It doesn't matter who's better. The only thing that does matter is whether their music is good, and both Joe and Slash make wonderful music. The only sad thing is that more people don't know about Joe. Slash is the Icon, but Joe is more like a secret god.

pheeew, all those people who try to figure out who is the best, Slash or Joe Satriana. There are so many good guitarists that you can't just say "he's the best". They all are playing their own style. Like Slash is playing pretty simple solo's with much feeling and swing in it, Zakk Wylde is shredding like hell, or Eddie Van Halen is playing 10 minutes of Eruption. They all have proven that they can play, and they all are great. Just find out for yourself whose style or guitarist you like best ;)

This is really nice of Joe to play rhythm for Slash.
Two of my favorite guitar heroes (and my one true Guitar God in Satriani) on one stage doing possibly the greatest hard rock song of all time. Man, I would have loved to have been there!
Slash has written some of the best songs ever. Satriani is obviously more technically skilled. But. Slash has managed to redifine the guitar to the point where thousands of kids or starting to play just because of him. Both are great but you dont need to be a virtuoso to be good so stop arguing about it.
You're all wrong! They're playing is completely different! Slash uses Minor and Blues Pentatonic, and Joe use Major, Blues and a small amount of minor pentatonic. It's like trying to compare a Fender's tone and sound and a SG's tone and sound. THEY'RE BOTH SUPER DIFFERENT! Slash can hold his own and so can Joe.

Since your a beginner , i would start by listening to yngwie malmsteen . He's an amazing influence for guitarists wanting to take that extra step.
Even guys like Tony macalpine and marco sfogli are worth a listen.

It comes down to one word. Professionalism. Slash was the featured guitar player for this song. Joe was playing fill in and back up. If the call was for Joe to be the feature and Slash to play fill in and back up Slash would be rocking out some power chords and fills.

pheeew, all those people who try to figure out who is the best, Slash or Joe Satriana. There are so many good guitarists that you can't just say "he's the best". They all are playing their own style. Like Slash is playing pretty simple solo's with much feeling and swing in it, Zakk Wylde is shredding like hell, or Eddie Van Halen is playing 10 minutes of Eruption. They all have proven that they can play, and they all are great. Just find out for yourself whose style or guitarist you like best ;)

This is really nice of Joe to play rhythm for Slash.
Two of my favorite guitar heroes (and my one true Guitar God in Satriani) on one stage doing possibly the greatest hard rock song of all time. Man, I would have loved to have been there!

Slash has written some of the best songs ever. Satriani is obviously more technically skilled. But. Slash has managed to redifine the guitar to the point where thousands of kids or starting to play just because of him. Both are great but you dont need to be a virtuoso to be good so stop arguing about it.

You're all wrong! They're playing is completely different! Slash uses Minor and Blues Pentatonic, and Joe use Major, Blues and a small amount of minor pentatonic. It's like trying to compare a Fender's tone and sound and a SG's tone and sound. THEY'RE BOTH SUPER DIFFERENT! Slash can hold his own and so can Joe.

Since your a beginner , i would start by listening to yngwie malmsteen . He's an amazing influence for guitarists wanting to take that extra step.
Even guys like Tony macalpine and marco sfogli are worth a listen.

Try playing Greg Howe , Vinnie moore, and guthrie govan solos. It doesn't hurt to listen , just type in any of their names on the search box and if you still think slash is the best then thats your opinion.
But honestly hes a mediocore guitar player , equivalent to a person who practiced everyday for 4 years.

Slash sucks. End of story. That wasn't much of a solo in my opinion. And for those of you who think slash rocks, obiously haven't played guitar for more than 6 months. What pisses me off is how people are saying Satriani is just technique while slash plays with emotion. Just because you know your pentatonic scale and are capable of holding bend notes for like 5 minutes while making stupid faces doesn't mean your playing with emotion. Listen to Guthrie Govan now hes a guitarist

It comes down to one word. Professionalism. Slash was the featured guitar player for this song. Joe was playing fill in and back up. If the call was for Joe to be the feature and Slash to play fill in and back up Slash would be rocking out some power chords and fills.

pesonaly I like slashes sound much better the n joe's but joe is way more technical and I do like his sound as well but I'm a fan of warmer tones. but without jimmy page these guy may have been differnet guitarist both were influenced by him. led zeppelin in general was the definitive hard rock band.

Stop arguing! In this video Joe is holding it back and letting Slash shine, it's really obvious that he has a lot of respect for Slash. I see people saying Slash destroyed Joe in this video etc etc. Don't make me laugh, if you know anything about Joe, he just has so much restraint he never tries to outplay any other guitarist on stage with him - he's just that cool - he has absolutely nothing to prove to anyone. He chooses not to flash but boy if he ever decided to, Slash has no chance, sorry.

There's a huge thing you forgot to mention which is song writing, Guns N Roses had way better guitar then Satriani, the sales prove that point true. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Satriani obviously has a lot of respect for Slash because a video of him giving lessons on here he has a Guns N Roses shirt on. Just because Slash doesn't play super technical doesn't mean he can't play. Other wise I guess Michael Batio is the best guitarist.( you couldn't pay me to listen Batio for more then 2 minutes.)
