I have a half brother to Hansel. American Quail, whose a son of Woodman and Graceful Darby. I love watching Hansel and Hawk Wing run. ArchArchArch should be fine, thank goodness.
that was clearly the jockey error,he kept stg way too far back, stg rally from dead last at half mile left, no wonder why he was the favorite, but good run by hansel
He lost by a nose. Clearly the horse was bearing down, but I doubt a nose shows the horse had any real "jockey error" that counted. Plus I never heard anyone really talking about Antley making mistakes, despite all the adulation handed STG. Good run from him for sure, but the truth is that Hansel was bleeding down the stretch - that's a better excuse than "jockey error".
r u for real, STG was kept way too far off the pace in a fast belmont pace, knowing that Hansel is a good horse, he should have kept STG in the middle at least not last.
I loved Hansel as well. I wish someone would find and post a video of the Preakness race. I haven't seen a clip of that race since it ran and it is one of my favorite races to this day.

Oh lord. Great race by two great horses. People just can't seem to appreciate that.

Did Tom Durkin call this race, and when did Tom Durkin first call races from New York?

Yeah, he replaced Marshall Cassidy begining with the 1990 Belmont Fall meeting.

:46/3 for the first half mile and Hansel never had a breather. The fact that STG couldn't catch him shows how much better a horse Hansel was.

Hansel wasn't on the lead. he was in a great spot. Strike the Gold was wide and in a 12 furlong race you're gonna pay for losing ground.

I LOVE Hansel - so much better than the over-adulated STG (another bunch of fawning for a Derby winner).
Look how he wins this - he staves off STG despite BLEEDING down the stretch!

You start bleeding from your nose (lungs) and you tell me how well you run an 1/8 mi! Bleeding beats "bad jockeying" every time.

Hansel didn't bleed. They made a big deal out of it because he was racing without Lasix for the first time.
But I don't see any source online that says he actually bled.
