But the most embarasing thing was when he sang in fron of the president just standing there, no dancing at all, and doing playback, also one time he did playback while sitting on a chair. How unprofessional is that? And before you avoid my questions with "if you don't like him why are you here"... I like some of his songs, but I think playback is an insult to the audience.

In the later years Michael did suffer with voice issues, which forced him to lipsync in concert (quite heavily at times), but for tv appearances he usually opted to lipsync for the reason I gave above showmanship and entertainment. For instance, his 1988 Grammy performance where he lip synced "The Way You Make Me Feel" and most of "Man In The Mirror", but did do those OUTSTANDING adlibs at the end of MITM.

@Ludichris8531 People also have to realise that the pitch m.j sings at can be tough on the throat on long tours......it seemed to me he lip synched more to the end of a tour....and most singers find their voice going when they are touring. Plus M.J put on 3 hour concerts.....u will find very few artists of his caliber doing that for their fans!

In TII for this song, he even had the dancers fawning over him in the audience. Im not talking about his age but the style of the rehearsals. The big, obvious differences.

@Archiesquaddy Of course I see the differences.Michael always wanted to reinvent himself, he didn't want to do the same things over and over again, so it makes sense that TII was going to be different than his other tours...especially given the technology nowadays. I think it would have been revolutionary. That's what I think Michael wanted. However, if you're one of those that think it was all a conspiracy to kill Michael, I cannot agree, nor disagree because I guess we'll never know for sure.

Mike is giving maybe 10% in this rehearsel. He is even to lazy to do the moonwalk properly, but the vocals are good. Only the chorus is weaker than in studio, its probably not easy to sing this while dancing.

MJ did the entire Bad Tour live, and a doctor told him his voice was at risk of permanent damage if he continued to do tours like that. The Dangerous and HIStory tours he lip synched a lot, but I think everyone can agree he made up for it by dancing his ass off. Everyone knows he can sing live, (my god, watch TWWMMF grammy performance) but he was saving his voice.

@azzorzer Sort of like playing music while he's singing to it. While saying no play back means the instruments (drums, guitar, bass, etc) is really playing without playing the cd/cassette. For example, if you are playing your cd and sing at same time. That's playback, if you let people play guitar, drums, etc without playing cd then that's not playback.
