  • gotta say it tho....i love this movie

  • Lol used to scare me too

  • Thank goodness I never saw this movie when I was a kid, but I can understand why peole are scared of this segment.

  • Oh my god this song still scares me. D:

  • Holy smokes; run Dot, run!!!

  • Best bit of the whole movie.

  • They just don't make 'em like this any more.

AND WITH GOOD DAMN REASON! D:<

  • hilarious

  • Yeah, still scary 30 years later. But oh so well done!

  • 0:49

    Haters gonna Hate

  • this song made me wary of going to the bathroom at night for the first 18 years of my life.

  • catchy tune

  • a monster in pokadott p.j's lol

  • i want the mp3 to this where do i find it?

  • Oh God... it still scares me silly to this day. I'm glad I watched this early in the morning, I'll need all day to process this shit! O.O

  • God damn if this segment doesn't scare me 27 years later...

  • this is SO not G-rated. scary, scary stuff. love this movie!!!

  • Scared....cna't tpye

  • This movie used to scare the shit out of me as a kid. Still does a little. lol

  • i love how this used to scare us all as younger kids, and still even freak some of us out today...yet we all still looked for it on youtube :P

  • this is seriously not suitable for children! the roar still freaks me!

  • @stvdahitman74 half bunyip and bunyip???

  • I can't be afraid of anything that's a combination between bunny and mudkip... maybe because i'm a silly americano though.

  • The amount of time i spent trying to remember what this song was called. It gives me shivers when i watch it. This scared me for years

  • ... And the way it always seemed to be coming out of the screen -- right at me --- made me shit bricks.

  • @LittleMissInvisible Several such instances from this song still mess with my head on occasion.

  • This used to scare me so much. Whenever this part of the movie played, I would hide behind the couch, under a thick blanket, and cry. D:

  • Cor blimey Cobber! I almost forgot about Dot and the Kangeroo! As you can probably tell I'm from the UK, I remember this being on a fair bit when I was young. It always reminded me of an aussie version of the water babies, as it had a similar animation look and vibe and what do you know, there are links to that in the side bar! Well..if you can get over a talking kangeroo I suppose anythings possible.

  • FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK. WHY AM I WATCHING THIS...my mum always says "ur grandma was a sick woman, Em." she used to prepare this scene for when you kids visited and she'd sit you on the couch with a hot chocolate, put the tv on and the bunyip song would play...and more times than not, you'd spill the hot chocolate all over you" yup..thats good ol' mim.

  • I cannot help thinking of this song as what a prehistoric Australian tribe of people trying to get their heads around the concept of what probably was the local alpha predator, chasing them every night and savagely mauling and devouring their children whenever it could, and them being of course unable to catch a clear view of the beast they would only naturally regard as a monster or demon.

THAT's what unsettles me the most of this song.

And that said, were giant wombats carnivores?

  • @stalwartarjuna You mean Diprotodon, ptff Na there vegetarion mate, Although they could be dangerous if provoked or startled, and they may have had a little swim in the water so just think of them as the Australian equivalent to hippos or rhinos.

But Thylacoleo was Carnivores, sometimes called Marsupial Lion for it's cat-like build though it was more of a leopard than a lion.

  • Yep, this video scared the crap out of me, then my little brother, and now my children! Must be well-made! LOL

  • ahhhh!!! I had so many nightmares about the bunyip! Still rather freaky, even now!

  • haha there is a place in victoria, australia called bunyip. i am going there next monday and that is all i will be thinking about :P

  • I loved this movie as a kid. I made my daughter watch it (she thinks the Bunyip is silly) and she bawls at the end just I like I always did.

  • I'm 18 and this still creeps me out...

  • who composed it? is the Bunyip a historical carekter or legend

    ?

  • @faridjabba A bunyip is an Aboriginal legend though some sources say that the bunyip is indeed true, supposedly there being a skull of the creature.

  • Scared the hell out of me when I was a kid. So showed it to my son now that he was the same age, figuring in the new age of internet, 3D and such it wouldn't bother him. Nope, scared the shit out of him too.

  • I was more frightened of the air conditioner committing suicide in Brave Little Toaster than I was of this...only really got a bit freaked if there was a thunderstorm soon after..and there is a thunderstorm now...great.

  • I was scared of the Bunyip myself when I saw this years ago at my grandma's house. But, thanks to Charmed and the Internet, I learned a little more about this thing, and the fact that it only lives in Australia, so I'm only a little scared of this. So stop worrying, you guys.

  • @princeoffreaks203 I live in Australia :(

  • @PokeFan10025 Then here's some advice: learn, study, and practice witchcraft, like me, or move to someplace super populated, like a city. If you choose magick, you can keep the Bunyip at bay. If you choose to move to the city, the Bunyip won't follow. Either way, you'll be just fine. Blessed Be.

