  • Outset Island. :D

  • Is this game still under development knighty?

  • omg, phenomenal! I can only strive to be 10% of you.

  • You made me SO happy by using wind waker music :D Looks awesome

  • I wanna play minecraft on that

  • @SuperCheeseybread Don't we all?

  • PRO!!! i want to attempt to make a XNA C# 3d game sometime soon, only made 2d :(

  • @moth7roop Definately from wind waker.

  • Absolutley wonderful work i would'nt be surprised if you get a job a game developer

  • that look so sweet

  • If you were to compose the music on top of it, then you'd get serious props!

  • owsum stuff bro is there any way you can tell us where do you learned all this stuff or if we want to make level deishgn like somthing this owsum how we are goind to do it ....

  • @7337cod3r It is something that takes time.

  • Maybe a comment about the flyin, I think its game breaking to see trees just fade in out of nowhere. Something to add to the engine would be smooth loading of distant objects. LOS shouldn't be to bring things in to focus, it should fade them in slowly. Another way to think about it, is when you pan left to right, trees don't fade in they slide into view. Not sure of a perfect way to do it. However someone needs to come up with a way.

  • The video is good, and the music awzum :D

  • if i am correct this music is from either the legend of Zelda ocarina of time or wind waker

  • @Mrnachocheese121 definitely not ocarina of time. I've never played wind waker so it might be that

  • Wow. I got here by some strange trail of related videos, and then I noticed the username. I saw your current (Nigh-T) engine in Programming on Facepunch a few weeks ago, and I just have to say that if I could, I would track you down and drive over to your house just to give you a pat on the back. Your work is some of the most inspiring stuff I've ever seen. I've only been programming for 6 months, and seeing what you've accomplished motivated the hell out of me. Keep up the good work.

  • Excellant work! Looks like all it needs is some LOD blending.

  • Zelda Windwaker - Outset Island

  • the music is the song from the legend of zelda the windwaker you can listen to it if you beat the game or just go to outset island

  • its a remake of Kokiri Village song.

  • Code or didn't happen. Kidding - that's really beautiful! Good job!

  • The scene looks beautiful! I love the reflections and lighting.

  • many people make a lot of great tools, but very few make good games

  • @georgebratu Oh but they do, they are just in charge of what they are best at :)

Teams are well over 100 these days and its things like this that make games great

  • @georgebratu If your job is to code the engine or something then your job isnt making the whole game you know ?

  • @Dylantog True, but some people code the entire engine, and since they know their engine inside and out. They could produce some very great games because they can utilize the game engine to it's full potential.

  • about 90% sure that music is from Zelda for those asking.

  • @moth7roop: from the wind waker, its called outset island

  • @moth7roop its from The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker of the Starter island, to be exact (>^.^)>

  • @moth7roop Kokiro Village, if i'm not misstaken.

  • @Tott3LoL No, this is from Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

  • @moth7roop well im 100% sure

  • Can someone help me out here with this quick question? Is XNA a CODE LIBRARY or is it an actual GUI coding tool?

  • @Tyler11440 It's a Code Library that's used in conjunction with Microsoft Visual Studio. You can download a cut-down version of Visual Studio for free called XNA Game Studio, which is Visual Studio Express C# with the XNA Code Library bolted on.

  • music from the legend of zelda wind waker: outset island (another version of the original) ^^ cool

  • This is awesome.

Does it export greyscale heightmaps and texture maps?

  • haha did you edit that zelda song:P Most programmers like zelda

  • 50 years ago, talking on a telephone not attached to a string was a thing of science fiction, now we have telephones where we can actually see the other person. Maybe in 20 more year's we'll be able to transport our bodies into a game, and you, I ask. If that day ever comes, may I kindly live on that majestic island?

  • Beautiful...

  • You're amazing :D i wish i could do that

  • This looks fantastic, i love it :D

  • wind waker sond track

  • What's the music track?

  • @TheRobin1232

yeah, its an open source engine. But I'm not sure how xna works yet.

and i made it in my own custom game engine. I didn't use an already made program

  • haha, i already developed the full computer game. But now I can't seem to figure out how to port it to XNA..

  • Now make gore blood enmis guns oyheeeee 5/5

  • W-O-W F-U-C-K-I-N-G A-M-A-Z-I-N-G o.O

it's right that you need a program to import 3 models into xna? can you please help me which one you used, because i really like it its sooo nice :D

if you can do this i think you must be able to produce to same graphics as CoD MW2 or Battlefield Bc2 or someting :D

  • @MrTeisie You don't need a program to import 3D models into xna. If you know a bit of c#/XNA i can just tell you that the 3D model class name is "Model". You can use it as any content pipeline type (ex. Texture2D). And you can search the web for how to draw the model etc.

  • this is spectacular work i would live there no joke if you know somewhere on the internet that will show me how to make something like this i would worship the ground you walk on

  • dude i totaly need to know what you used to make this your 3D editing program i am having so much trouble getting any of my stuff to work with xna

  • song name??

  • It's from Legend of Zelda Wind waker. The name should be Outset island

  • It's very good. The only thing it's that it's a little dark and it would be very good if the night sky could have stars and a moon.

  • Cool, but the ambient light needs to be higher, the terrain is really dark.

  • I must say, I love the zelda soundtrack too!

  • Magnus, I'm sorry to point you out like this but non point sprite objects do put a heavier load on the GPU.

  • what do you use to make models and textures?

    Just curious. ;o

  • awesome!

and awesome music to :P zelda rocks!

  • Absolutely stunning... that's amazing

  • Strange I had that problem too last week!

I must have reinstall XNA a few times, and then ended up using C# Express with XNA instead of the 2008 full package. =D Worked for me.

