Technically agnostics ARE atheists. Not many agree with this though because they think atheism is the belief there are no no deities.

I am an atheist. I understand that. I did not say that BuddhISTS were agnostic, I said that BuddhISM is agnostic; in the same way that music theory is agnostic.
Thus it IS atheist and proselytizes cause and effect, but does not actually proselytize atheism. As far as Buddhism is concerned you can be a Buddhist AND Jewish, the same way you can be a violinist and Jewish.
In fact I believe that most Buddhists today still profess Buddhism and one or more OTHER religions.
