im a bjj guy but come on people this aint bjj vs judo there total differnt rules and sports. in judo, judo is better in bjj bjj is better. learn both and your be a total fighter
@mmathailand THERE'S NO JUDO BLACK BELT THAT'S NUMBER 1, NUMBER 2 THAT'S NOT LATIN AMERICA, THAT'S THAILAND, 3 JUDO IS THE FATHER OF BJJ SO TAKE IT EASY!!!
Did judo for 6 years, but couldn't take the injuries from some of the throws(i'm old!) went to BJJ and loved it. Two different arts yet so similar. Cut all this crap about which one is better, its totally down to the individual. Green belts beat black belts in the same discipline all the time!! Just because you have the knowledge doesn't stop you getting beaten by lesser belt who is stronger!!
The same could be said of backstreet dojo's in brazil fella. This debate about which stylke is better is utter crap. Both are great and anyone with a braincell trains in both and just gets on with it instead of yapping which is best.
@vrata78: White Belt Tournament. Colors are so they can identify fighters because all wearing white gi. Sometimes they do this or one fighter wears a colored ankle wrap.
Makes sense because the judoka is so used to winning by throws that he didnt put into account his throw would result in the guy taking his back when i switched to bjj i did that all the time i had to break my way of thinking when it came to throws , the first original throws in judo are the best to use in bjj because they dont land you in a bad postion . Its better to train together and eliminate the bad habits of both by learning the best techniques .
A throw won't land you into a bad position if done correctly. If he messes up on a throw.. he shouldn't have forgotten that the match wasn't over and he needed to defend the hooks.
How many times does this have to be explained. BJJ Tournament for BJJ White Belts. Judo Black Belt enters. Wins first match. Loses 2nd match. Berneung is a World Champion Muay Thai fighter training BJJ for less than 1 year. The Judo guy isn't wearing a Black Belt because this isn't a Judo tournament. The tournament promoters used different colored belts to ID fighters because they were all wearing white Gi's.
@CorpusChristiKid this match didnt prove anything really except that the level of judo in thailand is terrible and that black belt has a very poor ground game. The bjj white belt would have to be a great athlete to be elite level in thai so hes going to be great at any combat sport.
so many fucken dumbasses out there that say bjj is better than judo... LOL! If they love bjj so much they would know it originated from judo and the only real difference is bjj spends more time on the ground and judo spends more time on standing since they are so similar u cant really say whos better it comes down to the practioner
@MrChickenFajita but judo people would spend all there time on the ground if the ref didn't stand them up up every 10 seconds. And you are only allowed to choke and do elbow joint locks in judo. They have outlawed to much stuff in judo so if they are not practising how to finsh people and not just pin them or throw them the art will suffer
A really good Judo player would not go to the ground with a BJJ player. He would just finish the fight with an Ippon throw rather than try for a submission.
id love to see you try do one of those throws against someone who is good at BJJ, ive sparred with tons of Judoka and I have never been slammed hard before.
CLEARLY BJJ IS FAR BETTER THAN JUDO!!!! BJJ COULD DESTROY TE WRLD IF IT ANTED TO BUT THE GRACIES HAVE NEVER SHOWN THE WORLD THE SCRET WORLD KILLING MOVE!!!...... aww come on! where are the bjj vs. everything debates? they're the best!!....... no?........ OK sorry.......
@bknyblazedout kimura was the youngest ever 5th dan black belt, so he's an exception, not the rule. in addition, that match was 60 years ago when bjj was in its infancy, when only a small number of people used it - since then the sport has evolved. so ur example isnt great...
back in kimura's day judo=jujutsu now half the moves that kimura used to defeat Heilio have been taken out of judo to "make it safe." judo is considered a sport, the real fighting art is traditional jujutsu- Kimura's fighting style is a lot closer to Jujutsu than Judo- if u watch his fight against Helio u will see him use a lot of moves that aren't taught in Judo these days. kimura is also much bigger and stronger than Helio.
Because they have very simular moves 422, the only thing is judo strategies are focused around throws more so then submissions, where as bjj is vice versa. as for Dooivid, bjj you could hyper extend someones joints to the point of breaking but so could you with the practice of judo, you don't learn the throws you do in judo in bjj. a simple hip throw can cause peralisis if done on the street. id much rather end the fight with a hip throw or leg sweap rather then taking it to the ground
Why did he stay on his stomach??

judo guy:
- perhaps overconfident in beginning - breaks grip after getting it -- gives up advantage.
- could've escaped the RNC -- see Bernueng crossing his feet.

one question i didnt ask b4, if the judo guy is a blackbelt then why is he wearing a white belt?
MrChickenFajita 2 years ago
Fighter ID for points.
mmathailand 2 years ago 3
cos it's a bjj dojo, although he's a judo bb, he's considered a white belt in bjj...and that's the belt he should wear.
Owdbum289 2 years ago 2
please tell me the BJJ White belt got some sort of promotion for tapping a Judo Black belt.
CorpusChristiKid 2 years ago
No, not yet, he still has some mat time left and techniques to learn.
mmathailand 2 years ago
For sub'ing a Judo Black Belt, he couldn't even get a promotion to Blue Belt? That gym must be Eddie Bravo level in BJJ.
CorpusChristiKid 2 years ago
He was 1-1 against Judo BB in tourney, and Judo is not BJJ. Certainly shows good on his record.

No, The Muay Thai / Bjj White belt beat the Judo black belt.

Actually, they had 2 matches. Judo won first match and BJJ won 2nd by submission

What's with the green/yellow belt? It looks like a gummy worm.

To identify each fighter for points. Not ranking.

can u please tell me in judo compititions do they still get the person into arm locks or just scoring points by a throw?
ozzieruss01 2 years ago 6
its late but yes they use armlocks, they also use chockes as well, thats if u dont get an ippon, which means they land on their back

Tell that to Kimura who broke Helio Gracies arm look it up it comes down to the practitioner of the art not the style itself.
bknyblazedout 2 years ago 59
@bknyblazedout Kimura was a newaza specialist. It's very very rare to find Judoka who are as knowledgeable or talented on the ground as Kimura was.
Most blackbelt Judoka who enter BJJ tournaments, enter at the blue belt level.
