How refreshing to see musically gifted black American men and women relating to one another as equals without the pimp-ho pathological posturing and posing. Far too many contemporary artists reify and replicate this destructive dynamic in order to compensate for their emotional superficiality and capitalism uber alles mentality. This isn't A capella. This is actual studio recording of them in Motown records. You can hear a light background beat coming from the headphones. If this was A capella than you would be hearing the background voices and everything. This is actual studio recording. Still awesome to hear though.

Marvin became a different artist after Tammi died. He went into a hiatus but when he came back he came back strong! Both died tragic deaths. I heard Tammi collapsed in Marvin's arms onstage. Can't verify it as truth. I like we can hear Motown artist accappello.

anyone else notice the tape edit after the first chorus? on one hand it's incredible that this stuff was mostly recorded as one take....that said, it's nice to know that even marvin gaye had to do a few "punches" here and there

@JonnyDurango It was actually recorded over three sessions- first the instrumentals, then Tammi, then Marvin. Most Motown tunes were recorded this way, as it was a lot cheaper to have the musicians lay down the tracks in a day, and then have the artists do multiple takes.

I saw her story on TVOne's "Unsung" and it was beautiful!! She fought to the end to live. Bless her heart!!! I wish these youngins would take a page out of the old schoolers book and do quality music.
