Driving a car is a form of big government. They flood us with regulations, ie) dictate how fast we drive. paint lines all over the road. set mandatory speed limits. traffic lights. driver license requirements.
In a free society these barriers should be removed and people able drive how they feel. Rural India is a great example of free market driving. No lines, speed limits, cross walks, or license requirements.

Why doesn't it say that they provide high quality public education and universal health care? @luizcadu scandinavia is reducing the amount of government they currently have. ever heard of the collapse of the 1990s? sweden is the main example they developed the so called big government or welfare system in the 70s but with inherited wealth. the result was the creation of a bubble and after it burst unemployment skyrocketed and large welfare payments were being issued. the result was inflation with a 500% interest to protect the currency.
and instead of expanding government, sweden has been cutting more government spending and trying to revert to its more free market form. while at the same time slowly dismantling their welfare system.

As a US citizen I see our federal government trying to run programs they should not be involved in at all. @Valorious72 There is a very important distinction between rights to life, liberty, and property (negative rights) and rights to tangible goods & services (healthcare, housing, etc.). The "advances" you advocate were actually negations of rights such as inequalities relating to race or gender as well as current negations like regulation of marriage). Tangible rights do not exist because they must take away the rights of others and reallocate "rights" - therefore institutionalizing inequality.

People need to understand that our government is an illusion and is not what runs the show. The corporate and financial powers are the ones pulling the strings of the puppet we know as government. The concept of a large public based entity is only bad if there is not a large private or foreign entity to justify it. There are few foreign problems that cannot be tackled by the private entities, therefore, a strong public entity must exist to protect the working and middle class from these large private entities or corporations. Big government as it stands now is an issue, but a big government is a necessity as long as there exist large corporations that threaten the lower classes.
The problem I see with the position of big government is that they rarely tend to also highlight the issue of large corporations, which can big as big of an issue as big government. Obviously, our capitalist society doesn't want to prevent large corporations, it where we want to be, but without an interveneing and unilateral force to challenge these corporations, the corporations can and will become a worst issue for people than big government, but we likely won't notice it.
Neither the corporations nor the government should be able to exert unilateral control over each other, but instead be able to exist in a way where compromise can be meant to suit the needs of the corporations at the minimal expense of the lower classes. The US constitution as it stands now is unable to do this. It was designed with government powers in mind and not corporate powers, it must be changed to work with the capitalist world. No entity should be able to exert unchallenge powers.
Big government must exist to act as the voice of the people who can prevent large corporations from exerting control over the lower classes. Unfortunately, the United States government in its current for is unable to act as the big government needed to protect people from corporations and bring a balance to power.
It must be reformed to recognize the role and power of corporations but with its own power to protect the people from them. A balance of powers must be maintained.
Large corporations can be just as big government if either one existed without the other. Large corporations can exploit and control the working and middle class, presenting the illsuion of chose and freedom when in fact large corporations control the means of these classes from recognizing or being able to challenge the power of the large corporations. An entity must exist to prevent the large corporations from exerting unilateral control over the classes beneath them.
Government needs to grow large to be in balance to the growth of corporations. The larger corporations become, the larger government must be to act as the voice of protecting the people from the tyranny that can come from big corporations. Competition has shown not to be effective against controlling corporations for corporations will begin to ally themselves with each other, creating the illusion of compeition and preventing newer true competition from new industry and small businesses.

Driving a car is a form of big government. They flood us with regulations, ie) dictate how fast we drive. paint lines all over the road. set mandatory speed limits. traffic lights. driver license requirements.
In a free society these barriers should be removed and people able drive how they feel. Rural India is a great example of free market driving. No lines, speed limits, cross walks, or license requirements.
Yeah, maybe a few goats and people get hit, but thats the cost of freedom.

The video says Scadinavian countries pay a tax rate of 50% of their GDP. Why doesn't it say that these countries are among the top on the HDI ranking? Why doesn't it say that they provide high quality public education and universal health care? Why doesn't it say that it hasn't destroyed the private entrepeneurship, and these countries are among the freest economies in the world?

As a US citizen I see our federal government trying to run programs they should not be involved in at all. Lincoln did not rid us of slaves, but he did tyrannically violate fundamental liberties. @Valorious72 There is a very important distinction between rights to life, liberty, and property (negative rights) and rights to tangible goods & services (healthcare, housing, etc.). The "advances" you advocate were actually negations of rights such as inequalities relating to race or gender as well as current negations like regulation of marriage). Tangible rights do not exist because they must take away the rights of others and reallocate "rights" - therefore institutionalizing inequality.

The concept of a large public based entity is only bad if there is not a large private or foreign entity to justify it. There are few foreign problems that cannot be tackled by the private entities, therefore, a strong public entity must exist to protect the working and middle class from these large private entities or corporations. Big government as it stands now is an issue, but a big government is a necessity as long as there exist large corporations that threaten the lower classes.

The problem I see with the position of big government is that they rarely tend to also highlight the issue of large corporations, which can big as big of an issue as big government. Obviously, our capitalist society doesn't want to prevent large corporations, it where we want to be, but without an interveneing and unilateral force to challenge these corporations, the corporations can and will become a worst issue for people than big government, but we likely won't notice it.

Neither the corporations nor the government should be able to exert unilateral control over each other, but instead be able to exist in a way where compromise can be meant to suit the needs of the corporations at the minimal expense of the lower classes. The US constitution as it stands now is unable to do this. It was designed with government powers in mind and not corporate powers, it must be changed to work with the capitalist world. No entity should be able to exert unchallenge powers.

Large corporations can exploit and control the working and middle class, presenting the illsuion of chose and freedom when in fact large corporations control the means of these classes from recognizing or being able to challenge the power of the large corporations. The larger corporations become, the larger government must be to act as the voice of protecting the people from the tyranny that can come from big corporations. Theory Z, or Japanese corporations have a mutual loyalty to their employees, US used to have corporations that were similar to this but know they're dead and only some small businesses have this concept. The prob with big B is the same as with big G, the more people and power the less you consider the individual. I like the idea of many medium and small Bs in competition.

Oh yes, the entire housing market and unemployment crisis are all Obama's fault! Everything was wonderful during Bush's 8 years in office. In fact, we had a surplus, everyone was employed, trade was phenomenal, stocks were soaring, etc etc. But then that Socialist/Muslim from Kenya stole our Presidency and now we're in the dumps. That's right, in 9 months we went to 10% unemployment and entered a complete recession. Oh, wait...I'm thinking like a Republican because I'm just making shit up.

While I am not the biggest fan of the stimulus myself, I still don't understand the utter hypocrisy of "fiscal conservatives" - you're all up in arms about government spending NOW, but where were you when the wars started, which costs BILLIONS every day (we are now up to 900 Billion from both wars) !!! Also, I don't remember hearing anything about the bailout that Bush gave to AIG, so I guess that was OK. If you think the recession is based entirely on the housing crisis, think again.

i know the whole "we're independent" attitude is attractive- we as humans do not like being controlled , however it is necessary to have a government, a middle ground to maintain order and ensure the well-being of the people it democratically represents.
