  • "machine gun - for Steven Fry's use only"

    Yeah I'd buy that :)

  • the Sturmgewehr 44 looks rather like a kalashnikov, the Sturmgewehr 44 must have had a profound influence on weaponary.

  • Does anybody know how much the turn of the pipe would affect velocity and accuracy of the rifle? My initial thought would be that it must have been almost useless over anything but a very short distance?

  • Stephen Fry just used Urban Dictionary as a reference. Can I use it my school papers now?

  • I thought the first assault rifle was made by a *KLINGON*

  • i wish i was on this episode as i know so much about these firarmes

  • Well the fear of gun can't in fact be called irrational because they are in fact to be feared. An irrational fear is based solely on emotions like the fear of open spaces or the fear of fish, but surprisingly enough people that have survived being shot will confirm that guns are in fact to be feared,

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife I Think the fact it can blow your brain out the back of your head is reason enough to fear them.

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife If you fear inanimate objects then something is wrong with you. No gun has ever killed anyone. It's humans who do the killing. Whether through the use of firearms, explosives, knives, sticks, rocks, etc...

  • @preemptivestrike20 You must be fucking retarded. No gun has ever killed someone..LOL.. Are you fucking kidding us with that shit. yeah and landmines they're just misunderstood right, those poor things..

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife Wait a second. You think that a gun woke up one morning and decided that it would kill someone? So in that case spoons make us fat and vehicles are murderers as well. You're a fucking idiot and people in your category should learn to stfu so as not to appear dumber than you already are.

  • @preemptivestrike20 Actually there's lots of cases where people have been killed by guns without other humans involved.. that's why you're a fucking idiot

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife

Which cases? When. Where. I've never heard of a gun spontaeneously go off - if you mean someone accidentally/deliberately shooting themselves - thats still human involvement (even people doing things like dropping a Sten gun and it then going off)

  • @GNRGC it's because you're a fucking retarded idiot...there are many reported cases of military M16/M4 DI weapons spontaneously cooking off a round and even wounding someone..

    you're a moron... a fucking idiot...

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife

whats the problem in making that point without swearing and abuse. I've never anyway heard of it happen in the British Army with SLRs (when in use) or SA80s

  • @GNRGC So when you're confronted with reality proving you're an idiot you completely ignore that and continue on your retarded ways...

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife

Looking at the US Army manual on the M16 it says "Firing 140 rounds, rapidly and continuously, will raise the temperature of the barrel to the COOKOFF POINT. At this temperature, any live round remaining in the chamber for any reason may cook off (detonate) in as short a period as 10 seconds". So yes cooking off is possible - but only after someone has fired quite a lot of rounds

  • The British SLR etc is a single shot weapon which is what I have carried so hence why cooking off would be rare in the British Army, as you woudl have to go some to fire 120+ rounds through it at a single rate

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife Buildings also collapse, they must also be murderers. Quick ban buildings! You are a funny person and I have pity for you. Enjoy your life, pussy. Bye bye! :)

  • @preemptivestrike20 you're an idiot

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife Go play with your rodent and leave me alone pussy.

  • @preemptivestrike20 God I hope you don't breed....

  • @Raznor83 How do you think you got here.

  • @preemptivestrike20 Quickly looked at your profile and saw you're an American, so now I feel obliged to explain myself. Your point about buildings is flawed, because buildings aren't designed to kill people, unlike weapons. You could have just as easily said: apples kill people, because we can choke on them, we should ban all apples.

  • @Raznor83 Take a look at any fortress and you will see how flawed your argument is. An object's purpose depends on the human being employing it.

  • @preemptivestrike20 dude are you serious? one of the main things developers look at is how and what for it's going to be used. Using an object in a way that it's not intended often leads to art or nice fail vids on youtube. Anyway you can't deny guns are designed and used to kill people. There are indeed products with a lot of purposes, but guns aren't among them.

  • @Raznor83 Killing is necessary for survival. How do you think the chicken on your plate got there? How do you think innocent people survive attacks by violent aggressors? How do you think the Nazis were beat? Grow up will you. You'll never get rid of the gun because killing is ingrained in human nature. And as long as the bad guys have them, the good guys must as well. And since you're not from the US, I'd appreciate if you didn't involve yourself in our politics or debate over our Constitution.

  • @preemptivestrike20 Well the US seems quite happy to involve itself in others politics.

