  • this is a very low level application of the art, no sense of center, telegraphing movements, no connection to the technique

  • repasando lo olvidado para ver si regreso a karate, pero esta vez no solo, sino con mi ñaño

  • thank u so much

  • true... kata's are build from the basic for us to develope everything... from proper stances... posture... and skills... yes... this may look like easy but it's not... if you learn the bonkai of this kata... i'll bet... you will be amazed....

  • Good!

  • Gotta learn this kata ;)

  • Este esta bueno pero... Hace mal la secuencia :)

  • @Raybart00

Depende del estilo de karate que este practicando

Yo practico Shitoryu y esta kata se le conoce como Heian Nidan y en esencia es practicamente la misma, lo unico que cambia son algunos uke

  • i always messed up doing chudan shuto uke. it's really difficult.

  • That´s really difficult. I must know it :D

  • 7/10

  • ye i do shotokan karate and the order of katas are kion kata

    heian shodan

    heian needan

    heian sandan

    heian yondan

    heian godan

    tekeshodan

    vasadie

and i dont know the rest

  • depends on witch style karate for shotokan this is the first kata

  • @hytby it's the second. the first is taikyoku shodan.

  • Important is which Ryu are you doing! If its Shotokan Ryu then this kata is first. The second is Heian Nidan ....

If you did some another kata before this one, I think that you´re doing another Ryu than Shotokan ;)

  • yeah thats good kata this is the 2nd kata the first is tikichodan

  • This IS heian shodan

  • In my school this is the first kata which you learn...Then heian shodan...

  • did you mean neidan? :)

  • I got orange belt but ive quit and started now again i gotta know all katas back

  • the first kata which got me to 9thkyu was kihon kata and the 8th kyu for me is now this kata, heian shodan

  • i was learning this the other day and its the orange belt kata if you want a red belt so its the 2nd kata you learn

  • really?

i learned this as a whitebelt.

and i perfected it and i had advanced to yellow belt.

  • nice video indeed

  • ese es heian nidan wey

  • ummm heian shodan is the 1st kata u learn its white blet kata 2nd 1 is heian nidan which is wat im currently doing and im moving on 2 heian sandan which is orange belt kata

  • thank you , the video help me to learn Heian Shodan.

  • thanks for the Video

  • lol we did this in class today.. it was cool!

  • Cool Video!!

  • Does anyone acctually know how to do Karate in this!

  • First Yellow,Blue,Green,AdvanceGreen,Purple,AdavancePurple,Brown,Lose all your strips,Wait 2 years,Then your a black belt

  • Doesn't seems too difficult looking it

    from outside...

  • It really doesn't look like it takes much effort. This is the second kata you need to learn in shotokan karate. It is one of the basics. The first kata you must learn is Taikyoku Shodan , or the first cause. These katas are really not that easy. They build form which contributes to later techniques. Drills like these are also very important for balance. Masters can practice the "peaceful mind" kata for years on end and still find room for improvement

  • i cnt agree with u more all these people are learning this kata first we have 4 kata's be4 heian shodan and im glad it was the 5th kata i learned becuase it relle helps focusing on power and ur shutos and the back stances so yeah the kata im working on now is heian yonda and i luv it favorite one so far

  • Really... OMG I am learning this one as my first kata. Do you know of a link or something that I can take a look at for all the katas before Heian Shodan? Thnx

  • lol i didn't even know there were katas before this one, this was my first too.

  • @KIllermonkeycrazyman actuallly this is the first kata..not tryin to be rude by the way..my master is of the 7th generation of this style

  • @Skittles2Go

It varies, some choose to have Taikyoku Shodan as a white belt kata- to get them use to the concept then either grade them depending on their performance of that or introduce them to Heian Shodan. There is no strict order of the Katas only meer guidelines.

  • @KataForYou I trained under the guidance of Enoeda Sensei in the KUGB in the 1980s and for white belt kata we did "Kihon". It's basically Heian Shodan without the age ukes and shuto ukes in kokutsu dachi, i.e. all gedan barais and oi zukis. Still trying to get it right today!

  • @KataForYou dude white belt kata for yeallow belt is heianshodan, Taikyoku Shodan is for litle kids to get an intermedian belt like white and yeallow belt

  • i think you was wrong there is 3 katas before heian shodan (taikyoku shodan, taikyoku nidan , taikyoku sandan)

  • @SuperDiabloman1 It might be right in your dojo, but not his.

  • @KIllermonkeycrazyman

indeed, kata's are also very important for focus

  • hvite and white with yellow stripes??

  • thanks for the video, this is a great kata.

  • What's after Heian Godan?

