I'm not going to lie, this is cool and I applaud your work. However, I don't really see this relating to cellular automata, at least not directly. Just my thoughts.
Thanks! Each layer of paint represents one step in the cellular automata. Since it starts small and gets larger that means that the center bulges out because it has more layers stacked on top of each other. It's a bit hard to tell because the video is not broken up into the cellular automata steps, and it's not viewed from overhead. You can run the simulation in something like "golly game of life" the rule is 3 neighbors = new cell, 0,1,2,3,4 survive, 5+ die