  • Your terrain is gorgeous and compelling. 5 stars!

  • Nice going. I've seen plenty people achieve one or two of the effects you've done, but very few put them all together like this and make it work! You're on the right track, and I hope to see this end up being very fruitful! Good luck!

  • dude awesome!

  • Did you do this all by yourself? This is pretty amazing. I've been working with XNA and been very interested in this kind of stuff. Is there anyway I can see your code just to learn from?

  • Bravo! =]

    Excellent terrain you have there.

If possible, Id like lik to use it sometime in the future. :D

  • When people started asking for playable frame rates.

  • Let's see... Right, they are making graphics cards these days. Get one.

  • Aah, I forgot that graphic cards have infinite resources and doesn't require any game optimizations.

    Thanks for reminding me :)

  • You also forgot that not-point sprites don't require a good graphics card at all... Noob.

    So you are welcome.

  • I have to admit I've been sheltered away from Xbox360. But you can make games like this?! wow.

This is good stuff, now I want to see what games real gamers come up with.

    Like the vid.

  • Hells yes! zelda wind waker! Best game in the world that a true masterpiece mood pulled off perfectly and the adventure felt so real! XD

  • thats sick man

  • nice work!! would be a great battlefield for a naruto game :D

  • Very very impressive, looks very natural. I like the look of the dynamic grass. Keep up the good work ;)

  • i see this and all i think of is a zelda xna game... looks awesome by the way!!

  • Zelda wind waker song!! eheheh I Love it!!!!! XD XD XD XD XD

  • sweeet!!!

  • wow that looks amazing :|

  • Ooh, nice one man

  • this does look incredible. Do you plan to release this engine or is it a private project of yours?

I'm especially interested in the sun's animation and lighting.

Also, if you'd also include a moon through night, it'd be awesome.

  • wow just wow... This is sweet :D

If you will release this: do you have any date?

  • wait how do you import the engine and how do you make the engine

  • wow im so incredibly jealous....i must have this its so pretty....so many questions....so do you have a premium membership in the creators club for xna?

  • Best thing i saw for XNA for a long time, I just make games for my Zune, truly amazing, once again nice work. Keep it up!!

  • WINDWAKER!!! :D

  • Nice work.

  • Nice work man. I'm a small developer interested in either licensing this technology for a reasonable fee per year or working on a shared project with you.

I've mostly done 2D work so far, but am an active shader programmer and have worked with meshes and instancing and would love the chance to work with a skilled 3D programmer. I've been programming for fifteen years and am fluent in C++, C#, and HLSL - plus, I'm an actively practicing musician and can give you free music for your demos.

  • Nice engine, however I wonder why most of it is rendered in low lighting, Ive seen people use low lighting many times to hide blemishes.

Did you create the water shader too?

  • dude just a question. do you have to do like a engine for texture and models or graphics and audio. or do you just make one engine for the whole game?

  • aw yes, wind waker. best zelda game ever! better than ocarina of time imo.

  • this looks like blizzard used this to make world of warcraft

  • I dont think he had his engine finished by that time,

    very'awesome terrian engine!

    good job :D

  • this is WIND WAKER nice yo ... can u create a character to go with and story line?

  • LOL ZELDA MUSIC

  • Im working on a game & I have a question is all of this custom or are these presets

  • From which Zelda part is the music?

    btw: awesome engine!

  • Kakoriko forest - Ocarina of time :P

  • Actually, it's from Wind Waker.

  • awesome!

  • Very nicely done, I'm not near to the level your are now!

  • Nice engine, the only thing you need to do is eliminate pop up. It is a terrible problem for vistas.

  • Popping has nothing to do with vista, rather, with tweaking the geomipmapping configuration.

  • so the XNA provides every thing you need to make games? Or do i have to download all kinds of stuff on my xbox to do this (besides xna)

  • dude.... u are my hero - now if only someone would make a zelda fan game with this!

    keep up the great work

  • Nice done, I like the Legend of Zelda music :P

  • pretty realistic

  • it would be nice if he sared it.

  • good job, i like the part with the sun (Bloom Effect) it is b-ea-utiful :D

  • Dude, this kicks ass.

  • Looks really nice, keep the good work up, mate!

  • But that's SO AWSOME :D Beautiful

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!! my favorite Zelda game ever! and awesome terrain!

  • lol dont hate um cuz u cant make games =P

  • How long have you been working on this project, on top of that how long have you been coding and has this code been produced using C# Im learning that at college this year :D, The college is also purchasing my mate and I the XNA DEV kit, plus all the software FREE for us xD

  • All the software needed for developing with XNA is completely free. The only thing that costs is being able to run XNA games on the Xbox 360. Students can get this for free and extra software if you go to Dreamspark[dot]com. However, the free edition won't allow you to submit your game to the XNA Creators website.

  • Any chance I can use this?

If so, where is the code?

  • Best XNA video on YouTube! I love the day/night system.

  • this is damn awesome, keep it on! and is your engine open-source? don't think so, the quality is so great, would use it for my game!

  • awesome

  • Interesting LoD, what method did you use? are the levels dynamic, or simply multiple models(for the terrain)

  • Windwaker music? How do you make trees?

  • omg where can i get this?

  • search gameproject on Google

  • link?

  • what?

  • link to the project for this

  • Oh XD I thought you were talking to me cause everone calls me Link but I cant post links in comments gameproject. com just go there and look for XNA Terrain tool

  • brings me to a place to buy domains...

  • I watched this the 375 time.

  • Genial. Great making. I wanna have this too :)

  • This engine is brilliant... best ive seen so far.

dude, could you release source? and do you have a website/blog etc.

  • looks amazing! it must have taken you ages!

  • Wow Awsum work. inspiring
