling or Forest Lapointe. Look them up.

  • these guys were phenominal jammers. toward the end you notice that the drummer changes his time to follow louis. amazing!

  • jaw dropped

  • bass and drums only...fuck! its great!!

  • @dmap17 drum and bass? lol

  • this kind of talent was too good for disco days, thats why we hated disco hijacking the funky music genre and making it bubblegum

  • OMFG and I used to think Steve Harris was the best...

  • haha steve harris

  • As a metal bassist he's one of the best, but metal bassists usually don't do the instrument justice.

  • Double-funky.

  • Louis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson! Yes!! One of the best EVAH!!

  • where can i get some tab for this

  • this is some real feel...

  • Louis Johnson is GOD!

  • These were the days when musicians were rediculously skilled and homely as hell -- and the ladies loved them.

Now we have synthasized models calling themselves musician.

  • LOVE it

  • Stop mentioning race, you assholes

  • OMG, I can't just spend one week without listening to this crazy song..! Louis Johnson Rocks!

  • who IS that drummer? i am sure of one thing, black guys have been teaching white guys what was worth knowing in american music for 150 years. maybe recognizing social injustice empowers the imagination.

  • Comment removed

  • werd. there are funky whites yellows and browns 2. But im white and can freely acknowledge that blacks have brought the funk for decades! and most funky white guys have bit their style or collaborated with them.

  • @Clampz123 ohhh yeaa blacks mastered the blues, funk, and soul.

  • @337camo and jazz fusion

  • @Clampz123 i'm a white guy, and i'm sorry, blacks command the funk feel and groove on the thudstaff!. few a white guy comes around w/ a smooth, thick, meat and potatoes funk drive like this!

  • Certainly stinky, funky stuff...

  • the origanator is LARRY GRAM get it right

  • Whomever gave the thumbs down about the bblk4 comment hasn't got a clue.

bblk4u is correct. Larry was doin this shit with Sly in the late 60's. PEACE

  • This goes to show you that you have to go back in time to hear the best stuff. Because you ain't gonna find it today....That's for damn sure.

  • Regardless who originated this, this 'ole white boy digs this stuff! Very nice... Much better than hearing the garden variety of crap they call "hip hop" or rap. This nice and delightful!

  • Never heard a solo bass performance like this!!!

  • You can copy and improve allright, but... this guy's the ORIGINATOR!!

  • This old school bassplaying is groovy en funky. No one can play this as good as Louis did. This solo is more than 25 years old btw.. I like a lot of bassplayers, but Louis is still my favorite...

  • The Funk Master! Many new guys with super techniques, but the feel here is the real deal!

  • hey can someone tell me the name of the song so i can get a tab?thanks

  • No songname, this is just a solo of him.

  • is their a tab of this anywhere so,eone please tell me .thanks

  • this is amazing but you should all check out Mark king!!! fucking incredible stuff

  • Are you joking??? Flea is amazing, but Louis Johnson was an originator of slap bass and a legendary funk icon. He played on Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall" record for christ's sake. Flea took a lot from Louis and of course the infamous Larry Graham, also known for inventing slap stylee.

  • in several interviews flea says that louis was one of his largest inspirations. he emulated him greatly

  • Check out the Red Hot Chili Peppers there bass player Flea is as Awesome or maybe even better than these people. I would recomend typing in Stone Cold Bush Bass Solo, or Yertle the Turtle, Flea bass popping and Slapping maddness is pretty good to.

  • skinney sweaty man, get up and jump, and right on time ( more finger madness but good slapping)

  • I see why they call this cat "Thunder Thumbs"

  • His Musicman bass sounds perfect!!

  • That Mucicman StingRay was designed for Louis by Leo Fender himself.

  • Sorry....DUH,Musicman

  • It wasnt designed specifically for Louis but he was probablt the first "name" player to use one.

  • He had a hand in designing it. Seriously.

  • I'm not sure.

I know Leo had the idea for louis to promote the Stingray, so there is a possibility that he was involved in the ideas stage....

  • you sure he doesn't have a custom built model? im not saying your wrong, im just not sure, lol. get back to me if you find out.

  • That's like the Landover concert but 10 times better. You can tell it was a smaller audience that he could connect with. Man that's all soul.

  • du u have the tabs for this?

  • louis

  • Fuckin' amazing!
