  • ONCE AGAIN THIS SHOWS WHAT A GENIUS GARY WAS AND WHY HE WILL ALWAYS BE MY GUITAR HERO AND SADLY MISSED!!!!

  • This video is the answer to those who think Gary was limited to Pentatonics!!!

Just look at his fluency at age of 23!!! how many guitarists could match his technique, sound and fluency those days?

  • @FarhadFirouziProject Actually he was 25 years old back then. But i agree, he is very underrated from a technical point of view.

  • colosseum 2 just leave you in total "awe"!!! the albums they produced have got to be the cream of jazz rock!!!! long may the legend of colosseum 2 live! R.I.P gary moore.

  • io sono nato 14/01/1978 grande gary

  • You have to love it. They sound like Chick Corea's Return to Forever while Bill Connors was a member. Great stuff!

  • good 'ald gary moore,.... jaysus he was some man for one man, if he were 2 he'd be 3...

  • Brings back memories of my grammar school days listening to them on the radio in concert and being stunned by Gary Moore. I dont think he ever equalled the work on these albums !! Brilliant stuff and so inventive.

  • I think that's John Mole on bass ?

  • i was just trying to clean up my old cassette recording of this fm broadcast. i thought i'd check u tube and here it is.. brilliant this.

  • Gary was a guitar god there is talk of a statue in Belfast quite right

  • So epic ...

  • damn damn good!...Gary must have been reveling in his time, so many influences around him, he soaked them up and spatt them out with exuberance and skill that many will dream about, god i will miss this great guitarist!

  • And on a Les Paul...

  • I allways was a big fan of Colosseum I and had the chance to see one of best concerts I ever heard back in 1971. But I did'nt know of Colosseum II at those days, and wouldn't have had no idea of a guitarrist named Gary Moore. This video here shows once more how a fine and furious player Gary was, and what different styles he could play.

  • who are the 7 dwarfs on here ? people short of musical brains !!!!!!!!!!

  • i will never forget the night i was sat in my bedroom (alone as a young teen I might add) listening to John Peel and he played this. My memory is crap but I remember it well, one of those things embossed on a mind. I thought simply wow, and who the hell is that guitar player cos I love him already never mind the rest of them. Obviously Gary is foremost in my mind now but what innovation and only Gary could have pulled it off with his all round abilitiy and style.

  • This was I liked Gary the best for. I mean Colosseum II. The most creative period of him. He was an original talent. I miss him so much!

  • He's was high on cocaine!!

  • @maleusdavo88 ?????????????????????are you sure?

  • @maleusdavo88 ?????????????????????are you sure? You can not accept that he was a great talent.? Right?

  • What a magnificent blend of soul and technique. Thank you for your contributions and inspiration Mr. Moore. We will all miss you!

  • R.I.P GARY

  • Amazing display of rock power!!!

  • Gary Moore tsuitou

  • Very Al Di meola....God bless you Gary!!! RIP

  • Rest In Peace, Gary...

  • gary moore R.I.P!

  • R.I.P. gary!!!!

  • Along with Lizzy, this is my favorite Moore period. Doing what he does best. Flashy, overplaying, but not with the clinical feel of a lot of players at that time. IMO Moore was not a real 'blues' player. He overplayed, too much volume, not subtle.

    Hard rock/Lizzy, hell yeah! Blues....meh...

  • @shatnershairpiece

Totally in agreement. He wasn't ever a finesse merchant, he was always a proper, freakishly good, rock player. And more power to his memory.

  • One of the most ignored artist in contemporary terms - never too old too R&R but much far too young to die - and yes he will be missed - but did he get the recognition, attention and respect that he should have during his lifetime - probably only from other musicians / guitar players and a very small group of listerners / consumers.

the thesis "life is NOT fair" is reflected in the fact that dozens / hundreds of crap artists hit the charts while some diamonds stay hidden in the mud :( R.I.P.

