Robert is certainly one of the most brilliant harpsichordists around. For me however, he seems to go from one extreme to the other - sometimes playing very machine-like, then playing in other pieces so freely that I can't follow any tempo or rhythm.
However, this recording is superlative beyond belief. An ultimate interpretation that comes to life on the Lautenwerk in a very exceptional way.
I am quite impressed with Robert Hill's talent. Has anyone heard his rendition of Ligeti's "Continuum for Cembalo" ? Compare Mr. Hill's version (glorious, seamless, inspired) with that of A. Vischer...and I believe you'll hear a vast difference. Whether or not you'll agree that R. Hill's performance is brilliant, while Vischer's is viscerally painful, I haven't a clue...but thatt has been my experience. I was stunned by Robert Hill's musicality and technique. I'll post links below...

Simply magnificent, no other words for it.

@shariotoflove Off the top of my head, I can only say mid-1600s. If you find out the exact year, you should post it back here.

To compare Robert Hill's lute-harpsichord playing with that of A.Vischer, see below:
~R. Hill's performance of Ligeti's 'Continuum for Cembalo' : MKm2EqjNI2s
~A.Vischer's performance of Ligeti's 'Continuum for Cembalo' : rksW__R37oc
Naturally, you'll need to add the URL prefix + suffix, in order for links above to work.

Thank you for this brilliant performance of Weckmann's stunning toccata for lute-harpsichord. I love it, and I appreciate it.

Beautiful music, playing and Lautenwerke. Who built it?

Truly amazing!
It's a pity that there exist so few Weckmann recordings. Especially on the lute-harpsichord.
