I also served in Vietnam. My reasons were the result of the stories of WWII and my own curiousity about war. I didn't know enough about politics to support or not support anything. The Americans after Vietnam were seen as beatable and weak. The American people today are often refered to as cowards who will never fight a long war, and can be attacked. Go to any jihadist YT vidios and they will often refer to our defeat in Vietnam in thier comments. We cannot afford to lose in Iraq.
The US did not invade Vietnam, The country was divided by the UN in 1955. The North after supporting the Viet communists in the south later "invaded the south" by sending its army to south vietnam. So I guess you were talking about the North Vietnamese and not the Americans, who were asked by the south for support to help fight the communists.

in the Platoon (movie) you can see a nazi flag (with wasticka) on a tank, and i think those things in vietnam are used for fun or relics or some kind of luck-amulets.

You might consider hating the war rather than the warrior who is often an 18 year old who is making the best moral judgments he can with the info he has. I also served in Vietnam. My reasons were the result of the stories of WWII and my own curiousity about war. I didn't know enough about politics to support or not support anything. The Americans after Vietnam were seen as beatable and weak. The American people today are often refered to as cowards who will never fight a long war, and can be attacked. Go to any jihadist YT vidios and they will often refer to our defeat in Vietnam in thier comments. We cannot afford to lose in Iraq.

The US did not invade Vietnam, The country was divided by the UN in 1955. The North after supporting the Viet communists in the south later "invaded the south" by sending its army to south vietnam. So I guess you were talking about the North Vietnamese and not the Americans, who were asked by the south for support to help fight the communists.

Diem was down on Bhudists. ARVNs were good enough soldiers, sometimes they were magnificent. They had leadership problems at field grade level and above. And lots of politicians running bullshit games. I thought I was fighting for the Vietnamese and I thought they were worth it.
