hahahahaha from 0:57 to 1:07 she like f*** all this its ma groove. marvins like wth? then at 1:08 she glides over.HAHA omg that was funny...made my day
Dang this was a beautiful song even without the music! Music just made more beautiful! RIP Nick Asford! My prayers go out to Val and their 2 daughters and the entire Simpson & Motown family! Nick will surely be missed! Praying for you Val and their 2 daughters!
She has to be standing on something, right?! Reminds me of my bad habit of,when being photographed, stooping sideways and jamming my head in next to other people's, from decades of having my photo taken when lenses didn't get as much of the view in them as they do now - looks damn funny now the photo includes more than just the heads!
It would be wonderful if his and all Motown artist and other highly gifted artist work was in three versions; Full mix,accappella, and instrumental in perfect sound. This is incredible to be able to enjoy your favorite artist and songs like this. This is simply incredible! Thank you so much.
How refreshing to see musically gifted black American men and women relating to one another as equals without the pimp-ho pathological posturing and posing. Far too many contemporary artists reify and replicate this destructive dynamic in order to compensate for their emotional superficiality and capitalism uber alles mentality. We need to reinforce artists who reach for the heavens versus those who wallow in hell (I'm an agnostic, speaking metaphorically).
Lovely, how ever it comes, where ever it comes from and what ever the colour, the track is amazing, and the man was a genius. I was lucky enough to see him in the late 70's. i knew I was lucky, but did'nt realise just how lucky.
This is so awesome! It just goes to show that there were true artists making music once upon a time. Their voices were strong enough to stand on their own, and sound GOOD, without any instrumental accompaniment or that God-forsaken auto tune!
This isn't A capella. This is actual studio recording of them in Motown records. You can hear a light background beat coming from the headphones. If this was A capella than you would be hearing the background voices and everything. This is actual studio recording. Still awesome to hear though.
This is sort of like the one version of the temptations my girl on their CD that was "a cappella" if you turned it high enough you could hear the music in the background very lightly
Marvin became a different artist after Tammi died. He went into a hiatus but when he came back he came back strong! Both died tragic deaths. I heard Tammi collapsed in Marvin's arms onstage. Can't verify it as truth. I like we can hear Motown artist accappello.
anyone else notice the tape edit after the first chorus? on one hand it's incredible that this stuff was mostly recorded as one take....that said, it's nice to know that even marvin gaye had to do a few "punches" here and there
@JonnyDurango It was actually recorded over three sessions- first the instrumentals, then Tammi, then Marvin. Most Motown tunes were recorded this way, as it was a lot cheaper to have the musicians lay down the tracks in a day, and then have the artists do multiple takes.
with all the respect to the singers of today, nothing compares to the real pure beautiful singers then in the 60's, 70's, 80's. what a voice, what beautiful songs. songs of today are smack this, smack that, being all horny, touching myself etcc.. what happened to all the love songs, heartbroken songs, friendship song. today's music is all sexual that really IS a shocking to hear young kids singing sexy songs that we adults know about. A young girl singing to words of Rihanna Rude boy???
Gueveld, you found a rare gem!! Never knew this exsisted!! It's even better without the music!! They have such power and they are SO SINCERE ..... I'm blown away. Today's singers, take notes; there will be a quiz later LOL!!
@lepoetress Yes how can it be that this sounds even better w/out the music, that their voices and spirits are enough to fill that gap? We were robbed by losing these two gifted singers so early but receive the joy again and again when hearing them in their glory.
So true, w2npjwe; we were robbed big time!!! Hearing this makes me wish for those days where music and talent MATTERED!! Nowadays, it's all about the sales, video and in some cases, who can outdo somebody. QUALITY MUSIC NEVER DIES!!!
I saw her story on TVOne's "Unsung" and it was beautiful!! She fought to the end to live. Bless her heart!!! I wish these youngins would take a page out of the old schoolers book and do quality music. Most of the stuff today is ok, but you get tired of hearing everyone talking about "hit and quit" all the time/all through the song.
hahahahaha from 0:57 to 1:07 she like f*** all this its ma groove. marvins like wth? then at 1:08 she glides over.HAHA omg that was funny...made my day

@DanielSchmidt94521 this maybe the studio recording but A capella means music without instruments so technically this is A capella

@DanielSchmidt94521
a cappella |ˌä kəˈpelə|
adjective & adverb
(with reference to choral music) without instrumental accompaniment : [as adj. ] an a cappella Mass | [as adv. ] the trio usually performs a cappella.
• [as adj. ] relating to or concerned with such music : the English a cappella tradition.
ORIGIN Italian, literally ‘in chapel style.’
It's a cappella... Sheeesh...
leesagrrlgrrl 10 months ago
@leesagrrlgrrl
Technically DanielSchmidt is right though. This was done in the studio with a backing track.
I just love hearing all this stuff with it turned down/off though. Check out the Temptation audio tracks without the music. It's awesome too.

it's a shame Tammi died in Marvin's arms on stage. She was such a pretty and great sounding singer

She collapsed in Marvin's arms during their concert in October '67, she didn't die until 2 and a half years later.
