The reason why it came out like that is because they had already hit the max capacity and kept on picking up more. I own the wet/dry 7.2 volt and it's been working hard for 5 years already so they last if you take care of them.

There's a collection cup with a seal around it that keeps the liquid and dirt inside until you empty before putting the vac away.
