Healthcare reform is not as terrible as it seems, other than it is one more way to give the government power and control over us. If anyone on the left even knows what a monopoly is (and I don't mean the game) this is exactly what it will be. When there is something wrong with the country I believe that when over 70% of the people disagree with something like Healthcare Reform, those in congress who disagree should be over 70%.

Socialism and Fascism both have totalitarian tendencies, its just that fascism allows private corps as long as they obey, and socialism takes collective ownership of the corps, and they obey. Not exactly a world of difference. Its important to separate in your mind political freedom and economic freedom. Political freedom is possible in a State without economic freedom. Economic freedom also possible in a politically un-free State.

And you're right that both extremes actually seem to require a totalitarian regime, and that while they're opposites, the end result of a totalitarian state is remarkably similar. In the end AH put a gun in his mouth & Krupp counted his $5B, so who really ran the show?

People equate fascism with conservatism because fascists still had private corps. Fascism, Communism, Socialism all have totalitarian aspects. You think right and left is determined by either private ownership of corporations, or govt ownership. Maybe so, but that means if you believe in the concept of private corporations , you are a fascist.

About the SC -- Rbts, Alto, Scla & Tms are RW authoritarians. They vote +govt/-indiv, +corp/-indiv & +corp/-govt. Kndy isn't lib but the original Mil Com courts so violated UCMJ & Geneva he couldn't go along.

Kennedy's not a lib. The 4 SC Rt wngrs are authoritarians, always siding with the powerful against the individual, & Kennedy often goes along, as in the recent "Citizens United" case where these 5 decided corporations can now buy our elections. However. the Military Commissions as originally set up were so outside of the Constitution & legal precedent that even he wouldn't go along with them, tho the 4 authoritarian types had no problems doing so.

SC justice Kennedy (not a lib). We were on the SC... Alito, Roberts, Thomas & Scalia are all right-wing authoritarians -- anything that screws the little guy in favor of the rich and powerful gets their vote, Constitution be damned. Kennedy is the swing vote -- he's happy to vote with the 4 authoritarians to screw the little guy if the Constitution gives him enough room, as in the "Citizens United" case, The case you ref'd, though, about the Mltry Comms, was too outside the Const for even him!

You're right, in theory. In the real world, however, Scalia, Thomas, Alito & Roberts vote consistently to favor corporations over the government, & the government over the individual -- in other words, they're authoritarians, & they side with the rich & powerful. The new "Citizens United" case is a perfect example. Now corporations, even foreign ones with a domestic front, can spend unlimited cash on American elections. Is there an SC decision more favorable to the wealthy and powerful?
