В ролике (Скорость загрузки Windows в VirtualBox на Linux (kubuntu 11.04)) четко видно, что Linux победил Windows по всем параметрам. Хотя если из винды выкинуть все лишнее и по разумному переписать дрова, то она будет хорошей платформой для игр (или скупым подобием на Linux). Вот только если игры и вправду перейдут на Sony PlayStation и Xbox то нафиг такая без идейная ОС нужна.

linux isnt bad, but i wouldnt go saying Bill lost, if Bill Gates lost then everyone would use linux, also, even though your computer is older, mine boots in like :30, flat, with rainmeter, ventrillo, my playlist, and wow ready to go, 20 when i just have windows boot with rainmeter

The comparison is not quite right!

There you have many Windows programs are started.

(Task bar) making the whole thing slowly.

Linux can see something heavy, which has started to programs.

If both systems have the same programs, then the comparison defend properly.

if I have a slow portable pc (1.43 gb RAM, 1.6 ghz) would it be better installing linux instead of windows xp?

It depends. There's no ultimate answer. If you're looking just for performance in web browsing and using OS native apps, Linux is your choice. You know what, give it a try. You can install Ubuntu to your XP, just like a normal program, and then uninstall it without  consequences.

I have a porblem: every time I try to start up linux mint from the hard drive my pc shuts itself down! I also could not itnstall it from my bios and had to install it from the os (windows xp) and now I have two operating systems how do I fix this? I get an error when I try to boot from the cd (after the linux mint logo come up) bad "kernel image"

Finally Windows always gets slow with the time, Everybody said windows is easy to use but if You really want to get a good performance and experience need to clean in the regedit old keys, disable programs on start up, use antivirus to prevent giving format all the time :P. I use windows only to play , to work I use ubuntu :D

No not fake. Linux has always been known for fast boot times. Reason: it only boots what it needs or what you tell it to load at startup. Other reason Widnows uses a registry. Linux simply uses files. linux simply boots faster by design.

Yeah as i read these comments I think that you really do need to do some more configuring, as my boot up times are very fast either with Xp or Fedora Core 8. Even with my old Athlon my Kubuntu 8.04 boots faster than that, I think that you need a bit more learning to do there buddy.

If you would put the same time you've spent on installing and configuring your Linux install in your Windows XP install, Windows would boot faster. Just try a Tiny XP or XP Performance release for example, you probably don't even know about its existence, do you?

Next time do a fair fight, make someone who KNOWS how to finetune and tweak Windows install the Windows XP bootup for you, because obviously you're shit at it.

make install is right, you have way too many apps loading on the start of XP, that's a personal user error of why it took so long. To be completely honest, that's the most logon apps ive ever seen someone have, it's a bit sad. You should take care of that if you still use the XP OS

This isnt fair, as on windows there is a lot more to load up on startup that linux, and the modified boot screen just makes it worst, but i still favour linux :)

The logon screen on Windows took ~49 seconds on kubuntu also took ~49 seconds.

The real problem was logging in and getting a desktop. You are starting a bunch of apps during login on XP and not as many on Kubuntu.

A test like this is not saying much about the OS's but more about configuration. Both the boot up and the login times can be reduced by disabling services and turning off Apps that are not needed during login.

Od ty doby co znam lady Vronkovou uz Linux nechci ani videt :-) btw me XP nabihaj asi 45 vterin na pravekym PIII 800mhz...ono staci jen cas od casu provest vycisteni registru, defragmentaci disku a odinstalovat nepotrebnej balast...ja osobne Linux k nicemu nepotrebuju, ale chapu tve nadseni :-) jelikoz Linux je free
