I'm actually so impressed because Cantonese is actually soooooo complicated lol

I am studying in Canada now and I was trying to teach my Mexican roommate some basic Cantonese which piss him off so much, he even told me it took an hour for him to write only one Chinese character :D

but btw 潛水 Chim Seui doesn't fully mean your best friend has a girlfriend and he doesn't care about you anymore, you are half right. It means someone suddenly disappear.

Was chatting about this to some of my students today and they told me that 潛水 was the act of underwater diving or diving deeper into water you are already in, not actually diving into water from above which they told me to be 跳水 (jump into water) OR 插水 (dive into water).

Any clarification of this? I'm not going to take a bunch of 9/10 year olds' advice (even if they are local Hong Kong students).

The usage of 潛水 is usually pejorative, for example, somebody owes another person something but could return it, so he decided to 潛水. Also, due to the characteristics of the internet, it is easy to hide yourself from other people on the net, so it gets easier to get out of loans.

You might want to talk about 膠, which is a common term in cantonese ;)
