@pokehacker first of, 8 was the very definition of a grand and epic game as opposed to the short and bland 9 in all honesty. The multiplayer aspect of this game is perhaps good, but multiplayer is not what dragon quest games emphasis on the most, it is the sp that attracts people, and in this game the singel player is simply bad.

@deidarajunior1508 once again the reason people like this game is because of the new steps. its one of the reasons i like it too. sides single player is good in this game. the new objects of the game allow you to try new things and also might i add. the single player in some of the other games wasnt too hot either. in this game after you beat it you can access more areas. in dragon quest 8 you didnt unlock more areas after you beat the game. however i'll concede the monster arena was good.

"Grand and epic" is good and well received but it's not what games are about (I can see how it can narrow people's minds tho; I´ve been through it), games are supposed to be fun over all and the gameplay will forever remain as the most important aspect in a game.

Here comes my opinion: this game had EXTREMELY well carried out gameplay. NOT TO SAY DQVIII was bad.

Yep anyone that played DQ8 and enjoyed it cannot deny it is as good a game as when it first came out. DQ8 will forever be in my books as one of the best RPG games I have ever played in my time of gaming. DQ9 is also really good too its like the DQ version of FF1 protagonist and plot-wise. And it took the DQ8 skill system and mixed it with a job system similar to FF5's job system. Which led to much more character customization in terms of playing style. Yep, DQ8+9 are both awesome.

@CrazyMan03 There are secret Post Game Grottos which have Legacy bosses in them. Every Major boss from every other Dragon Quest game makes an appearence in said grottos.