  • @princeoffreaks203 is it ok being in a quiet place? near Arndale this shop where Coles, and woolies are? I mean like sometimes there some loud cars and barking going on..

  • @PokeFan10025 As long as it's not too quiet. In the scary movies, when the ominous silence is over, that's when the scary stuff happens. If you live in someplace hot, leave the fan on all night.

  • @princeoffreaks203 Im pretty sure the Bunyip wount get me XD btw, where do u live?

  • @PokeFan10025 The Bay Area District of California. But, that doesn't mean we have own share of monsters, demons, and (my personal favoret) ghosts.

  • @PokeFan10025 I mean don't have our own share!

  • I was totally intending to watch this. About four seconds in, I was like FUCK THAT. Too late at night for this shit.

Yoram Gross was apparently the creepiest guy on earth.

  • yup... guess i came here for the same reason.. to see if i was still scared stiff by this song.... still gives me the creeps.... I hated this song so much as a kid cos it was soo scary!!!

  • i ordered 1 bunyip with chips. y hasnt it arrived yet.

Please send the bunyip with chips to my address as soon as possible. thanks.

  • Shit!! I remember cowering when I heard or saw this as a kid

  • I've never seen nor heard of dot and the kangaroo, but now this song is going to be stuck in my head untill I die.

  • It's like a Bunyip survivors meeting here - I must have been too young when I saw this, because it fucked me up.

  • This song used to terrify me. I wasn't scared of anything as a child, except for this. I find it concerning that this was what they used to call children's programming.

  • Not quite Blair witch project but pretty fucking close! Especially when Ur tow or three yes old. Nightmares from nipsucking to yr5

  • wow I thought I was the only one afraid of the bunyip! That use to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid!

  • I also was scared of this song and had nightmares about this song and scene. I loved the animation of the Dreamtime drawings, but the whole mood and the bunyip itself terrified me as kid.

  • that start music- Street Spirit Fade Out by Radiohead, anyone? Anytime I hear that song it reminds me of this, lol

This bunyip genuinely gave me night mares when I was little...still gives me the willies!

  • Can't sleep, bunyip will eat me...Can't sleep, bunyip will eat me...

  • HOLY SHIT! The thing at the end was so fucked up! I always hated that part!

  • This ruined my childhood *sits and rocks in a corner*

  • @FrostedPingu hahahahaha this song scared every child I think

  • Creepiest thing i've ever seen in my life. i watched dot and the kangaroo when i was at my nans house AGES back, and then about 2 years after i went to australia (my dad was in the olympics). We were on the beach and i swear i looked up and saw it, in the sky. I'm scared right now thinking about it.

  • @ScumGoat HOLY SHIT! That is so scary! OMG, Even if you didn't see it the thought of that is like so creepy!

  • @raiindog1 Oh god....where kids could see it? I watched it my freshman year of highschool and that shit seriously made me afraid to go near my rabbit for a week.

  • I was definitely terrified when i was a kid, but still today? No way! You people are silly. Thanks for posting, though.

  • @raiindog1 woah they played watership down on HBO? the actual movie or the little kid's series?

  • OMGG i have never been so happy to be reverted back to childhood terror as i am now

  • This still screas me twenty odd years later............

  • After looking for this for about 25 years since I last saw the movie, and I have no shame in saying this still freaks me out. Not as bad as when I was 6, but this still gives me nightmares, probably should have left it alone instead of refreshing my memory lol.

  • Still gives me goosebumps.

  • Scared me SO bad when I was little.

  • Wonder what animal they used for the roar?

  • I've seriously been dreaming about this scene for years! Decades! Have only remembered fragments. Today I woke up and typed "Australian cave scary animation monster@ into Google Search and found it in about ten mi

  • @MooHaHaOinkHeHe I know, I'm 17 and it still scare's me a little too, it was so scary when I was young, I had nightmares.

  • I cannot even tell you how much this song scared the shit out of me. I was scared of this for Years, literally Years. I had so many nightmares and I will never forget this song because I would run and hide under my blanket and just be like O.O , Even today it still gives me a shiver.

  • @AmazingGalaxy ME TOOOOOOOO! I WAS SO TERRIFIED! This is something that stuck with me for years >.<

  • @69BrittanyJoy I know right!

  • @AmazingGalaxy I'm now 38 years old and seeing this for the first time in 2 decades. And it's still scaring the shit out of me...

  • @7judas77 I know it's horrific. Who knew that such a thing could leave such a huge impact on a person.

  • @AmazingGalaxy lols I saw this when I was three 1993. It scared the crap out of me, so I watched camel boy instead. Toddlers of the early 90's in australia

  • Song messed me up when I was a kid...:(

  • I hated this when I was little, don't mind it now but when I was 5 it scared me.