  • Comment removed

  • He made it look and sound as natural as breathing, yet his technique takes my breath away!

  • What a great shame, but he will live forever in his music.

  • RIP Gary

  • Sad to hear of the loss today... he was too young to go now.

This is the stuff I'll always think of when Gary Moore is mentioned: 100mph, in your face, fusion..

  • Sad day it is to hear the passing of Gary Moore aged 58. Pure Genius who will be sadly missed.

  • R.I.P. Gary x

  • not just clever ...but intuitive and spellbinding too

Time hasn't diminished it .... but has sadly caught up with Gary now --- Play On in whatever plane you may be on now

  • R.I.P Gary......

  • Superb clip, thanks for finding this !

  • Gary Moore is on 2 albums only, no?

  • terible

  • balogna

  • my favorite jazz/rock band with Gary Moore!

  • Iv'e got the album. Some very nice moments on it and excellent playing by all concerned. For me they were better in the ensemble sections - the solos didn't quite come off for some reason. As I remember, they arrived at just the wrong time for this kind of music [76/77; the dreaded punk thing had them in its sights.....

  • Great song!

  • I was blown away within the first minute. Al di meola eat your heart out!

  • @ZombieTheChannel - it is quite stupid to compare Gary with Al - they are both top notch performers in the same artistical realm !!

  • @ahab6969

I didn't see zombie's original post - were you guys referring to DiMeola? I love Colosseum, believe me, and half this quartet being gone does not make for a happy day. That said, Moore had acknowledged on a radio interview (KOME's Stonetrek - Bay Area, CA - if memory serves) in the C-Ii days that this track had "Race With the Devil on Spanish Highway" as a major influence, and it is pretty obvious.. Don't mean this is not a killer track on it's own!

  • Gary is god.

  • these played Erics in Liverpool in 1977 the same night Thin Lizzy played at the Empire - some more knowledgable at the time attended both and caught the two bands jamming at Erics - sadly I was ignorant of it all AT THE TIME !!!

  • Gary Moore as I prefer to see him !!

  • Excelent super-band!!!

John Hiseman, Gary Moore, Don Airey, Neil Murray..... that remember!!

  • Jon Hiseman is a superb drummer. The rest of the band ain't too shabby, either ;)

  • managed to get this album on CD. took some looking though - deleted years ago ..... cost a small fortune too.

  • Brilliant!!

  • this is pure fusion/rock jazz in its best

  • someon can tell me where i can find this theme and on wich album or CD?

  • This is on their third and last album from 77, War Dance.

  • also try electric savage there was a japanesse import under gary moore which has this and other c-2 gems

  • wah!! esta baina esta tesisima!!! ke cosa tan genial!!! ke chimba!!!

  • it is the first time that i have seen it... what it is? can it be a psychodelic rock?... it sounds great...

  • I was blown away when I first heard this piece in 1978. It's the best piece they ever did - Incredible. Deep and very fast moving. They fit more into the this track than most fit onto a whole album! Changes throughout. If this had been released in another era (i.e. not punk) it would have blown everything else way! Incredible.

  • lol moore with his brain may wings on cool

  • Holy.Crap. Gary Moore can seriously do it ALL! :O

  • WOW!

  • Awesome!!!!

  • John Mole on bass.

Gary can do it all. he is only 25 here.

  • it's okay, but the original colosseum is sooooo much better. colosseum with farlow, clempson, hiseman, hackstell-smith, hiseman, clarke and greenslade is the best.

    colosseum for ever

  • Gary doesn't get enough credit for the chameleon he is....Beck, DiMeola, Clapton....he's all that and so much more....

  • Fusion !!!

  • Id say RatScabies is a JonHiseman fan..The big white double bass kit,..And the styles of both are not far apart..Quality

  • i want to learn the bass line....BUT I JUST CANT!!!:((

  • hiseman, one of my favourite and funkiest drummers ever!

  • @humanvynil

All of them are great. Who plays the bass by the way?