  • Comment removed

  • Bassai

  • BatistaBabe17, after Heian Godan you start learning Tekki Shodan, which in old times was (together with Heian Yondan and Heian Godan) exam Kata for Green Belt (3rd Kyu). After that, you start studying Bassai Dai, then Jion and usually you're supposed to stay with those Kata and strive to improve on them until you earn Sho Dan. Then you go on to Enpi, Kanku Dai, Hangetsu and so on...

  • Ele colocou o shotouque na base errada.

  • definately heian shodan i know. i'm learning ut rught know

  • grazie mille!!..questi video mi hanno aiutato ad imparare i kata....(TRANSLATION FROM ITALIAN..THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! THESE VIDEOS HELP ME TO LEARN KATA...)

  • Spero che tu i kata li impari meglio di sto tizio... perchè io gli toglierei la cintura nera e gli metterei quella gialla, a dir tanto, per come fa sto kata.

  • hello there

i do shotokan karate and ive just started and im going for my red tags on the 28th and just in case ive learned both the heain shodan and the kion kata but what one do you actually do cos im kinda confused

  • if you are grading for 9 kyu then the kata you do is kihon. don't get confused by belt colour as some shotokan karate clubs have orange belts for 9 kyu and some have red for the same grade.

  • haha well thanks for the advice but im even more confused now cos my senei told me to learn the heian shodan with the blue background (this vid) and he has told me im going for my 10th kyu... my friend is 9th kyu (orange belt) and he had to do the kihon kata... ill just need to question my sensei next time i see him but its scary having to question him =P

  • Kihon kata is the white belt grading. I didnt know in shotokan you had tags... I just went straight from the white to the orange.

  • yes this is shotokan karate.....heian shodan is the kata to advance to yellow belt....the next kata is heian needan

  • btw is this shotokan karate, must be

  • sry i meant the last move its maby kokutzudashi or something...

  • huh.. what a high Zenkutsu dachi

  • You post the same comment for the other Sensei's Heian Shodan kata. Do you even know what Zenkutsu Dachi is? This video is for beginners and he is doing fine showing the basic steps to white belts.

  • this video is for a training and is old form to do this kata

  • by the way , your stopping at every step !

Its meant to be continuois ! , and your shoto is wrong !

  • Wow,I didn't know if I should laugh or cry when I read your comment.

  • Lol yeah well there you have it ^^ People like him, pretending to know is just..pathetic. If you don't know, well don't answer :P

  • His kata looks exelante I dont know what your talking about. Kata can be performed in different was!!!

  • It wasn't about the performer perse..my comment was a reply to another guys comment..he said the kata looked wrong and I said that he should shut up :)

  • yeah okay then i agree with you

  • IT's more for getting the basics ingrained in to a student. Not for actual street combat.

"32 years in the Martial Arts"

  • Not really good.The feet.

  • Its not for street defense dummy its for physical exercise and basic defense movements.

  • If anyone is interested in that - in AKS (American Karate System) this Kata is called Shodan (Tiger 1).

Lookup Wikipedia for "Kata" to see what it is meant for, I'm too lazy to explain that.

  • Oh, and I have a suspiscion (based upon numerous hints, not just random inclination) that this is kanaza sensei (head of SKI I think) and some slight discrepencies in the footwork may have to do with the fact that he's in his mid seventies.

    I could be wrong though.

  • its not the kata that will save your life. its what the kata teaches you that will save your life.

  • @shoulung

absolutely right, tha kata is the "theory" of self defence, the bunkay is the "aplication" of kata movements in real battle.

  • I've just started doing karate and I think its called a kata, I'm sure will be used for when your doing stances and its good excerise if keep doing it fast.

my sensie is teaching free style karate, pretty sure all karate places do that though : P

  • well, first of all he'd be knocked over for not keeping his feet on the ground, but the technique is good, and he looks where he's going.. there's no flow, but this would be good for beginners to study (except for the feet..)

  • kata (i'm pretty sure) is for practicing a specific technique(s). When confronted, your not actually going to do those moves in that order.

  • he's lifting his feet a lot

  • is it normal to get this kata on white belt?

btw:this was good help for me to do it.

  • what do u mean by GET this kata. I'm a ninth kyu (white belt black tip - novice) and this is the only kata i've been taught. It's the first hence SHODAN. Heian Niidan is next.

  • the kata have slight differnce between a chool and another nicely done

  • k, he's a black belt, so i may be wrong, but his footwork...hes feet shud stay on the floor, shouldnt they?...or is that just for while youre still a lower belt?

  • Perfect move.