  • omg I remember this movie. It used to play all the time in Canada when I was little

  • I cried watching the kangaroo run away, the bunyip gave me nightmares

  • this shit used to give me nightmares

  • The song makes it sound so Cartoonish and Childish...But the animation seems its way into a TOOL Music video

  • Hahaha! i use to call my brother the bunyip all the time, he would get soo pissed at me

  • freaky\creepy*

  • When I was young,I sayed too myself "This isnt scary!" until....2:59 I was like "OMG! A werid headed bold---AHHH!!!" gee,When I watch this again the childhood crepperness comes back =.=" gee, thats freakycreppy

  • @PokeFan10025 OMG I agree how scary is it that at that part, It's so freaky!

  • @marioTmaggot same!!

  • so its an australian folk song? cool gotta check into this more.

  • Yah this part scared the crap out of me when I was 5

  • My word I used to get freaked by this as a kid.

  • So you better come home quickly, and you better hide very soon, or the Bunyip's going to get you, in the Bunyip moon.

The Bunyip's always nasty, and the Bunyip's very mean, it's the most unpleasant monster, that you have ever seen.

So you better come home quickly, and you better hide very soon, or the Bunyip's going to get you, in the Bunyip moon...In the moon...In the moon...In the moon...

  • Oh the Bunyip's very bad, and the Bunyip's very bold,

and they tell me that the Bunyip's...now a thousand years old.

So you better come home quickly, and you better hide very soon, or the Bunyip's going to get you, in the Bunyip moon.

The Bunyip's partly animal, the Bunyip's partly bird, the Bunyip makes the strangest sound, that you have ever heard.

  • This song used to scare the life out of me when I was a kid. I now play it to scare other people hahaha!

  • oooh flashback^^ i just remember this... god, i´m old XD

  • This used to scare me so bad as a child, and I'm 16 and still haven't forgot about it!

  • SCARY CHILDISH NIGHTMARE

  • Why the hell did the animators think this was appropriate for young children???? Im 30 and just looked this up and felt instantly uncomfortable deep inside

  • @envy00100 I have no idea, it still don't like seeing it. And I haven't forgotten about it. In all honest the Bunyip still frightens me. This video is just creepy. He's everywhere too. The moon, the fire, the bushes. I just...I don't know what could of made them think this was child appropriate.

  • @AryanBear Probably because it had no blood, profanity, nudity or sex! LOL

  • this part used to scare the crap out'a me when I was a kid!

  • I don't care who you are or how old you are, this scene is freakin' creepy.

  • Does anyone remember the singing of the song "I love the nightlife' by an animated character at the end of this movie?

One of those fuggy childhood memories I'm trying to remember

Also this song was scary as hell when I was a kid

  • Used to scare me as a kid too. Damn bunyips.

  • The thing that scares the daylights out of everyone is that unearthly roar you keep hearing.

  • On second thought I've repressed this memory and now that I have rediscovered it at age 37 I can say with confidence The Bunyip and this song ruined my life. Thanks HBO

  • @jasonlloyd33 Same thing here! I just looked this movie up couldn't recall the name, but the emotions will remain forever. Wow!

  • @35Rocky35 I know, OMG Thank God someone else agrees, it really is scary even looking back at it.

  • On second thought I've repressed this memory and now taht I have rediscovered it at age 37 I can say with confidence The Bunyip and this song ruined my life. Thanks HBO

  • Fuckin' bunyip is no joke!

  • I haven't thought of this movie in several years. That clip just brought it all back. Creepy as hell!

  • I used to watch this move on HBO in the early 1980s when I was around 8 years old. I am 38 now and this part still creeps me out. This always scared the hell out of me and I had nightmares after watching this.

  • @breaksh1t Me too. Its one of those things you only discover years later when you are in therapy. Thanks HBO for screwing up my fragile 8 year old psyche!!! LOL

  • could someone tell me what happens? too scared to watch...

  • this part of the movie creeped me out as a kid

  • Like everyone else here this bit freaked the shit out of me when I saw it as a kid. Haunting piano, a freaky wobbly drawing and an Australian monster with a bizarre name = scarey time.

  • God damn that bunyip

  • I am SO glad that i'm not the only one who this video creeps out. I used to watch this as a kid with my younder sister, and i'd leave the room when this part of the movie came on. It still freaks me out, and i only watched half of it just now...... too creepy :S

  • At the age of 6 my little brother and i saw this on TV, well half of it from behind the sofa.............This is a childhood changing nightmare of a video!

16 years later and i can't believe that scared me!

  • I was terrified of this part when I was younger.

    I still am.

  • Man the memories... Scary shit

  • Comment removed

  • Cool!I love Australian culture! I used to be so scared of the Bunyip!