  • @SevenCircles

Chap Called John Mole - sadly no longer of this earth!

  • Great technique aside, I always loved Gary Moore for his soulfulness, you can really see that he puts his heart into every note. I still have the original 3 vinyl LPs from this group and as soon as they were available I got them on CD and they are still on my mp3 player... Two other great bands of the same era I'd recommend, if you're not familiar with them already, are Camel from England and Focus from Holland.

  • apart from the bit about mp3, which I don't have,I could have written all this myself.

Great to see Gary as a youngster playing with this band after listening to them for the last15 years on vinyl and disc. Obviously this musical genre was not lining Garys pocket enough.

  • Gary Moore, a forgotten hero.

  • Not forgotten by me, I can tell you!

  • Jazz/Fusion at it's best. Colosseum II is the best fusion band there is.

  • DRUMDRUMDRUMDRUMDRUMDRUMDRUM

  • gary moore is an amazing guitarplayer!look this was 1978. Now you know why gar was a very big inspiration for rhandy rhodes etc.

  • Tripe it is not. GARY MOORE = GOD.

  • Ahh well...Back in those days every single concert was great and legendary in its way. Now you're lucky if Deep Purple come to your home country...

  • GARY MOORE É O CARA!!!EXELENTE RARE

  • shut up, fag

  • All music is self indulgent - the trick is to induldge in something that the audience enjoys aswell as the musicians - and I enjoyed this - I think I might get a bit bored after 2 hours of it but I have the attention span of a newt.

  • amewome band - Gary at his best but Don Airy on keys needs a mention too!

    Thanks for posting this.

  • John Mole, R.I.P.

  • John Mole was a legend. he was my second cousin. always lived to the fullest.

  • Excellent. Reminds me of Mahavishnu Orchestra & Chick Corea´s Return to forever. Gary is a very talented fusion guitarist. Terrific chops for those days.

  • Was this video from Rock Goes To College by BBC? I would love to get a DVD of this concert. Great playing by all band members, saw them live at Canterbury Univ in 70's when gary had just left Skid Row, he played alone on stage for 15 minutes everything from Bach to Blues and back again thro a worn out (wrecked) Marshall 50, and no effects. Amazing stuff Thanks for the posting.

  • this is music!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh yeah! Fuck me, I didn't think of that one.

  • his playing is great here but i prefer later stuff, from Gary

  • so is my wife!!

  • love gary ,but he's a man with many faces

  • fantastic!! i very much prefer CII to CI-- it´s funny to watch gary moore posing in that rock´n´roll-manner to this complex music :-)

  • i've seen them in 75 in Roma with murray on bass, great show

  • Incredible!

  • darn this is awesome! simply awesome

    gary moore rocks

  • i saw this band way way back in the 70's at a place called ivanhoes in Huddersfiled (uk) and went back stage, I comented on garys batterd looking les paul and almost fell through the floor when he just picked it up and handed it to me, then told me who gave it to him!

A moment I'll never forget that for sure.

  • great

  • i dont think there tight enough 8-)

    obvious joke amazing band

  • these dudes rule.

  • nice song but the keyboards are too quiet. it would have definately sounded far better if keyboads had been louder.

  • Some parts of this remind me of Journey's "Kohoutek." some parts remind me of Mahavishnu's "Birds of Fire." Finally, some parts are Casino era DiMeola-like. Very ripping piece with interesting progressions.

  • But I don't much care for that old school bass tone.

  • Hey Pat, how's it going?

  • way before dimeola

  • This is from '78. DiMeola goes back further. Look it up.

  • good point, souds like Tou de Force...

  • amazing

  • if you want top notch jazz rock fusion, get Brand X anytime

  • Give us more fusion Gary!

  • Gary Moore does it again!

  • Stunning playing, a real treat to see. Surely one of the best prog songs ever written?

PS If anyone knows a keyboard player like that who's looking for a band, send them my way!