  • @preemptivestrike20 Erm I work at a farm, but I don't kill chickens with a gun ;-), we usually use a hatchet. Growing up has nothing to do with being either for or against guns. I'm not involving myself in your politics, do whatever you like. I just wanted to point out to you that your first argument made no sense (comparing buildings to firearms), that was all.

  • wait urban dictionary i love it i am going to look it up

  • I shouted out assault rifle before the guy in the audience! How sad am I?!

  • Seriously .. why are all you internet geeks bitching about who won ww2 and why ? Do you not get that nobody actually cares about you and are more interested in the video posted then your failed knowledge on a 70+ year old subject . Grow up and just enjoy the video, stop ruining it for the rest of the people.

  • If any one person is to go on a killing spree with a ST44, it should be Steven Fry.

  • @Unwarranted yeah, he brutally massacres stephanie meyers and dan brown for creating twilight and the da vinci ciode, the latter he hates in particular

  • Thanks to C.O.D I knew that 'Gewehr' was German for rifle.

  • can you upload whole episodes?

  • "gave them a spanking"? you kidding me the germans raped the brits in wwii, if it wasnt for the usa they woulda been screwed

  • @lsisoccer5 Russia sort of helped too if you think about it. Kind of helped a little bit.

  • @1CONK1 yea but honestly they lucked out lol, we all did, b,c hitler was a moron and didnt listen to his generals, but yea russia did help a lot, a lot a lot haha

  • @lsisoccer5 While the US was making a profit out of the War over the British and French munitions contracts, the whole British empire was fighting for dear life against the combined forces of Germany and Italy. And for your information, the British contribution in the European Theatre was always equal, if not higher measured in brigades in contact with the enemy, until a week after DDay, in 1944. Yes, the US helped but the war began in 1939. So Jerry did get a good, royal British spanking.

  • @njdevil281

You are sadly mistaken. The US leased Britain arms, ammunition, tanks, planes, ships, fuel oil and other supplies.

  • @AnonRanGER01 Much of which was never paid back for and all of which was sold at below market value. The US had the highest deficit in its history during WWII.

  • @njdevil281

    I stand corrected.

  • @Delacroixet And before you get even more emotional you would do well to remember that it was Britain that declared war on Germany. The US had the common sense to prepare first.

  • @njdevil281 @Delacroixet

... when two ignoramuses meet on the net...

    1) US consciously avoided active participation in WWII as part of their isolationist politics of the time. Pearl Harbour forced their entry.

    2) "Royal British spanking"? The 'Jerries' had to be wrung down inch for inch across every conceivable front across the whole of Europe & central Northern Africa over 6 years. No other army proved so efficient & effective.

Good that D-Day succeeded... bloody, horrific but a spanking?

  • @njdevil281 Is that the excuse over there nowadays?

  • @blackvapour It is not an excuse when it is true little boy.

  • @Delacroixet @njdevil281

  • @mctabla Well, the US kinda did everything possible to get the Japanese to attack but yeah, agreed.

  • @mctabla Well, the US kinda did everything possible to get the Japanese to attack but yeah, agreed.

  • now why isn't that an attachment on call of duty o.0

  • i love ross noble

  • irrational fear of weapons...?

  • "The core problem of being a sissy". YES. So true.

  • Whoa whoa whoa...Jack Dee just SMILED! An OFFICIAL grin from the miserly comedian! Hell's temperature just dropped by a few degrees

  • Stephen Fry (whilst holding a machine gun/very valuable museum piece): "...it's going to spend the night in the Tower of London tonight..."

Thank you for reminding me how awesome our country can be when it tries.

  • Come the day...

  • "The first assault rifle there ever was." *KLAXON* It was the first assault rifle to enter regular service in any kind of numbers (although it was still quite rare). The Fedorov avtomat was an abortive Russian attempt at an assault rifle from 1915, although it eventually became a battle rifle, firing a full-sized rifle round instead of an intermediate-sized one, and its mechanical complexity made it unpopular. Before that, several other prototypes were developed, but none of them went anywhere.

  • @Strategiain

thank you for taking your time writing this - it's quite interesting :D

  • @Akfilm92 No its not xD

  • @Strategiain You're that bloke that said assault rifle in the audience, aren't you?

  • @Strategiain Also look up the Ribeyrolle 1918, if you haven't heard of it before.

  • @Strategiain

And also, if you (like me) like to be anal about such things, the Sturmgewehr was given the title storm rifle, not assault rifle. Anyway, back to trying to have a life.....
