I never noticed it before, but in thiese extra long cartoons, Popeye's always fighting arabic villains. (Sinbad, Ali Baba, and here he's fighting the sorceror from Aladdin)
@ronin6401 That may have something to do with 'The Thief of Bagdad' remake that was due to be released in the year following this short. Looking back at the times, there seems to have been a huge interest in Western Asian mythology and folklore.
@phantomdude92 That one was a public domain version. I saw it on Netflix. This version was digitally restored to its original colorized format. That's what explains the lack of the usual AAP logo and title cards.
