You're not funny, and if by "He" you mean ANYONE from Marillion (Especially FISH or Rothery), you fail at life.
You won't even back up your argument. Either you're a Hogarth Fan, a Genesis Fan, or an idiot. And I think you're an idiot, because most prog fans can appreciate this even mildly.
I Remember at 15 years old that Peter Gabriel's voice (mostly the same) with that UK accent and asking me if Genesis was caming back from the past? These guys where using the same instruments like some moog synths and that famous taurus pedal bass but... That was Marillion.
Uhm...the guitar and the rhythm section is from the vynil, except the voice. When the bass player was doing the back vocals he wasn't playing the notes. The voice of Fish is live, indeed.
My dear batatacollins , I Agree with you that Mick is not a top drummer, and I think that you are a big fan of Collins, but please, Neil Peart is in another league. You can not mention him in the same category with Phil.
Of course I can't mention Neil in the same league as Phil.. Phil has played with so many bands and Neil has only few projects...Though he's a monster too !!! Greets !!
The dark themes (lots of songs about drugs, war, etc.) are a lot more close to Pink Floyd than you might think. Before you can comment on a band's influences, you have to know and understand EACH of the bands you're comparing. I'm a fan of all 3, but Marillion surpasses both P.F. and Genesis when it comes to musical virtuosity (though Floyd is close).
WouterJ, Genesis was never so dark, emotional, psychotic, or rage-filled as Marillion. You'll be hard-pressed to find a Genesis song with the same messages or as dark as Marillion. Oh & just because you can name all the Genesis musicians doesn't prove your point.
To emphasize the Genesis connection even more. Look for Genesis songs called "Get 'em out by friday", "I know what I like" and the most obvious of them all "Follow you follow me" That guitar line is so obviously taken from that last track. Mind you guys, I am not calling Marrillion a bad band because of them Aping Genesis, not at all, they are a stellar band.
Genesis influences? This band (on this particullar track at least) is a Genesis cover band, the Tony Banks-like keyboard tracks, the Peter Gabriel-like vocals and make up, the Mike Rutherford-like basslines and the Phil Collins-like drums, they nailed the Genesis sound.
My fave song of all time, and I can remember seeing it performed live as if it was yesterday. Marillion are still going strong after 25 years, are independent of the big labels, and have such a following that they can pre-sell enough copies of a new album to cover production costs before recording a note. Very astute business men and briliant musicians
Great band Marillion, saw them in 1983 on the script tour, never played grendel though shame, but glad I saw them great memories of Guildford civic hall and attending college in the city.....
What memories! I think I went to at least half a dozen shows on that tour. If you wanted to hear Grenel you had to be at Hammersmith for the last shows they played it as the 2nd encore. Heady days indeed.
Very nice. This must be the the oldest Marillion vid I have ever seen yet - before their videos. They were such great masters of controlling their sound and presenting insanely consistent acoustic renditions. I could never get into H, and I felt the band became a bit more loose then... In any case, it hurts to see this.
This is great - I've always liked Marillion! Though I'm a bigger Gabriel Era Genesis fan and let's be honest this is a great rip-off of the old masters!! When someone copies you're fave band so well - you can't really complain!
boring? did someone require you to watch this stuff? So, stay away and don't touch the gods of prog, please. listen to wathever you like and don't bother me. Fish 4ever
you are a total knobhead, i've done enough Fish gigs along with Marillion to know what i'm talking about. the world is full of opinions which means i can have mine just as you can have yours...it certainly doesn't mean we have to agree, that is the beauty of debate. or do we all have to follow your line? on 2nd thoughts don't reply cos i can't be arsed reading the rantings of a total bell end.
of course anyone can have his own opinion, i don't need you to agree with mine, and i know that maybe 90 percent of the world thinks you're right. i was only asking you a favor: don't spit on something that for someone means a lot, even if this someone may seem so boring, stupid and knobhead to you. please reply, 'cause i agree with you: it's the beauty of debate. even if you seem to me a little contradictory. forgive me for my ugly english

Siempre será imperdonable el hecho de que Fish expulsara a Pointer y que la banda aceptara cobardemente la salida de su fundador
cesaupal 3 years ago
Fish didn't fired Pointer, it was Pointer that exited out, because he couldn't see Fish.

While my sarcasm should've been apparent, you need to hear Zoltan Csorcz of the Flower Kings, he blows all three of those guys out of the water.