  • Has anyone got a video of CII performing War Dance? (in my opinion the best track they did together)GM carried on with the Jazz Rock stuff on Back on the Streets with only Simon Phillips replacing Hiseman on the drums. I believe there was a fall out between Hiseman & Moore on musical direction that caused CII to split. Hiseman can be heard on most of his missus stuff - Barbara Thompson.

  • Fantastic! Thanks for the upload.

  • Wow this brings back memories...Where was this filmed? Never thought I'd be able to find something like that on YouTube, thanks!!

  • I loved Colosseum from the start but never heard this great track. Gary's from my home town and I never realised that he could play acoustic like Al Di Meola. He is so versatile and should play more jazz rock. Thanks for posting this

  • what a great vid ! Thanks for posting

    I love this band !

    I want more!

  • Thanks for posting this. One of my favorite bands. I can't believe this footage is out here!

  • Saw this bunch play at Loughborough town hall in 1976. They were magnificent.

  • Wish there was more of Gary Moore around this period. Love this jazz/rock stuff.

  • I dunno, watching the Great Hiseman play the drums here looks like hes babysitting some spaccy, egotistical pretty stupid looking short arsed kids or something.

  • Ha ha! you funny. But right and not far off the mark. think he made Gary behave himself gave him some discipline.

  • Well, it was in this band he learnt to play in his own style, and yet, Thin Lizzy afterwards,

it's a big difference in music style, but not in talent....

  • :o OMG ... I am getting the shivers, I so much love this band.

  • Awesome tune. If you like this then i think you will like the songs 'Alien Chase on Arabian Desert' (from the album Splendido Hotel) and 'Egyptian Danza' (from the album Casino). Both by Al Di Meola. Hope you enjoy...

  • More wonderful stuff that I'd never expect to see. Many thanks for posting it :-).

  • This is new to me, but it's very nice indeed. Thanks!

  • I am nearly 47 yeats old now and I saw this 1977/78 tour in germany and it was fantastic!

  • Fantastic!

    Please post more...

Note Jon Hiseman's huge fibre glass Arbiter Autotune drum kit, too - a real blast from the past and it sounds fantastic :-)

  • This is the period where Gary developed his alternate picking style to keep up with Don Airey. This was when he was at his best. I have all 3 albus. Shame they didn't make more. Gary still plays this tune as a solo piece in his set today. They also made a few appearances on the Old Grey Whistle test. Does anyone have the footage. Please ,please post it on here if you have. There are bands around today that cant touch this and this is nearly 30 years old now!!

  • post more of this thanks.

  • Thanks for post great stuff.!!

  • THANK YOU!!! Yes, please post more songs form this show - we are very grateful to see this rare stuff! x

  • BADASS !!!

  • Colosseum II is the best rock-fusion band that I have listened! It's a shame that there´s no too much videos from them! Thanks nhkgfile!!!

  • Gary Moore playing like John McLaughlin, tremendous!!Great tune as well. Reminds me of Chick Corea´s band Return To Forever. I wish Gary Moore would play more of this kind of jazz rock stuff. I saw Colosseum II in 1976. I didn´t even know who Gary Moore was. He would have been about 23 at the time. Excellent band, great concert.

  • It certainly does sounds like Chick Corea´s band Return To Forever, more specifically their tune "Beyond the Seventh Galaxy".

  • Great! Thanks for posting this!!!

  • Brilliant! I remember the shows from around this time were explosive! Where was this from?

  • ¡Thanks for sharing!

  • wow!

  • Fantastic, thank you for posting. Please post the rest of the concert if you get a chance!

  • Toka78 (2 weeks ago)

    >Fantastic, thank you for posting. Please post the rest >of the concert if you get a chance!

God yes, someone please post the rest.

  • Thanks so very much for this clip. I've liked this song for a long time but never thought I'd see a video of it being played. Don Airey really gets around: Colosseum, Ozzy, Deep Purple and many more.