  • I've never seen this before but its a bit unnerving I admit but if I was a child this would scare the crap out of me

  • Dude, fucking australians.

  • Huh, Bibio sampled this song.

  • I watched this all the time when I was younger and had to turn away and get my mother to fast foward past it. It still creeps me the fuck out.

  • When I was little I saw this and it freaked me out!! I was frightened for months D:

  • This scared the crap out of me as a kid...and even though I hadn't seen it for years the memory of it scared me until I was like..20 lol. Watching it now, it is STILL scary! Who even thought of making this!!

  • I never saw this as a child, but it's terrifying.

  • @mouse264 I'm not sure which is worse, being affected by this toon as a child or later in life. When I thought I was over that possibility, I watched Watership Down for the first time since I was three and was absolutely traumatized. Wouldn't have been so bad if I wasn't 24 years old when that happened ;p

  • When i was a child, this part scaried me soo much!

  • 1:46 420 SMOKE WEED ERRDAY

  • @itsybitsy113 same here, thats why i searched for it, i was hiding behind the sofa when this was on lol

  • i saw this when i was younger - it scared the shit out of me

  • I saw this wonderful movie when I was 8 or 9 and it remained in my heart forever. As I have always been fond of creepy scenes, this was my favourite one in the whole film.

  • @ajbarish Thank you! Its weird all these people saying this was the scene in the movie that scared them. I think it's beautiful. There were a few things in this movie that I thought were scary when I was very little but this scene was never one of them! Lol.

  • I used to be so creeped out by this when I was little! Thinking of it kind of creeps me out now too. But it was only the slow parts, and when they didn't show the actual Bunyip (their silly cartoonization wasn't scary at all xD). The cave paintings and the people were scarier. I used to be scared by hieroglyphs when I was younger too, because I would always think of the mysterious dead people from thousands of years ago who had written them.

  • The bunyip's partly animal,

    and the bunyip's partly bird,

the bunyip makes the strangest sound

  • It's Aboriginal folklore. It makes about as much sense as any other religion.

  • This bit of the film used to literally terrorize me as a child. It's funny how we remember things, because now watching it, I still get chills down my back and it still creeps me out!

  • @AlexB1001 Same here. I saw this once, in Colorado, as a 10 year old, and have never been able to forget the bunyip.

  • Am I fucking high?

  • Best part of the movie! It never scared me, although I thought it was very cool and remember this scene most. I grew up to be a horror movie buff, so no surprise I would like this part best....

  • i remember this too, havent seen this in years.

  • terrified me as child, still creepy now. I love this film and used to have it on video - I can't find it now :(

  • I used to get this song stuck in my head EVERY single time I watched this movie, and then I'd get in trouble for humming it because it scared the crap out of my younger sister. XD

  • if this didn't bother you as a child, then you grew up as hard as a coffin nail. For me? it's something I wish I could disinvent.

  • I always wondered what this film was and now I know, this is the only part I remember because it traumatised me, I am still a bit scared now... :s

  • This scared the CRAP out of me when I was a kid....heck....it's still f**king terrifying!

  • man, i watched some fucked up shit when I was little...

  • This song gave me nightmares as a kid! 30 years later and I STILL can't watch it without getting the creeps.

  • this creeped me out as a kid

  • That use to scare me all the time! ;) kinda still does....

Hey it is a real legend! :P

  • Thanks for sharing this. I never knew exactly what the "Bunyip Moon" he's singing about at the end was, but it still used to scare the flip out of me. Great childhood memory.

  • my family called me "bunyip" as a joke because this scared me so much when i was little. they still call me it now. mean people!

  • man i hated the bunyip who ever made this cartoon should die

  • this bit always use to scare me and my brother

we always had to close our eyes and hide under the blanket

  • Any wikipedia editors here? They don't mention this in the bunyip artical under Bunyips in the media.

  • IS there an AA for Bunyip abuse? This part scared the piss out of me. Wondering when i would ever meet up with the Bunyip agian. Now all i can do is watch this video. I know why it scared me.. The combination of the real footage shots and the cartoon make you think.. Then all of a sudden The Bunyip is looking for you, and you have know Idea what to do, But JUST RUN!!!!!!

  • how do i get an audio clip of this. it would make my cousins dreams come true lol i cant find even a SNIPPIT of this song anywhere online...anyone know...?

  • @flippin41 There's not a specific place you can get it that I know of, but I downloaded something that allows you to YouTube videos to .mp3. It's free and put out by DVDVideosoft. I wouldn't recommend converting this video as there may be one or two other Bunyip clips on YouTube with smoother audio... all though this one could still have the best volume. Not sure.

I also use the (free) and.com downloader that let's you download videos from YouTube and a bunch of other sites to your computer.

  • @mrboombasticx There's a type-o: it's not "and.com"; it's "ant.com" It really works well.
