The same can be said of North America. The Yukon Territory and Alaska--and Newfoundland--have become too tame. I traveled there in the '70's when it was a real adventure. Coming back in the '80's and '90's, the adventure was pretty well gone.
Slim Dusty was a true blue until the day until he died and even so in death. I may just be a farmer, but I still feel the heat on my back, driving my grandfather's old Ute and finishing the day with a cold beer. I honestly feel sorry for any person who can't experience this lifestyle.
Lived in Derby worked for MRD built the bloody roads up to darwin and across the roebuck in the days when the bush was the bush and hardly saw a sealed road unless we made it LOL
i was never a slim dusty fan.....i am only 22....but looking for songs to make a slide show for my pop's 70th birthday i came across this song, and i love it, makes me so damn proud to be australian
Outback is a Life and..... i love this way and life... and ...this is Australia and Adventure.... it`s really life.... is not true? MOUNT ISA....!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Suuppppeeeerrrr !!!
ya cant live in the bush without a 4wd. blackfellas have proven that with the countless valiants and fords theyve left on tracks all over the country. 2wd will get you to most places on graded roads, and thats it. as for the b&s mob most of them are sheep and grain cockeys, there bush bashing is thru a stubble paddock. were talking bush here not wheat belt country.
Toyota reliability accounts for the Landcruiser's popularity more than the 4X4 drivetrain. Notice how there are no LandROVERS out there?
A neighbour of ours bought a rural property back in the early 70s and a new Landrover to go with it. After busting 2 rear ends he sold it & bought a new Holden Premier wagon 5.0 V8 auto with LSD. It went everywhere the Landrover went and never broke anything.
slim dusty had an old purple ford and he travelled over 900,000 miles through the outback when he was touring, now u tell me , wats the need of a 4wd when he used a ford fairlane?
@MackvsKenworth true but i doubt a modern fairlaine could do it also a vw beetle i would trust as well my uncle drove one in the outback for 6 years without a fail or breakdown. Love slim Dusty great music im 22 seen him twice once in 94 in fremantle the other in 97 in mandurah both with my pop. also i would really love to visit the outback i used to live in a small country town i loved it now i live in fremantle still love the bush.
Slim did 900,000 klms (at least a third of that on outback tracks, creeks etc) in 'Old Purple'.......a 2WD Fairlane!! If you'd told him he needed a Landcruiser, he'd have pissed himself laughing.
There's a whole generation of old bushies that wouldn't drive anything but Peugeots! I mean REAL ones like 203s, 404s, 504s etc. My uncle AND my 6th grade teacher where ones.
Diane, this song is about Australia, but in a way it also describes what has happened to the Yukon since 1970.

fuckn oath, they're the reasons they're thinking about placing restrictions on 4wds and banning bull bars and all that RTA enforced bull shit

yer but they do make it easier

With their 2.5 metric tons chewing through brakes, bushes, suspension and $250+ tires, a good, tough 2WD with a LSD makes more sense.
Look at most B&S Balls...........2WD utes rule!!

kingswoods are good, but i couldn't see them pushing through the sand hills in the little desert through a dry summer

True, but in the 'fair dinkum' department how ften do you need to do that. 99.9% of the time it's dirt tracks or paddocks.
bigbadnewman 2 years ago
yer dont need 4wds for paddocks and the rest