  • it' not the shito ryu heian shodan

  • this is shotokan i do shito ryu and theres only like one differnce in this one

  • le premier des 5 Heian

    the first of 5 Heian

  • This is Heian Shodan...den hab ich bei der Prüfung bewältigt*stolz*

es is aber nich ganz so schwer, wie es aussieht!;-)

  • No...this is HEIAN Shodan not TAIKYOKU

Taikyoku has the same "I" pattern but it only has downward blocks and lunge punches

  • this is heian shodan it looks like Taikyoku shodan and they are similar but in taikyoku no age uke or the last part you dont change your dachi

  • this is heian shodan~i take karate classes myself. it's just like taikyoku shodan, except the hammer fist and the 4 knife-hand blocks.

  • What a shame, I did not see the real Japanese spirit and the neat steps of a high graded in the art. How come?

  • How can u expect him to show that when he can't even do a perfect Japanese bow? :|

  • I see nothing wrong with his bow; it looks alright to me, but i'm just a shodan black belt.

  • Learn how to spell PLEASE!!!

    Taikyoku

    Kanku Dai

    Bassai Dai

    Oh yeah.

There are only 3 Taikyoku Katas

    Not 6

Whoever showed you the other 3 made them up

    Rogodan????

    RoKUdan

  • Read Karatedo Kyohan, by Gichin Funakoshi. He mentions the 'other 3' by name, but few schools perform them...of course, few adult classes perform the taikyokus at all...I know my school teaches them to our youth classes, and they are never required testing for any of our adult kyu ranks...

  • Spelling!

  • i like tis kata cuz is really easy when u know what to do. its what u need in order to get yellow belt....cool 8 weeks left and i'll have it.

  • You shouldn't like a kata because it's easy, you should like it for the burst of energy it gives you: that feeling of spirit. I did this kata for my orange belt, and good luck with your yellow belt.

  • lol, my sister did this kata for her testing.

  • This is heian shodan heian nidan begins with the box arms and the first kata is the keon kata for all belts it is the easiest kata there is but also very similar to the heian shodan this is not a hard kata at all if you think that then you need to train alot more in karate because if you think this is hard wait till you get to the other katas

  • Extremely helpful thank you

  • thsi is heian shodan for orange belts and above its not the first kata because the first kata is the keon kata and anywun hoo trully loves karate like me wood no that heian shodan is the second and stands for peacful mind level 1 heian nidan is the next kata wich stands for peaceful mindlevel 2 as the katas move up they get more difficult as you cood probably notis that heidan nidan is more difficult than heian shodan

  • This guy is right.

  • ez még a kegkönnyebb:P

  • relax. This kata is (for some reason) called Heian Nidan in some clubs/associations, and Heian Shodan in others. A bit stupid to mock others for lack of knowledge befor testing the facts...

And by the way: If you are honest with yourself and really put your efforts into doing this kata perfectly, you'll se it isn't so easy after all. No fancy techniqus to hide behind...

  • This is the most easy kata!

  • all allyuh clow this is the heian shodan d first kata it is shaped in an I go and research or shut to heck up if u eh kno nothing

  • this is Pean Nedan :S not Shodan

  • Pinan Nidan. Some schools call it Pinan Shodan (mine included), others call it Pinan Nidan, but there's no use in debating the name, just execute it, perfect it, and call it RockmylilWorld Shodan if ya want. :-D

  • it is shodan it is if you want to get a yellow belt duhh i should know my Sensaie won natitionals on the namerican team and i am about to test for a yellow belt

  • cool that is awsome who thout it was nidan what a dummy

  • no, it's shodan not nidan. you start with a downward block in the first kata.

  • That's Nidan not Shodan.

  • it's shodan! I'm actually learning it, I know!

  • First Kata, Best Kata, and perfected by every blackbelt :) also my favorite

  • arnt all heian kata's suppose to start in neko-dachi? and if i remember correctly from my teachings this is heian nidan

  • In heian nidan you start with a "square block", I think.

  • Everyone's a bloody keyboard-warrior expert. Kata are for each person to master personally, everyone's body is different and everyone will move slightly differently- there is no single one perfect form for any move. Understand it, perform it as well as you possibly can and get what satisfaction you can out of it, end of story.

  • yeah and it helps to learn moves for real battles... nothing else to add ^^

  • The Hammer Fist Is Used In The Bunkai (I Think)

If You Combine The Lunge Punch With It It Sort Of Looks Like The Hammer Fist Is A Prelude To It

  • As apposed to making each move stiff and individual...try combining the hammer-fist and the lunge punch. My Shihan teaches it that way..looks way more effective.

  • In my books i see it writted as Ei-an shodan, but the movements are the same

  • Heian Shodan
