  • Being a chef I think the best advice for an ectomorph is learn to cook and you will learn to LOVE TO EAT! Not just junk like hamburgers, real calorie dense food like stews and chili and pasta salad with good oils and a variety of foods, nuts seeds, steel cut oats, whole roasted chickens, mashed potatoes from scratch whipped with butter and heavy cream, this is the shit you NEED to fill your tank. Not sauted chicken breasts with a side of brown rice and cans of tuna for breakfst lunch and dinn

  • Mannnnn these dudes are kinda right. I started curling 25lb dumbells and benching a max of 130.. 8 months later im curling 55 and benching a max of 205. BUT I LOOK THE SAME! Big dudes don't understand when they see my scrawny ass come over to their set and stack on more weight when they leavin.

  • I know ectomorphs who have gone through basic training and boot camp for the Army and Marines respectively. All of them come out built, and those guys are working all day and eating very little. From my experience, i believe that this is because the body burns so much energy that it goes "oh fuck, we need to build muscle to combat this." and aptly reinforces itself. what might be "overtraining" for normal athletes might be just what the ectomorph metabolism needs to shift into an anabolic mode.

  • For ectos, just eat a lot before, snack during (bananas,apples,gatorade, etc.), and eat after the gym. Calories are king. I would like to note, working out quick can cause you to burn a lot of calories, so take longer breaks between sets (source: Mike O'hearn). Getting in and out of the gym in "45 minutes" does not mean work out very fast. you can do the same workout in one and a half hours if you wanted to.

  • Going into highschool I weighed about 98 pounds. I started wrestling my freshman year and started lifting about 3 times a week the summer going into my junior year. Im now a senior weighing 120 pounds but im ripped and have a better body then a majority of kids at my school. If youre and ectomorph like me it sucks at first but every pound of muscle you put on will be noticeable. Take a preworkout every other day you lift and drink whey protein after workouts. Also drink lots of water daily.

  • went from benching 45 to 135 since aprils 2011 and i only way 115 punds 5 7 is my hieght

    I got to the gym about 4 times a week and since april only have i gained about 5 pounds and there at the gym for 1 to 2 hours. I also have a shit diet cuz im to damn lazy to make me food :/ so if im getting alot stronger but not gaining wight should i take this advice and only go gym 30 min a day? cu i dont think im losing anything

  • if you have enough protein, youll build muscle. the food you eat has calories, and those are what your body uses as energy. if you dont burn the calorie, it stores it as fat. you need a lot of calories so you have energy to burn, but you need protein. as long as you know how to workout, youll build muscle. and just eat a lot. 4 meals a day at least if you want to gain weight fast. if you want to just gain some muscle, you dont need to eat as much, just make sure you get protein + a good workout

  • these guys hit the nail on the head , i worked out for quite a while with no results until i got some advice similer to this , perservered with different meal plans found that about 20000 kj 0r about 5000calories was the sweet spot ,put on about 15kg of lean muscle in 2 years and still going strong , and thats with alot of drinking and weekend long benders that didnt help at all

  • The reason they can't gain weight isn't because of a fast metabolism. The reason they can't gain weight is because they're not eating enough, period. They overestimate the amount of food they're taking in, and they suck at counting calories. If you think you're eating 5000 calories a day and you're not gaining any weight, you're not eating 5000 calories.

  • @dek094 eat more protein (chicken, fish, eggs etc.) and complex carbs (brown rice, whole wheat bread, peanuts etc.) then you body burns. for example, im 6'2, 150lbs. im a skinny mother fucker. if I want to gain weight i need to eat at least 500-1000 calories more then my body usually intakes. so if you're eating around 2000 calories a day... you need to increase your caloric intake by 500, or even 1000 if you can. in a nutshell, keep you calorie count up. but eat healthy.

How do I know this cause I'm an extreme ectomorph. Eat a ton can't gain no weight, but since I started lifting about 3 months ago I have gained a good 15 pounds and have increased my arm size an inch and a half. It's all about getting the most of your lifts and eating right and OFTEN

  • @OneDayInJapan it's your mind thats a hardgainers worst enemy due to lack of motivation and discouragement. stay positive, set alarms every three hours so you dont forget to eat, write everything down like tmw said, and remember rome wasn't made in one day so stay on the right track and the results will come

  • HELP. Hey guys I'm a classic ectomorph and about a year ago i was 5' 9" 125 lbs. I am still around 5' 9" but I have gotten up to 150 lbs. The only problem is i have packed on lean muscle everywhere, but my abs still have a small layer of fat over them. I am confused on what to do because when i used to do ab ripper i noticed my lines became more developed but the fat didn't go away. I'm afraid to work cardio into my workout routine in fear of losing muscle mass. Tips/advice greatly appreciated!

  • @dhub02 It's probably genetics. Some people have more belly fat than others and there's nothing you could really do to change that. I don't have fat anywhere in my body except my belly, but I've accepted it. It is possible to have a good looking body without having abs.

    I have 11.5 inch biceps.. I'm 5'10 and 120lbs -_-... I just started working out tho, already gained 7lbs since New Year, maintaining the exact same bodyfat percentage... I guess out of the 7lbs of weight, 5-6lbs is probably water retention cause I'm loaded up on Creatine... -_- cause these guys say you can only put on 1-2lbs max per month, but I think I'll gain more as I used to never work out and eat like 1500 calories a day.??

  • and your 1st week of weight training find a weight thats comfortable to do 3sets. 2nd week drop the weight abit and on your 2nd set up then on your 3rd go up again. 3rd week you do the same. 4th week start on what you would start on for your 2nd set. trust me you will see results.

  • I definitely started out as a hard gainer, not that it's easy for me now but I can actually see change. I've been going to the gym for around 7 years now and it wasn't until after about year 2 that I started to see change. I agree with the logic of doing quick workouts, but I feel like I was so inactive most of my life I needed to workout hard to basically wake my body up. Diet is a HUGE part, nobody eats as much as they think they do, you really have to pay attention.

  • The people you see work hard in the gym is actually on steroid or some kind of supplement. They help their muscle recuperate faster than normal rate.

  • I workout an hour 3 times a week. I used to be skinny as FUCK, now I've got some respectable size on me and that longer than your recommended 45 mins?!

  • I tell you what your wrong twins. The hard gainer should be working out full body three times a week. One major exercise per body part. Legs, chest, back, shoulders, and abs. No need for arms as they get worked more than enough from chest and back. Then all you need is to eat 500 more calories than your maintence calories and be consistent changing your exercises every three months and you will pack on muscle fast. that my motherfucking guarantee because I was a hardgainer.

    I am 186 centimeters (73,2 inches) and I weigh about 75 kilograms (165 pounds). I'm 19 years old.

    I'm not skinny, I have some fat around my legs, chest, abs. I'm not very muscular, my arms are pretty "skinny". I do get the feeling that I'm having trouble gaining muscle.

    what i do is i try to eat foods that have the amount of calories per serving in then already.

    When i eat vegetables i only add a couple hundred because they don't have a lot of calories, and i don't eat tons of them.

    for everything else i just have the paper at the table and i write them all down

    Halfway through the day i add up all the calories so far and see if, for the rest of the day, i can get in the amount i want

  • I'm an ectomorph and I don't follow the advice they're giving. I work out for an hour per workout. 20 minutes or just a 30 minute workout will not do anything for me, and I go 5 days a week and get pretty great results. I just lift heavy, do four sets per workout and eat a lot of protien and try to get in enough sleep.
